Note that more heavily LDS states have lower abortion rates.
Mormons who adhere to Mormonism sometimes have abortions. Catholics who adhere to Catholicism do not have abortions. What is the point in comparing faithful Mormons to dissenting Catholics?Note that more heavily LDS states have lower abortion rates.
There is no doubt in my mind the LDS abortion rate is lower than the rate for Catholics. When you look at all of the liberal states in the Northeast, they have a high number of abortions and a high number of Catholics. The Catholics in the Northeast seem to be very pro-choice based on their voting record. The same seems to be true of the Catholics in major cities like New York, Chicago and San Francisco. LDS seem to be more pro-life in practice.Note that more heavily LDS states have lower abortion rates.
Defending the lds faith is not a sin. I am only defending the misconceptions that have been posted on these lds related sites. What is the sin in that? I have not critized the catholic faith at all. To do so, would be to criticize my own now departed mother and father.Did you confess that you’ve been defending the truth of the Mormon Church here? You don’t need to answer that (assuming you really went to confession), but if you are really Catholic like you claim you need to do some soul-searching. You certainly don’t act like you believe in Catholicism around here. Perhaps you are schizophrenic. That can be helped with medication.
I even gave the first reading at the last Mass.Does your priest know that you believe in the Book of Mormon and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God?
Paul
P.S.: I don’t believe that you attend mass and confession.
I don’t think that you are correct. I think that mormons are god-respecting people who seem to pray much more than the average catholic. They also attempt to live holy lives by attempting to keep their bodies holy for the holy spirit to dwell in. If more catholic youth had the same values as mormon youth, the world would certainly be a more wonderful place. There is much that catholic youth can learn from the actions of mormon youth. I am speaking of course in general terms. My Mother taught me while growing up that we evangelize in how we live our lives and what we profess to believe. By defending the LDS faith here, IMO you are evangelizing (proselytizing) whenever you defend a faith that is diametrically opposed to Catholic doctrine.
how is any of that different than the catholic church? The abortion rate is lower for mormons because the average lds live their religion much more sincerely than average catholics. The sanctity of life is very much ingrained in the lds mindset. For the lds, the whole idea of marriage can be centered not only in love but also in bringing to earth the spirit children of heavenly father.
Thus, the abortion rate is smaller within the lds community. Plus, lds social services provide adoption services for those lds who do not want to keep a baby. Hence, the pressure is off unwanted pregnancies.
yes it is. it’s called heresy.Defending the lds faith is not a sin. I am only defending the misconceptions that have been posted on these lds related sites. What is the sin in that? I have not critized the catholic faith at all. To do so, would be to criticize my own now departed mother and father.
scandalous!I even gave the first reading at the last Mass.I have stated that the book of mormon has not been proven false. And that is a truth. Nothing to confess about that. i also have an open mind about JS based on my own testimonial experience of praying about the book of mormon when I was 18 years old.
you missed the whole point of that post. you are defending a faith whose doctrines and practices are opposed to the catholic faith.it doesn’t matter if LDs people are nice or try to be holy. the same could be said for muslims, hindus, budhists and even some pagans.I don’t think that you are correct. I think that mormons are god-respecting people who seem to pray much more than the average catholic. They also attempt to live holy lives by attempting to keep their bodies holy for the holy spirit to dwell in. And so, yes, I can defend many actions in the mormon faith.
