What was the straw on the camel’s back? What was it that caused you ultimately to leave the Catholic Church and how hard was it for you?
Mass had ended and everyone else left first. I stayed and spent my time with the Lord, truly present in the tabernacle. Eventually I had to leave and it was hard to leave because I so enjoy being in His presence! What was the straw on the camel’s back? I love when everytime I want to know more about our separated brethren, the first three posts are, “I’m not insert whichever Non-Catholic Party I’m asking about here, but…”Mass had ended and everyone else left first. Good news though…by God’s grace, I get to go back next week!
Wait…was this a question for Non-Catholics?
Yup, I see now…I re-read the thread title!![]()
Sorry…I love when everytime I want to know more about our separated brethren, the first three posts are, “I’m not insert whichever Non-Catholic Party I’m asking about here, but…”

I stumbled from church to church and presbytery to presbytery for someone, anyone to help me and there was no one there. I phoned the parish priests and they were not there, I called a priest in the next parish and was told I could not see him but to go to my “own” priest. I went to the altar and was told to leave … it was closing time. I went home and almost died and there was no one there. Upon awaking I was told I almost went to hell and had to go to confession. Upon going to confession I was told I was unwell and to leave and to not return until I had thought things over. What was the straw on the camel’s back? What was it that caused you ultimately to leave the Catholic Church and how hard was it for you?
You consider it a ‘Catholic teaching’ that it was okay for you to abort a child? So you wanted to repent and get rid of the guilt by asking for His mercy - but the doors of your local parish was locked. Was that a metaphorical sentence or a literal one?In 1971, after my abortion, I went to my local parish in the early afternoon to pray. It was a weekday. The doors were locked.
A small thing?

Justification = faith + works. What was the straw on the camel’s back? What was it that caused you ultimately to leave the Catholic Church and how hard was it for you?
I didn’t read that in her post. And you can add “Judgmental Self Righteous Wannabe’s” to my list. You consider it a ‘Catholic teaching’ that it was okay for you to abort a child?
I don’t think he meant to be judgemental or self righteous.I didn’t read that in her post. And you can add “Judgmental Self Righteous Wannabe’s” to my list.
Of course, most religions have those.
I hope you’re right.I don’t think he meant to be judgemental or self righteous.
Justification = faith + works.
Thank you for the correction. Please nobody derail this thread.sheesh! still confusing “works of the law” and “good works”
Gal 5:
"4 You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. 5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we wait for the hope of righteousness. 6* For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is of any avail, but** faith working **through love. "
i.e. faith + good works NOT works of the law. If faith isn’t working in love, i.e. doing good works, faith is DEAD!!! And it won’t justify, it won’t save, because faith is just a said faith.
Calls to mind a quote I heard from Father Benedict Groeschel: (paraphrased)I heard the gospel of Jesus christ preached and believed that God could re-create in me a right spirit. I thought I would remain in the Church. But compare what christ had done in my life with my families and saw how being Catholic had no effect on their life. My father, with Jesuit training, manipulated canon law and commited adultry yet claimed that being catholic was superior to any other christian faith. Certain brothers didn’t really know the scriptures and finally, I compared a 10 minute sermon at mass which basically was. “We need to be socially minded and be generally good people” with out ever mentioning Jesus Christ once. I said how can the Lord be here? One lay minister lady who give communion to the elderly that can’t make mass beleived that since Jesus was human he was also a sinner. I came to believe the same people who believed this couldn’t be christian so the Catholic church couldn’t either. I left seeking the real Jesus of scripture.
Strangely enough. It has me looking back at Rome.
So its considered judgmental or self-righteous if you are against abortion? Hmmm…I didn’t read that in her post. And you can add “Judgmental Self Righteous Wannabe’s” to my list.
Of course, most religions have those.
No, I consider it “bad form” to even hint at criticism on a thread where non-catholics have been asked to comment on why they left the church. Especially on a subject as serious as abortion. So its considered judgmental or self-righteous if you are against abortion?
