Should, could, would…These people came here knowing exactly what they were getting into. It’s not like they were forced to come here.
When someone does something completely of free choice and free will, it’s hard to call them slaves.
Both the employers and the illegal immigrants are beaking the law. I believe that the Catechism requires us to follow the just laws of government, so both are sinning.
You’re missing the point ahapka.
Employers get off scott free or at most with a slap on the hand. Big hairy deal! “don’t do that anymore” (wink, wink)…bad immigrants…get out of the “land of opportunity” and try your luck elsewhere.
YOu think this is about sin?! you may be right…Our sin! sin against the poor, sin against the oppressed, sin against the persecuted, sin against the destitute. Never mind that the destitute is here, there or half way around the world.
Oh its about sin alright. We’re ok with the accusatory terms of slave trade, oppression and abuse of other humans when it’s about another country, but boy do we sugar coat it when its about us. Not us, we’re a nation of laws and rights and entitlements.
We as a nation are killing God’s sanctifying grace in our nation’s soul… that’s why we can recognize the wrong in other nations but we can’t recognize it in ourselves.
