That is not true. It was not a con or scam. They did indeed intend to deliver vehicles to every holder of a completed book and Hitler genuinely did want it to be as easy as possible for every German to own one. The problem was that only a few prototypes had been produced before the war started in September, 1939 and at that time all production was stopped in favor of military vehicles. The same thing happened in every combatant nation including the U.S. VW did indeed honor all of the completed books and delivered the cars in the 1950’s.Yeah, my dad had one - a beetle.
Under the scheme where the German people could get a car, hundereds of people applied and gave money to doing this, but not one single car was ever given to a person under that scheme… goes to show how easily Hitler lied, the huge scale he did, and how well they conned everyone…