I can assure you that active Catholics pray more than active Mormons. They can do that just by attending Mass, but I find prayer is fostered more in the Catholic Church than in the Mormon Church. I am not sure active Mormon youth are that much better than Catholic youth who take their religion seriously. I have known too many Mormon boys who go drinking on Saturday night and bless the sacrament on Sunday morning. My general impression is that teenagers will be teenagers.I don’t think that you are correct. I think that mormons are god-respecting people who seem to pray much more than the average catholic. They also attempt to live holy lives by attempting to keep their bodies holy for the holy spirit to dwell in. I don’t see it this way. I try to live a decent life. I see no sin in defending the lds faith against slander and unchristian-like statements. My children are fine in the lds faith but they also know my interest in the catholic faith once more and support me. I see nothing with that either.scandalous!
you have actively born testimony that JS was a true prophet and the BoM is true. your postings on LDS boards are known here as well.
you are an active participant in the LDS church living a double life. you actively encourage your children to be LDS and you are actively promoting the LDS faith. these things are wrong in the eyes of the catholic church. your alleged regular participation in the mass is contrary to the teachings of the LDS church. (of which you are a member)
you need to decide what you believe since right now you are acting in a manner denounced by both churches that you claim.
As a Catholic father with a Mormon family I understand your dilemma if it is real. I too have tried to defend the LDS faith at times when I thought it was being attacked unfairly. What I have seen you do is defend the obvious errors of Mormonism such as the Book of Mormon. While I appreciate the LDS Church teaches my family good moral values, I don’t mix-up that with the false doctrine it teaches. You are walking a very sad path whenever you begin to defend Mormon doctrine.I don’t see it this way. I try to live a decent life. I see no sin in defending the lds faith against slander and unchristian-like statements. My children are fine in the lds faith but they also know my interest in the catholic faith once more and support me. I see nothing with that either.
People need to see human sides to individual lives and not be so quick to make judgements. And I will continue to give the readings when requested. And yes, I will continue to take communion if I feel worthy.
i understand and respect that YOU see this as okay. my point is that the CATHOLIC CHURCH does not see it this way nor does the LDS. that means that your disagreement is with those churches. if you want to be universalist or something else then you are free to do so but don’t claim to be catholic/mormon/etc. if these are your true beliefs. you don’t defend the LDS church against slander you consistently defend their known teachings and practices as being okay because they are nice and try to be good and you believe that’s all God asks. the Catholic church is very clear that parents have an obligation as apart of the sacrament of marriage to rear their children as Catholics and teach them the faith. your insistence lectoring is scandalous as you are an active mormon. your taking communion while professing the heresy that JS is a true prophet and the BoM true is a mortal sin. I see your actions as little different than the folks with the political agendas who disagree with the Catholic church but barge into mass and take communion to “show the church” the way it “ought to be”.I don’t see it this way. I was not referring to Mormons and what they believe. I was referring to YOU and what you believe. No matter how you dance around it, defending Mormonism and its doctrines, as a Catholic is, as someone else pointed out, heresy. It would be equivalent to a Catholic defending gnosticism or Arianism.I don’t think that you are correct. I think that mormons are god-respecting people who seem to pray much more than the average catholic. They also attempt to live holy lives by attempting to keep their bodies holy for the holy spirit to dwell in. Anyone who claims to be Catholic and then claims the Book of Mormon has not proven to be false has real issues somewhere. I certainly wouldn’t trust that person with anything.i understand and respect that YOU see this as okay. my point is that the CATHOLIC CHURCH does not see it this way nor does the LDS. that means that your disagreement is with those churches. if you want to be universalist or something else then you are free to do so but don’t claim to be catholic/mormon/etc. if these are your true beliefs. you don’t defend the LDS church against slander you consistently defend their known teachings and practices as being okay because they are nice and try to be good and you believe that’s all God asks. the Catholic church is very clear that parents have an obligation as apart of the sacrament of marriage to rear their children as Catholics and teach them the faith. your insistence lectoring is scandalous as you are an active mormon. your taking communion while professing the heresy that JS is a true prophet and the BoM true is a mortal sin. you need either confess your whole situation to your priest or your mormon bishop or pick another church whose doctrine you agree with.
very true. the BoM specifically condemns catholic doctrine.Anyone who claims to be Catholic and then claims the Book of Mormon has not proven to be false has real issues somewhere. I certainly wouldn’t trust that person with anything.

James 1:8 says this… “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
