I’ve been in front of the abortion clinic and with those holding signs along major roadways reminding passers-by that abortion kills. I would never stand in front of an abortion clinic with those who condemn women or doctors. We are there as a witness to the truth and in the spirit of love. One young lady offers alternatives to the women going inside. All need love, not condemnation.
The political issue is not insurmountable but it is more difficult. Look at each candidate’s background before voting. Look at their voting record.
What is causing indifference among too many Catholics is that one hour in Church is competing with many hours in front of the TV, computer, newspaper, radio or other media. Compared to 40 years ago, everything is oversexualized, families are fractured, and divorce and abortion have ended relationships.
Right now, the Catholic Church is running ads inviting Catholics to come back. What happened?
- I had an abortion and I don’t know what to do, I think I’ll just avoid Church.
- I had a divorce and no, I’m not going to get an anullment because then my kids will be bastards. And next time I get married, it will be a civil ceremony.
- After the divorce, I lost all my in-laws and friends on his side because they blame me.
- I’ve been brainwashed to believe the woman is not aborting a baby, just a ‘blob of tissue.’
- I’ve decided Church teaching is stupid and I’ll just do things my way.
- I work a lot because I’m paying child support, and I’m bitter.
Too many people got away from Church, and Catholic and other social groups because divorce cost them relationships, because abortion cost them relationships and because they have gradually become seduced by the world. Some feel they’ve gone too far from the Church that they don’t know how to come back. Trust me, like the father waiting for the return of his prodigal son, the Church is waiting with open arms.
A priest on Catholic Radio said too many Catholics are living like agnostics.
God bless,
