Formerly each sub-forum of this forum had its own moderators. Each one was monitored intensively and action was taken swiftly against offending posts – and those who posted them. I much preferred that system.
Agreed. Presumably that was not financially sustainable.

While I agree with @DonRuggero on my own preference for moderated forums with those who understand how to speak with reason and grace, I can go either way. I still am a work and progress and view the lack of moderation as exercise in character building, and sometimes parenting skills.

The “moderation” we got when the resources applied to moderation were severely reduced was unsatisfactory. I recall coming to grief once because the moderator took too little time to grasp what was being said. I complained, he realized his error and corrected the situation. Not so bad. Then we appeared to get to a situation where “the herd” got to decide what was acceptable. That sometimes produced laughable results.

Yea, I realize that no one is perfect and people can say things sometimes online. It doesn’t mean someone should be banned for life from something or have their voice shut out, unless it was some threat to the site or a member then they do. If it’s politically incorrect that’s fine. It’s like Twitter censoring Trump’s tweets. They are abusing power because they have ownership and because his views don’t align with theirs. Yes, they might be able to do that, but it doesn’t make it right. I don’t strive to be that type of leader. I encourage truth and wouldn’t give someone some questionarre that allows them to outright reject major church teaches like some dating sites do to get more users and to seem less judgemental. I stand for all of the teachings of the church, but if someone goes on CATW who has different beliefs and opinions they have a right to speak their mind.

Opinions are not the issue as much as stating as fact that which is false. That is a really bad thing on a Catholic forum where some people may be gullible about their faith. In the past, that has been one of the more dangerous things that have happened. Another issue was the liability, and concern for life, that came by trying to give medical advice over the internet. There are line that endanger others in the crossing.

Ok, yea, I agree, stating things that are false should be discouraged, but I think people need to realize not to believe everything they see on the internet, I really just hope for it to be a positive community, I hope nothing arises where people are debating, I just don’t think CATW will turn into that type of site, there are many other places for people to do that right now.

This is sad news. Another end of yet another era. The forum really went downhill when they changed the format.
I met some very holy people here. Also met some really nasty ones - professional trolls.

Is there an alternative forum?
