I’ve been talking with Excaliber for almost a year now both on here and on Catholic Community Forums, and if I recall correctly, the first time Excaliber ever set foot in a Catholic Church for Mass was Ash Wednesday… he was quite confused, as I recall… 😛
Oh, poor guy! :o 😛

Something a JW wouldn’t do… donate blood to save a life! 😃 Have you done that yet? I heard from ex-JWs that that feels so liberating!

Besides prayer… have you been able to contact a priest to do a private RCIA? I never found out if you called around and what the answer was.

What about volunteering for a Catholic ministry/organization? Have you tried praying the Rosary? What about listening to EWTN radio?

Have you celebrated a birthday yet? Are you still going to Mass? I don’t know how your family would react, but what about Ash Wednesday. I don’t think you have to be baptized to receive it, it’s not a Sacrament. Have you gone to the events a nearby parish offers? What about joining a bible study group at your local parish? That way you can finally read the Bible the way you’re supposed to.

There are sooooo many things you could do (and again I say, I wish DH were in your shoes…). Anywho, I hope some of the things I mentioned here help you out.
Im probably not gona donate blood…I don’t like needles…LOL.

I have started a private rcia and its going great!

I don’t know what the ewtn radio station is?

And I am trying to join a catholic social group…because I don’t know many catholics.

you have a good idea about bible study groups…I will try to join one of them next.

Im probably not gona donate blood…I don’t like needles…LOL. This is funny because I do too and I’ve donated twice almost to faint after they take the needle out… hehe and I’m also taking a medical class and you should see my arms, I look like a druggie :o

I have started a private rcia and its going great!

That is great!!! I’m so proud of you!!!
I don’t know what the ewtn radio station is?

Where do you live? Depends on your location, but you can even listen to it online (I don’t have the website but I’m sure we can find it right away either here or by googling it)
And I am trying to join a catholic social group…because I don’t know many catholics.
Good! Once you join, you’ll find that you see them everywhere! For example, once I asked here if Mexicans were the only ones who put a rosary on their rear-view mirror in their cars (since I am Mexican and I do this), and here I found out it’s basically an all Catholic thing. Since then, I notice rosaries on so many cars in the streets, freeways, parking lots… I never knew there were so many non-latino Catholics!

you have a good idea about bible study groups…I will try to join one of them next.
But make sure you find out what kind of study it is. I joined one called “Scripture Study” and it was: read 4 books of the Bible and come back to the next class to give your own opinion. That wasn’t what I was looking for (I was looking for something like the JW bible study… back then I was studying to please DH 🤷 ), so I got out of the class and found a catechist institute where we learn the catechism, the bible, and famous writings by popes, such as Dei Verbum. I love the class. It’s a 2 yr class, and I have 4 months left of it 😦

I was realy confused!!!
I remember walking up to a priest
with a bowl in his hand, he asked me if I would be faithful to the gospel. So I said yea, then he reached his hand down in the bowl and pulled out some dirt and tried to touch me with it…I was like YIKES!!! But before I could get away he smeard it right on my head.

How is that for your first mass?

Wow when you give blood it leaves needle marks on your arms! I don’t want people to think Im on drugs, mabey I shouldn’t donate blood for that reason…LOL thanks for the excuse.

Its cool you take medical classes, I was in the medical department for a while at bethel.

I live in Ohio, can I get ewtn radio here?

Thanks for the warning about bible study…but it sounds like you realy
enjoy the catechist institute, If you want you can share what you learn with me. Because I know the Jw interpretation of the bible, but I would love to know the catholic interpretation.

That is the most blessed first mass I have ever heard of. It was the shock treatment that brought you home. The Lord knew that subtlety would not awaken (sorry!) you from your slumber. It took a jolt.

Christ’s peace.

JWism has to be the most intellectually ridiculous religion ever, it is not even coherent. Atheists can accuse us of spinning webs of beautiful nonsense, but at least what we say is internally coherent. JWism is neither and to be honest I don’t think any kind of reasoning will get people out of it.

Ask at a local Catholic bookstore, or at your parish. Someone will have the frequency of an affiliate station. I haven’t tried this, but the EWTN website may have a list of affiliates and their cities.

Hey guys I realy need some help with fadeing. I think x-jw’s know what I am gtalking about.

I want to leave watchtower without being df’d…because this would cut me off from relatives who I could convert.

I have heard of people who are inactive and just get forgoten about…dose anyone know how to do that??

Stop going to meetings, that’s all. But I think that the CC will ask you to write a letter to the WT telling them you don’t want to be a JW any more (or so I heard), but I could be wrong.

DH hasn’t really attended the meetings since May last yr, and people still talk to him when they see him at his sister’s house or when he goes to a meeting. He’s made it to 3-5 meetings since May.

So, if you do go to the meetings, stop going gradually until you never show up. They’ll still talk to you that way if you were to run into any of them.

That is a good Idea!!!

what about just going when the C.O. is there like once every six months…I thought about there memorial once a year.

I don’t get it? why dose your dh not convert? Has he posted here on the boards? We could help then.

