All I can say is “wow”. I saw this posted by a CAF apologist in the Apologetics section. If I am reading it correctly, the SOLT press release seems to indicate that Fr. Corapi is guilty of sexual impropriety and some other things according to their investigation (including recently sexting).

Has Fr. Corapi disputed this since SOLT put out the press release?

It is sad but in the wake of so many scandals in the Protestant and Catholic churches, it is just one more. What a gifted man…sad.

The way I see it is that his superior told him to go civil in court, thus stopping the investigation …remember, this was his Superior’s advice.
This is NOT what happened. He has not followed ANY of the directions of his superior. He is claiming that he got this advice from OTHER sources that do not presently have authority over him. He has rebelled against the current authorities, and claims he has sought both of their predecessors.

If he were following his superior’s advice, he would have already reported back to the SOLT house.

As has been pointed out, this is like contacting the retired general, and using his advice to disobey the current general.

Shoshana, again my apologies. I reread your post and see that you put the part about who wrote it at the bottom. I only saw your heading and, “this is the email I sent.” It was totally out of character for you, and I should have read the whole thing more carefully.

I apologize.

Originally, his Superior told him to go civilly…this is a fact. This was before he was called back to community. We are talking about two different things here…

What an unfortunate mess for him, for SOLT, and for the Catholic Church. It is sad that nowadays when people here about this stuff or the scandal involving Fr. Cutie they just shrug and say, “Well, at least it did not involve children”.

We need to pray for a renewal of holiness in the church (and long life to Benedict XVI).

I certainly hope not. We have had a pretty decent discussion on this through the life of the thread to date.

I would question whether it would pass the Jesus test of HIM being a moderator. Think about that. Would He apreciate anyone assuming the whole truth? Not from the various lives of the saints I have read. He specifically has mandated that anyone who criticizes a priest, criticizes Him…and again,

would this thread pass the test?

That is what Fr. corapi said, that it was his Superior’s advice, however his Superiors ( SOLT) say that when he did this he stopped the investigation and they asked him not to do it. Are you talking about an ex Superior?

I dont think so. His own reports testify that he got this advice from outside.

It is immaterial now, though. His superior has ordered him to drop the suit, and move to SOLT. His refusal to do these things under obedience says all that needs to be said.

Shoshana - I believe when Fr. Flaherty (and possibly retired Bishop Graciela) recommended he go to a civil law suit, both men were retired and NOT Fr. Corapi’s superiors. They were both retired. Fr. was under obedience to his current superior in the Society and his current diocesan bishop.

Both men (the two retired men) were out of line to even recommend that Fr. refuse his current authority.

Unless I have my timeline messed up. In which case, I’ll stand corrected.

But retired bishops and retired founders of orders don’t retain their authority under canon law, as Br. JR so helpfully pointed out to us.

So what is it? His Superior says to go civilly and then tells him to stop? What is the real answer?

Yes, i understand. But it is confusing, would you not say? Do the civil suit, do not do the civil suit, forget about it…come back home.

Most of it, not all of course, but most of it has been pretty fair and stuck to what is known. We have been trying hard to keep things civil. It does seem to be getting worse now that they have closed the other one and directed people here. Quite honestly, I wish they had not done that as there was a reason I was not participating on the other thread.

As for the rest, with your comments about whether or not it was pass Jesus’ test or not, I suspect it would not though Christ certainly was not one to mince words and was not afraid to call out things when he needed to. Regardless of whether he would have approved or not, I notice that it hasn’t keep you from participating much.

So with that in mind, perhaps we can get back to our discussion.

Just as a comparison, here is a Catholic monk who has never scandalized, always used his considerable talents for the Church’s glorification.

johnmichaeltalbot.com/

Ain’t no black sheep dogs on his website!

👍

God bless our faithful priests, monks, brothers, etc.!!!

John Michale Talbot is not a priest nor a monk btw…just thought I would let you know…

Hee- hee - you are right about that. Seems Jesus himself might have gotten warned and banned pretty darn fast on CAF. But the MODs are doing their best, and we all accepted the rules when we signed up.

I think we need to be charitable but for better or worse his order has issued a press release stating he carried on a relationship with a woman (had her living with him), has recently been sexting and a number of other things. This is public and SOLT among others has made it so. Certainly, we must remember that these are just SOLT’S allegations based on what they say is evidence.

It is sad but people throughout history have done things to let Christ and the Church down. We must not hide those things but deal with the honestly. I think we need to be fair to Fr. Corapi and hear him out as well. But either SOLT or Fr. Corapi are not accurate.

I think He would have gotten crucified to say the least. Because you see, He was quite the liberal in His time. He went against the clerical heirarchy of His time and they nailed him with CALUMNY AND GOSSIP! My…sounds familar.

(Let it be known, I do NOT compare Corapi with Jesus at all…but he is still a priest, an alter christus…deliberating on this issue is a sin…IMHO)🙂
