Hey, HEY! Back to your corners!

Isn’t this thread about former Catholics?? Couldn’t you cut just a little slack? When the posts are sailing along in your favor, that’s just dandy. One dissenting opinion and here comes the Venom Wagon.

Allow for another human being to view the world in a different way. If God can do it, if Jesus can do it, then you can.

“The naughty step”?

You plumb the depths of Scripture, searching for meaning, searching for your place in this world, and this is what you come up with?

Oy.

What is arrogant is your posture that you are right and everyone else is wrong. For how long you have been on this site…you still have no understanding of Catholicism or what we believe.

We DO believe… We don’t understand why YOU refuse to believe.
If you believed that Christ lives in your heart you would never again worship a wafer.

Well, yes. I ALREADY KNOW I’m not going straight to heaven. If I lived for a thousand years I could not make amends here for the sins I committed as an agnostic. And although my sins will be washed away with baptism and the sacrament of reconciliation, I can never fullfill the temporal punishment due for a life lived only for myelf. So it is of ENORMOUS comfort to me that, given the Grace to live a better life from now on, I will be cleansed in the fires of purgatory rather than burn in the fires of hell - with God’s mercy.

Can I make you a coffee? Or a tea? Or something?

😃

I do believe that Christ has put His Spirit in my heart. I worship Jesus Christ who died for me and rose again. I believe that He is Really Present; Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, in the Eucharist. It is not a “wafer” it is HIM. When I eat His Flesh and Drink His Blood as He commanded us to do, He infuses every part of my being, not just my heart. 👍

No bickering or derailing. Let them give their reasons in peace.

my apologies to you adstinity, for getting riled up at Hisalone’s comments…and the resulting derailment…i was going to say that in my response, hindsight is 20/20 they say…comments such as Hisalone’s tend to get me riled as they are belittling to my faith and many others…

I went to the church months after the procedure took place. The doors of my parish were locked; this is not any metaphorical reference.

I eventually spoke with a priest and made my confession concerning this matter. Yes, three Our Fathers and three Hail Marys.

I was young and ignorant. It’s one of many reasons I cannot fathom the Church’s position on artificial birth control. Yes, yes, I know the arguments. I just don’t find them useful.

The OP asked, and I answered. Is that okay with you?

Perhaps the priest understood the guilt you were carrying, hence why he asked you to recite rosary prayers. What was wrong with that? He didn’t judge you, he felt for you, as i would too if i was in his shoes. Nobody said aborting a child is like a walk in the park. Personally, i do not think it is ‘okay’ to abort a child. But I am not the one to judge you for your actions. That is God’s alone.

cathopologist:

Nothing is wrong with the priest assigning rosary prayers to me; I find it interesting, though, that the penance I regularly received for what are considered venial sins is exactly the same as for what is considered a mortal sin.

Perhaps the priest felt that you had already done a certain amount of penance before you even came to confession. When a sinner repents, no priest worth his salt would make the repentant feel worse about it by piling on penance.

However, despite the comment on purgatory. Looking at the catholic girls eyes I’m reminded of a Vulcan. Sorry, not to offend it just looks that way.

As far as God’s Naughty step… I think Scott Hahn has a better consept. Everytime in the bible that God renews his covenant with his people he uses flames like Abraham and the burning rod that went between the split halves of the animal initializing the covenant with Abraham. Or with Moses and the burning bush that isn’t consumed or the pillar of fire for Isreal. And in the NT. the Holy Spirit came down like Tounges of fire on each of the apostles. So purgatory is the flame of the presence of God purifying us in his presence and renewing us in his heavenly covenant. People fell down like dead men when in the presence of God because of the conviction of their sin. So it will be in purgatory. Thats my take on it anyway. Not a Naughty step but a renewal of the covenant.

Thats pretty much what I said to Marietta in an earlier post:

To me, it’s still the naughty step. Copyrighted to tGette of course 😛

I think many have the consept of purgatory as punishing flames that really burn and char us. I’m not sure this is correct. But to be honest, I haven’t done an in depth study.

You’ll notice I said ‘‘cleansed in the fires’’ not charred or burnt 👍 I don’t really even think there’ll be flames as such. Except in the heart. The flames will ‘‘purify’’ the heart, making it new in the sight of God, any stains will be eroded, and the heart will be made worthy in the sight of God.

Now, in Hell, Im quite clear there really will be actual flames, gas mark 8, and a roasting spit
