Forgotten Study: Abuse in School 100 Times Worse than by Priests

There should be zero tolerance in the Catholic Church for sexual abuse, the news should be fair and balanced, but it isn’t.

Equating others is a natural reaction in an indefensible situation, this is our skeleton.

Child abuse is an offense that goes across society and, as a matter of fact, is as irrepressible as wife-beating or murder. Why do you accept that the Church is uniquely responsible? After Vatican II, there was this great push not to hold ourselves apart from the world but to embrace it. Well, it seems we did, literally. The recored cases suggest a surge form 1960 to 1985. So much for the Spirit of Vatican II.

I think what I said was contrary to what you said, if you understand what I said, the Church is responsible for it’s own sins, like the Pharisee and the sinner.

The Pharisee pointed to the sin of others and forgot his own, but which one was more acceptable to God ?

Many of the arrests involve sexual abuse, and a new arrest involving a public school teacher seems to occur in our nation’s schools weekly, if not every few days:

Since sexual abuse of children by teachers is endemic in our nation’s public school, how come the national News Media never reports or focuses on these serious crimes that are occurring in America’s public school districts?

I’m no fan of how the media deals with the Church with regard to these cases and I do think they twist and blow things out of proportion to make the Church look bad. However, this school study to me doesn’t make our scandal look any better. It seems perfectly logical that there would be more sexual abuse by teachers than by priests simply because of more opportunity. Almost every child in this country attends a public or private school for 13 years, often also participating in sports and extracurricular activities with school faculty. A much smaller percentage of children attend Catholic churches let alone be alone with priests on any regular basis. So it’s not really comparable to me…

Well, if that is the case, why doesn’t the story of the sexual abuse of children doesn’t get any attention in the national News Media’s spotlight?

The national News Media spent hours and hours of time on the death of Michael Jackson.

Citizens in a democracy have the right to be informed.

As I stated before, I have a serious problem with the media coverage of the priest sex abuse cases. I’m just saying that it’s obvious that there would be more cases in schools than by priests, and that it really isn’t a great defense for what the guilty priests have done.

Beg pardon? The fact remains that the public school perps ruin a lot more kids than priests do, but there is no media spotlight on the public school’s shortcomings.

it would be the teacher unions,certainly, but I was thinking more of the gays on the NYT editorial board.

Unfortunately, statistically…the discoveries and exposure of child sexual abuse by any religious order is fairly new to us, maybe 30-40 years?..what may boggle your mind is that this sexual abuse of children and young adults, has in all probability…been occuring for many hundreds, if not thousands of years…it is shocking to us to hear about this now as news, and be made aware…that this has been ignored within our own churches, because we entrusted…implicitly…our children, grand children, and great grand children, to the Church Priests…maybe, in grave error, all these historical children were given specific orders by their parents…to be respectful and to do whatever was asked of them, without question and or argument…shockingly, do the math…

The problem is that it happens at all! Certainly, any man who commits this crime against any child or in many cases, to many children, MUST be arrested and face the utmost penalty of our laws, for these crimes…lets stick to the sexual abuse of children and our churches…we know now that this type of Pedist is NOT able to be rehabbed…there are numerous studies which prove these patterns, upon release from prison…short of voluntary castration by religious mentors (cut it out if it offends GOD) or at the very least, defrocking and retirement somewhere where they have no access to young innocents…something has to give!

It was and is, a huge mistake to move these men around to other churches, bury their crimes under any carpet and pooh pooh the facts that they are Criminals, period.

Should they know who they are, whether they have raped, or sexually abused boys and or girls, in any way…it is now up to the Churches, to change their inner policies and join the rest of the world and humanity…!

God starts with his own. Even if the rest of the world sneers at the Church, she can take it. That what she’s here for.

The rest of the world is very sick and the Church is a hospital for the sick. Some of the doctors are even sick, sad to say. But the Divine Physician knows what He’s doing!

At least we know it now and the sickness is being cleaned up. Pray that the rest of the world tries to clean up their own act (although they’ll never come clean - they mostly just like to point fingers at the Church) and that the suffering of the Church helps to that end.
