I’m hoping Tim Keller has a positive effect on LiberalPrincess. Sometimes, it takes someone outside the Church to help a Catholic understand what the Church teaches. 👍

If I could change my views over time, as dramatically as they changed, then I’m sure that LiberalPrincess can. Praying always for my liberal, heterodox friends. :gopray:

Not familiar with Melancon. The jury isn’t in on Manchin. Not enough votes to assess. Both NARAL and NRL seem mixed on him.

I think the “It’s the Repubs fault” saw has been worn pretty dull, don’t you think? Blaming the GOP for the virtually total adherance of Dems (who even have pro-abort in their platform) to abortion is almost as lame as Obama’s present “interpretation” of Obama’s “you can keep your policy, period.”

The Dem party is utterly devoted to abortion. Time to face it and make a moral decision.

Funny how you automatically blame Republicans. It never occurred to you that their numbers were diminished because of their own actions/votes, and their supporters response to those actions. Those “pro-life” Democrats sold out their (claimed) pro-life beliefs in the passage of Obamacare. They accepted a worthless piece of paper (executive order) in exchange for their votes, because their party refused to block abortion funding.

And they used this piece of paper and tried to claim they stood strong for pro-life beliefs. And the voters saw right through it. And voted them out.

“Pro-life” Democrats suffered because their voters held them accountable for their sell-out of pro-life beliefs. Quit blaming others for their actions.

I’m rather conservative, but I really like and respect Kristen Powers.

I find that she’s more circumspect and intellectually sincere than a lot of conservative guests with whom I agree.

Dear LiberalPrincess,
There are many organizations in my community with whom I disagree. There is an Atheist club, a very liberal university, and a Polish catholic church in schism. They do not frighten me. I am very secure in my faith and I welcome open dialogue. I have no desire to visit the Polish church in schism. I do not look down on people whose opinions differ from mine, nor do I view them as sources of entertainment. Christ calls us to LOVE our enemies. The people I find hardest to love are arrogant, self-righteous, know-it-alls. It is probably because I struggle with that myself. I tend to be very judgmental. It’s a vice I struggle with daily. Luckily I have people in my life who stop me when I start on a rant. I also have Confession to give me the Grace to work on it.

One of the things that helps me is to LOVE the person. I have a woman in choir who is one of those loud-mouthed liberals who can’t help herself form voicing her opinions, many of which are not in accord with church teaching (women priests, etc.) at inappropriate times, like during choir practice etc., when you can’t have a real dialog. I couldn’t stand being around her. She is a good person though. One day, I just got it in my heart that I needed to LOVE her. Ever since then, when she starts on her comments, I am able to love her even more! It’s the Holy Spirit! Now I actually seek to sit next to her and we are great choir partners.

I hope you find it in your heart to be patient with people who don’t agree with you, and that you sincerely LOVE them.

I must admit I often wondered about Dr. James Dobson. Why hasn’t he become a Catholic yet? He is such an intelligent and educated person.

There were 64 pro-life Democrats before gerrymandering in the House; there are now less than 15, and possibly less than 10. There is a direct causal relationship between intensifying the liberalism of Democratic districts and making national Democrats more pro-abortion (or more cohesive on any other issue). I would think that would be extremely obvious.

Then explain to me how Charlie Melancon, an extremely good & moral, 100% pro-life, anti-Obamacare Democrat lost to David Vitter, an extremely immoral man, in Louisiana in 2010. Did he lose his Senate race for his opposition to Obamacare?

Let’s see your list of 64 “prolife Democrats” and their ratings from both NARAL and NRL, as well as their votes on Obamacare. Not some liberal opinion piece, now, but the real stuff.

And both NARAL and NRL say that yes, there are fewer than ten prolife Dems in Congress. About the same as the number of pro-abortion Repubs.

Time to admit the party with abortion in its platform is the abortion party by choice.

As to Melancon. he did, indeed, vote against Obamacare’s passage (once it was known his vote wasn’t needed). But he did refuse to keep it from coming out of committee. Possibly voters remembered that.

It’s the latest version of “It’s Bush’s fault”. Nothing is ever Democrats fault. In this case, the Democrat party’s total devotion to abortion on demand is blamed on Republicans. Astonishing that the Dems would let themselves be so influenced by Repubs that they even put abortion rights into their platform plank and always vote pro-abortion. They put up for President a man who would be okay with his daughter aborting his own grandchildren.
