Unlike Fr. Marciel, who’s ministry and spirituality was permeated with keeping his sinful actions enabled and hidden, Fr. Corapi’s ministry is not in question, only some actions which are unrelated to what was preached. It appears to me that the association with Fr. Corapi is the problem for EWTN, not any desire to cooperate with his superiors in suspending his public ministry.

Automatically assuming that someone is guilty until they are “proven” innocent is a disastrous and unfair approach, especially in a situation where someone is being set up. To prove my point PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO

There’s a reason why the words “Calumny” and “Slander” are in your dictionary. This is because people lie about things all the time for their own wicked reasons.

I agree. Shouldn’t “everything be established by two or more witnesses?” I hate the situation that allows a person to make accusations without any risk to themselves. There needs to be a proportional risk so as to preserve checks and balances and the rights of all involved. To be allowed to make accusations that can cost a person so much, and yet not face real and proportional reprecussions w=if your accusations prove false, is not justice. In many cases, there are in fact reprecussions, but in so many other cases, slander and calumny are allowed to work unfettered.
 
In the video, those innocent policemen would probably have been fired or sent to jail had they been assumed guilty until proven innocent. In the video, the accuser sounded very credible. The only reason why the officers were exonerated was because there was a videotape visually proving their word against their accuser’s word.

The chilling words of the officer in the video, who said “I could have lost my job, my house, and everything I had worked so hard for…I could have lost it with that one false allegation” is a sober reminder that there are bad people who have no problem ruining other people’s lives.

Accusing Father Corapi of “behavior unbecoming a priest” has already damaged his reputation and removed 20 years worth evangelizing from the global airwaves…

Just to clarify, if by chance you misunderstood my original statement, I meant to do so in administration and law–not simply in terms of how society considers the accused.

This was an entertaining video. I recognize that the case is somewhat different for ministers, as their livelihood + self image are pretty much intrinsically bound to their reputation. Thus, a single calumny can ruin someone’s life.

On the other hand, not enough lives have been ‘ruined’ by true accusation. Everyone in the Church realizes this. Better that we accuse the hierarchy and superiors of being too tough than not tough enough–eventually, enough good ministers will be acquitted that it will hardly affect a ministry until the verdict is laid down.
 
I’m going to stop giving money to EWTN. They have no reason to drop Fr. Corapi from their programming. He deserves the benefit of doubt at this point. It’s simply an allegation which is likely false. I thought EWTN is better than this. It’s not like EWTN is has any stake in this.

The Church is clearly nervous the world over about even appearing to keep anything suppressed these days. That said I doubt SOLT would have released what they have released without good reason. If the accusation appeared false I think they would have at least taken the time to gather the facts and present it all at one time. We’ll see though, time will tell…

Fr. Corapi has stated that these allegations are false. As far as we know, we should believe him out of christian charity. The accuser is the one who should prove her case, not Fr. Corapi. But of course we live in an upside down world. Unfortunately, EWTN lost out on my monthly contributions.

As for Fr. Euteneuer, big deal–he kissed a women and repented. St. Peter rejected Christ and was rebuked by St. Paul. Didn’t Christ tell us to forgive 7 times 7?

I highly doubt that. A single incident of kissing a woman does not lead to “intensive evaluation and counseling” (as stated by his bishop). And, of course, HLI suggested there was more than one accusation…

However, even granting the silly idea that’s all that happened, that still means he kissed a woman he was performing exorcisms on. That’s highly disturbing.
 
Intercession and innocent suffering

I often wonder that if innocent people did not suffer so much what would happen to the world? They are the ones who are interceding the whole time. Their innocence is so pleasing to God. By accepting suffering, they intercede for us. (how about Fr Corapi?)

When I went to their website the story is in the center section where they have new stories posted, it was down maybe 3 or 4 from the top. It just says “Montana priest suspended …”

Thanks for the link. Though, I will say, they don’t appear to be “all over” Fr. Corapi as much as they are all over the bishop and superior connected to the case…
 
I understand the desire to defend someone such as Fr. Corapi, but I must say a word in defense of his superior. He too is a priest and deserves the benefit of the doubt. All this talk about two witnesses. Has it not occurred to anyone here but Br. David that the the SOLT is aware of this fact? How does anyone here know how many witnesses they currently have or how far this investigation has progressed? It is wrong to judge the prudence of this suspension as virtually none of the details are public. This rush to judgement against them the same thing that they are being criticized for. There is no emergency here for us to know everything right away. Let us allow canon law and the SOLT a chance before we condemn them.

SNAP has no interest here. This is just another example of how they operate on half-truths and inuendo. There has been **no **allegation of child sexual abuse, that which the bishops have been transparent about. There has been zero allegation of any crime at all. If the man were not a Catholic priest, this wouldn’t be a concern to anyone. This is yet one more reason to be suspect of everything this agenda-drive organization says.

I believe Fr. Corapi to be a good and holy priest, who is and will continue to be united with Christ with suffering as never before this Lent. I am praying for him and all priests and hope that many others will as well.