Dose your dh try to get you to go to meetings to?

Dh still goes to the memorial but since May he hasn’t even gone to one assembly 😃 . He won’t convert since he’s actually a born and sort of raised Catholic. He was baptized as a baby and did his first communion and confirmation when he was 8 (but only because his dad made him). By then, his mother had already converted to JWism and was taking her kids there behind her husband’s back. 🤷 Dh only knows the lies the WT teaches about the CC. I’ve tried showing him the CC isn’t as they think it is. Maybe one day he will revert but it would be more like converting since he knows NOTHING really.

I wish he’d show interest in returning to the CC. He baptized as a JW when he was 19, he’s now 24. But was df’d for marrying me (a Catholic) and has been inactive ever since he was reinstated. While he was df’d, I used to attend all meetings and assemblies with him, I studied the bible and the “What Does the Bible Really Teach” book, I even joined their ministry school, even had a part in the school (I get goosebumps thinking about it), but the entire time I felt sooooo guilty (heck, the entire congregation thought I was going to get baptized).

I knew it was all man made and knew about the false prophecies of the end of the world, and knew the CC is the real Church, but still went, until one day I had a dream of a priest telling me I needed to go to Mass, and since then, I only went to the meeting when he was reinstated and once after that. I cried so much that day. People came up to me asking if I was happy DH was a JW again, and to their surprise I said “No, I’m not. I’m actually sad, but I’m happy for him because that’s what he wants”. They were astonished at my words. I will never forget that day. 😛

So, back to you… you could go when the C.O. goes, it’s all up to you, but let me warn you, you’ll feel sooooo guilty and will think “I can’t believe they actually believe all this bs”. The last time I went to an assembly and to the memorial last yr, ugh, I had to keep my mind thinking of something else, it was torture listening to all the lies they teach. I was so bored, and angry that DH can be so smart, yet so… so JW.🤷

Oh, and no, DH has never posted on the forum. I wish, but he tries not to do things against the WT (but he does celebrate bdays with my family, he celebrates thanksgiving, new yr’s and Christmas, oh and valentines too 😃 with me). One day, I know one day he’ll begin to show interest. The only person that will try and make sure it doesn’t happen is his oldest sister who lives near us. She’s miss super JW. She loves her JW friends more than her own family. Can you believe she talked smack about their mom when the mom went back to the Church??? Talk about good Christians!

WOW I can’t believe you were in the school…you are a GREAT ACTOR! You deserve an oscar nomination for that.

How much dose your DH know about how watchtower treated us bethelites?
If he dose not believe I was at bethel…trust me I can prove it, I could practically give him a tour of bethel.

Tossing a bunch of bethelites on the street would be hard for watchtower to cover up…virtualy imposible.

If he is an organization man…like I was, I would love to know what he thinks about that…I mean I can give him names…heck…I can go there with him and point the people out if he wants.

Aren’t I? 😃 They totally bought it, they so thought they had me. They were so surprised when I told them I was never convinced and that I knew the Catholic Church is the True Church.

I doubt he knows. He’s never been, and I don’t think he knows anyone who’s gone to Bethel.

I don’t know if he’s ready for something like that, I mean, I bought him Franz’s book “Crisis Of Conscience” but he won’t read it. At least he reads my Catholic Bible with me and went to a Catholic marriage retreat and meetings with me (with a priest and all).

The people I know who were JWs and became Catholic did not have to have any contact with the WT about it. JW baptism is not accepted by the Church, so there is no need for any XJW to contact their former congregation in order to become Catholic. To quote what my pastor told me: “It’s none of their business”.

Pax,

Ruth

Sounds like you went for the home run with crisis of conscience. I read it…but that’s before I knew who Ray Franz was.
How about some scot han books…or mabey watching journey home together?

LOL if you read Crises of Conscience and continue being Jw…there is something wrong with you…LOL

That was a real good move to get that book.

Its hard for men to leave jw’s because its such a mans religion…men are used to do everything, and if he likes giving talks and carrying mic’s and stuff, he could realy WANT jw’s to be correct.

But you would be living proof to him that the Catholic Church canot
be as bad as jw’s make it sound.

It was serving at bethel that opened my eyes, I am not sure what would do it for your DH.

Dose he like history…it was one of my favorite subjects! If he dose you got 2000 years of it to work with! How about reading the early church fathers? If he likes history the way I do…then you have a huge advantage over watchtower.

Dear Excalibur,

You can read books written by Scott Hahn perhaps. His book is not so hard to read, but you are still required to open your brain to follow his logic. Hahn’s book is not a novel, that all you have to do is read and read. His books require you to think. When you can refreshed your way of thinking, then of course you can come back to the bible. The Jerusalem Bible or any Catholic bible will be good, and not the one they translated. Please pray before you open your bible. One more thing, don’t forget to enter this forum, and have discussions with us, as often as you like.
Even better, get a CD/DVD of Scott Hahn. He makes things so clear and it hits you like a ton of bricks. I’ve heard him speak previously, and he is awesome.👍

Where would I get a hold of those? Would my local catholic bookstore have dvd’s?
