Another thing I don’t understand is why jw’s think there doctrine is accurate just because they are the only ones that teach it.

Mormons are the only ones teaching with the book of mormon
but that don’t mean they have the truth.

you are acurate if you teach the same thing the apostles taught. But jw’s think just being different makes them right.

That is why you see them calling there place of worship kingdomhalls…just to be different.

I don’t understand how some people think.

Please calm down, excaliber. I think I know what you have in mind. For all things you mentioned about the truthfullness the JW claim, those things are supposed to be their problem to defend, are they not? So, why don’t we wait and see what kind of things they want to post in this forum, and what they say for that. Allow any offensive language they may use, because offense is their best defense, am I correct?

I already know what they would say…because I was born and raised jw.

And I like being on offense…LOL

Excaliber:

I was an active Witness for over 40 years. I don’t understand how Witnesses think, either. But I’ve stopped trying to understand them.

We have 2,000 years worth of Catholic history, theology, and catechesis to study.

As long as you obsess about “outing” them or punishing them, you are letting them have an effect on your life. Don’t let your resentment over the way you were treated by the JW organization continue to give them power.

Give it to Jesus. Turn loose of the old anger and resentment so you can embrace your new-found faith with peace and love.

I have lost many years that I cannot recover due to the way I was raised. But I WILL NOT give the Watchtower any more of my life, not one more minute!

Peace to you, my brother,

Ruth

Ruth,

I have to so - such wonderful advice you have given to our dear friend, excaliber.

I would imagine it would be difficult to do, but wise nonetheless.

It is difficult, but necessary. 🙂

And a “Here, Here!” for Ruth. Very nice.

Ruth you get my post of the month award because that was great.
You are correct to.

The problem is that while I agree with you…its realy realy realy hard. And I am not sure I Know how.

Great posts, but Ruth…that was truly lovely.

Excalibur…I had no idea what your history is w/ the JW’s.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((excalibur))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Pray and pray and pray some more.
Trust God with all your heart and lean not upon your own understanding 😉

I want to forget I was ever a jw…I wish there was a pill to make you forget.
But half my family is in that cult.

And I think like a jw.

what should I do besides prayer?
Each day try to do something that a jw would not do?

I try not to think about it…but trying not to think about it makes me think about it…LoL

So far the watchtower has failed in making predictions. But there is one more that must be looked at.

The battle of armegedon was to be finished during the generation of 1914. It is now 2008.
Has this failed? Remember the slogan was “millions now living will never die” so millions of JW’S living during 1914 would see armegedon.

Are there still millions of JW’S that were adults or even teens during 1914? Even if there were in the next 5 to 10 years they would be gone?

My question is will watchtower continue to survive if the 1914 prediction fails?
It’s the new math! Just as William Miller, head of the Milerite movement, 100% contrary to scripture, predicted Christ’s return first in 1843, then 1844, the JWs will re-calculate as they have done before. They will also rewrite the bible again, if need be. It would appear that the corporation has a responsibility to the “stockholders”.

The peace of the Real Christ be with you.

Dear Excalibur,

You can read books written by Scott Hahn perhaps. His book is not so hard to read, but you are still required to open your brain to follow his logic. Hahn’s book is not a novel, that all you have to do is read and read. His books require you to think. When you can refreshed your way of thinking, then of course you can come back to the bible. The Jerusalem Bible or any Catholic bible will be good, and not the one they translated. Please pray before you open your bible. One more thing, don’t forget to enter this forum, and have discussions with us, as often as you like.

Dude, you OK? :o
Too late if you wanted to start with him…

I completely understand it all. I would encourage him to take it to prayer, as souls are saved one at a time. But, since we live in the kingdom of the evil one, which church would he oppose, both from within and without? Which church will have to withstand relentless attacks from evil all round? Which church will be maligned, and all manner of calumny uttered against her? Why, the One True Church, of course. Satan does not waste time attacking the irrelevant. He goes right for the throat of truth. Attention my non-Catholic brothers and sisters: We’d better hang together as the world encircles us. Time is drawing near.

No, no. I really was wondering / hoping he was / is OK. I know the frustration and hurt that comes from leaving the JW’s first hand. It’s a tough row to hoe.

yea they probably will just change the predictions again.
what stockholders are you talking about though?

I have some books, but I have to get back in the habit of reading.
This is why I stoped…
at bethel we had morning worship at 700 am then we started work at
800 to 500.

Well I would try to get up early to study my text for morning worship.

Then after work at 500. I would go straight to the library to read and study, I had to keep up with ALL watchtowers and awakes…and read the year book…and prepare to cunduct the bookstudy on wednesday, and prepare all school parts for the minestry school…because people would not show up for there parts and I wanted to be able to substitute for them. And I had to prepare for my bible students…and fit my personal bible study in some how.

So I would fall asleep in the library
…or literaly watch the sun go down because I was studying so long.
My congregation was an hour away and the bethelites car pooled to save money, so we could not leave to head back to bethel untill everyone was done with there jobs so needless to say on meeting nights I did not even have a day. Not to mention I wanted to study a foreign language.
( sorry I will get to the point)

The point of all this is when Bethel started throwing us out on the street, to save money and make room. And I found out they tamperd with the bible. I COULD not read religious materials period. I did not trust bibles anymore…and reading religious stuff would make me think of bethel. So I have not been able to read much for a year now. I am out of the habit.

what stockholders are you talking about though?
Well, since WTBTS is a corporation, it answers to those who hold stock in it. I would place the faithful in the position of stockholders in the Watchtower corporation, and they have to be satisfied and kept in the company somehow. So, my guess is that the company will change with the times as failed prophecies turn up. If not, they always have the threat of shunning.

Christ’s peace.

Dear excaliber,

Hahn’s books are not mainly religious books. I would consider it an an exercise of our logic. Therefore, I did not suggest you to read the bible at the first time. You need to dislodge whatever stuff they put into your brain. By the way, one more suggestion left. Come to this forum as often as possible, and have discussions. I am interested to talk to you more, especially exchanging experiences between us. Being in the eastern country in the eastern part of the world, lead me to lack of knowledge of Christian denominations in the real world.

Something a JW wouldn’t do… donate blood to save a life! 😃 Have you done that yet? I heard from ex-JWs that that feels so liberating!

Besides prayer… have you been able to contact a priest to do a private RCIA? I never found out if you called around and what the answer was.

What about volunteering for a Catholic ministry/organization? Have you tried praying the Rosary? What about listening to EWTN radio?

Have you celebrated a birthday yet? Are you still going to Mass? I don’t know how your family would react, but what about Ash Wednesday. I don’t think you have to be baptized to receive it, it’s not a Sacrament. Have you gone to the events a nearby parish offers? What about joining a bible study group at your local parish? That way you can finally read the Bible the way you’re supposed to.

There are sooooo many things you could do (and again I say, I wish DH were in your shoes…). Anywho, I hope some of the things I mentioned here help you out.

I’ve been talking with Excaliber for almost a year now both on here and on Catholic Community Forums, and if I recall correctly, the first time Excaliber ever set foot in a Catholic Church for Mass was Ash Wednesday… he was quite confused, as I recall… 😛
