Debora, while your statements have a certain logic to them, I think it does not follow the real world usage of language. In my 24 years living as a part of the gay community, I never met anyone who identified as gay or homosexual without meaning that they were sexually active or actively seeking to be so. if someone says they are gay or homosexual, they mean that they have sex with people of the same gender. someone might say that they thought they were gay, and that would mean (maybe) that they had not (yet) had sex with someone of the same gender, but that’s it.
so yes, the word ex-gay does mean something. with all due respect, perhaps someone who has claimed above to never ever be attracted to another woman wouldn’t actually have a full understanding of what gay, homosexual and ex-gay …]
michelleds, In my 24+ years inthe gay community I have met PLENTY of people who identified as “gay” and did not mean they were active or seeking to be-and in fact were not interested in sexual activity at all. Just as I have met many people who identify as being straight, non active, and not seeking a sexual relationship. Like wise, I know many women who are homosexual that refuse the word lesbian and others who deplore the term gay. So lets not get caught up in words but rather to understand by careful listening(reading) of what is meant. The truth is in different parts of the country/world words are used differently. But it doesn’t mean we can’t figure out what someone means.
