I was hardly berating anyone. The capitalization of the word “read” was in response to the capitalization of the word “wrong.” No harm, no foul. I hate to think you lost sleep over this, JustAnotherThou! 😉

No lost sleep, just a thought about it 🙂

Like I said, I don’t take things like that personally, no matter how hard we try, every now and then our posts are going to sound wrong to someone else 😉

Honestly - try Lane Bryant. I can’t wear their clothes because they are all cut too large for me, but their bras are wonderful! Very well made too. And if you get on their email list they will periodically have a buy one get one free sale which is fantastic!!

I would, as the bra you linked to earlier in the thread looks just like my favorite bra at half the price  , but the smallest band size they sell is a 36. I wear a 30E (very small ribcage). 32DD if I’m lucky and the band runs small. Von Maur is the only store I’ve found that consistently sells 32DD and NO brick-and-mortar stores sell 30E. Those are online-stores only. 😦

I’m feeling you there! I’ve found one store that had my size in stock and it is 4 hours from my house. Unfortunately my ‘professional fitting’ was professionally wrong and I paid $70 for a bra I had to alter to fit correctly. I’ve gone to all the links everyone has listed but if anyone knows of places that carry 38J or K please let me know. I find bigger cups but the start at 42 typically.

As for sleeping in a bra, I only do it the first few weeks of nursing before my milk supply gets regular and I’m not engorged. The poor girls need to be free sometimes! 😛

I’m so jealous of those of you that can go with out! My sisters like to complain that I got it all and they were left with nothing. We always want what we can’t have right? I’d LOVE a B-reduction, my DH isn’t as excited as I am about it tho  . I suspect at some point I will deal with this but would want to wait until after childbearing years were over as I would worry about nursing.

Sorry to hijack the thread. To OP, in the winter I doubt it matters as you wear multiple layers. In the spring and summer, modesty would probably dictate a bra.

Figleaves.com has 38J and JJ. You can search by size to find what you need.

Bravissimo.com also has 38s in big cup sizes (J and K), although it’s a UK company so shipping is a bit more expensive. It’s a flat rate for overseas shipping ($15) which is nice if you buy a lot. I like this company because they also sell tops and dresses to fit over large breasts. The first one I tried (size 08-super curvy) was actually too large in the chest, which was thrilling. I’ve never before had that problem. 😃

It kills me- apparently Bravissimo has brick-and-mortar shops all throughout the UK. Why the heck do we not have anything like this in the US?

Thank you! It is so frustrating! So for all you people looking for a new business to start, here is a GREAT idea! I’d go! 😛

I love these - I’m a 34DD (sometimes DDD when I gain a little weight) and wear a size medium, with an underwire, non pushup bra underneath, and a shirt buttoned up at the bottom over it. I have to warn you though - it creates cleavage for the busty among us. A good deal more cleavage than a lot of you would probably be comfortable with. I don’t mind it but then I gave up several years ago and realized that I will ALWAYS have some cleavage unless wearing a turtlenecked sack, and when I’m in the sack, men still stare anyway, so I might as well dress nicely for myself.

Some of these bigger bras look very nice…I’ve stuck with VS for the longest time. I get the Body By Victoria ones, and have some that are going on 4 years now with no underwire popping or anything - maybe different batches are better than others? 🤷 I wear a bra when I go out, but not at home after I’ve changed into PJs, or when I have a sick day. I’ve been professionally measured at several stores, and over time, and it’s always the same.

I will say that I absolutely loathe the effect of a sportsbra on a large breasted woman. You can always tell, and it’s understandable during exercise, but just under regular clothes? Just say no to Unibreast! I really think it’s less attractive than the braless look. But then I’m a hussy who doesn’t mind if naturally jiggly bits do their natural jiggling.

I’d love to get a breast reduction down to a small C cup, but I’m too scared. Of course, I’m more scared by what pregnancy/breastfeeding will do to them

No kidding. I always cut out the shelf bras for that reason. I’m not comfortable with that much cleavage; not necessarily for religious reasons, but because I’m a bit shy about my body.

Bravissimo (I linked to the site earlier) sells tank tops with built-in underwire bras, and sells them by regular bra size. I bought one on sale to try it, love it, and think I’ll buy a couple more to wear under button-ups and jackets.

You know your comment brought back a memory for me. When I was VERY young (in the 70’s), my mom used to sale bra’s from home (like Tupperware)!!! I have no idea what kind they were, I just remember 1) being embarrassed as all could get at because she had bras all over the living room! 2) She was VERY upset when they went out of business because she was making a TON of $$$$ selling them. Could have been because we lived in a small town and it was 2+ hour drive to the city.
I am shocked I even remember that, I think I was maybe kindergarten age when she sold those.

Isn’t it funny the things we remember or don’t remember! I can imagine as a child being mortified that your mom would sell bra’s. At least she was able to work from home! 😛 heck, I’d do it! 😃

I’ve thought about doing this - I don’t mind the cleavage a lot of the time, but other times it is inappropriate, and I’ll wear a less-liked outfit to avoid the problem, when I’d rather be wearing the cami - but I’m afraid I’d ruin the garment. My sewing experience is limited to re-attaching buttons. Is it difficult?

I once tried to wear it with just the shelf bra, and no regular bra - luckily I passed by a full length mirror before I left the house, those babies were all over the place. But the cleavage was less :o

I’ve tried several brands of the built in underwire ones, but have never found one I liked/that fit right.

My sewing experience level is the same as yours. I just take a pair of scissors and cut the shelf bra layer out as close to where it is attached to the main tank as possible. If the garment is turned inside out it doesn’t always look so neat, as sometimes the cut edge frays a bit, but right-side out you can’t tell that I’ve done anything.

Thanks, I’ll try it with my oldest one first 🙂

I haven’t read all the replies, but the question that popped up in my head was…Did the Virgin Mary wear a bra? I’m not trying to be disrespectful, it’s an honest question.

It seems to me she didn’t, just wore loose clothing. Maybe there is a lesson in that.

What is the lesson? Please enlighten us.

I’m not sure, but I’ll bet she “bound” herself with fabric around her chest, unless she was nursing Jesus. Not sure there is much of a lesson there. Underclothes are mostly a product of the society and culture a person lives in. One would have to do research on said customs of Jewish women in Mary’s time to find the reasonable answer. But the fact is we’ll never no and I’m not sure it matters all that much…🤷

I had breast surgery last summer and would also add to the opinions of those who encouaged the use of a bra fitter. Whether due to childbirth/nursing, weight gain/loss, surgery, etc. we can all change bra size several times. It can really help comfort, fit and appearance to have good quality bra that fits properly. My new favorite brand for styling and comfort is Natori. And other than than nursing bras and post-surgical compresses, I can’t sleep in a bra. My “modesty wear” around the house/pjs for the sake of my son is either a tank with a shelf bra or sports bra. With few exceptions, I’m not comfortable going bra-less.

God made us to be proud, walk tall, and be glorious. He also made us amazingly stimulating to men via our bouncing breasts. The proper undergarments both make us feel fabulous and keep us modest and within our culture’s standards of taste.

Being a B, you have enough to hold. I suggest you go to a boutique and get a great bra that was fitted to you. It will make your clothing look amazing and will make you feel amazing abou yourself.

At home, it’s fine to go braless. Bras do contribute to sagging. Put it all in perspective, but don’t be naive about the effect we have on men.
