Fr John Corapi has Announced in a Video Message that he is Leaving the Priesthood

Our moderator has asked us to not speculate. However, Corapi and the Church have left us with nothing but speculation. Oh, some little factoids are creeping out here and there, but we will not truly learn the truth in the short term.

In the long run, the truth will come out. People or organizations cannot cover up or hide behind fabrications or lies. Who knows, we may find the truth to be somewhere in between!

In the meantime, I’m left with speculation and sadness over the situation. Trust me, this will get worse. I pray that we don’t tear ourselves apart in the process.
 
When Fr. Francis left years ago, he wrote a letter that cleared 80% of it up and people gave opinions, etc. I asked my (very reverent) Dominican priest, who would never let “gossip” go without prying what type, etc., if it was a sin to discuss it, to give an opinion and he said, "you shouldn’t speculate, make things ups, but when someone on the Internet, TV, computer, puts things out there, has a website (his didn’t last long) it’s only natual to discuss it. You didnt’ dig it up, it came from him. I feel with Fr. Corapi, maybe the theories on what he’s really doing should be sidelined, but discussing what he did with his new website, what he has been putting on the Internet, his superiors comments, are perfectly allright. Is he doing this to be ignored or just have his supporters follow blindly?
He had loyal followers that didn’t know very much about him and are shocked at some of the info, some did know and didn’t care, some fell in-between. This whole mess with him saying he’ll put voice messages of someone on the Internet, then he wont, saying his sueing and then having the trial online, the whole thing is a mess right now. He needs prayers, some of us pray for vocations and priests daily, he is in that group, but to say you must be quiet unless you are saying somethng nice, isn’t logical.
He puts information out there, he wants people to see it and seeing what they say and don’t say, might have him think about how it is perceived no matter what his intent. Catholics are hit left and right with scandals and bad press, the good things never hit the mainstream press, to have a shoe ready to drop in some eyes is just scary.

I wish I didn’t speculate outside of my home, but when you put information out there, like any news, it wont be ignored and shouldn’t be.

I also don’t understand how certain posters and bloggers think that piling on by criticizing this or that about him is going to make it more likely that he changes his mind. What’s the goal? To encourage him to come back or to show how many (perceived) faults you can point out?

Where is the logic in saying “well he started it”, that makes it a free for all?

I saw Father Corapi on EWTN last year (or maybe earlier this year, time does get away from me). He was on Father Mitch Pacwa’s show and during it he fainted. He has been ill and my understanding is that they finally diagnosed very low Vitamin D levels. Can be very dangerous.

I wish he hadn’t dyed his hair. It looks terrible and vain.

That said, we all need to keep him in our prayers.

Wrong. It was the camera man who fainted when fr John was talking about how fear was useless.
 
The video is on YouTube. It wasn’t him who fainted. I asked about this when I visited ewtn with the camera man last march on life on the rock show.

I strongly disagree with the analysis in this article. I wish I had the time to tear it apart sentence by sentence but I do have a lot of obligations and people that depend on me. I want to say that to pretend that the Kafklaesque scenario and the Catch–22 applies with Father Corapi and the Catholic Church is to be short of hallucinating.

Father Corapi may not be aware that he is not above Canon Law and that neither are the faithfuls who sought him for the teachings of the Catholic Church. It is absurd to think that the thing to do, as he was advised by Bp. Gracida and Father Flanagan and as this priest writes from his prison cell is to raise the faithfuls against the Church and have a public trial. This would be to rebel against the Catholic Church.

Father Corapi knew very well his obligations and his responsibilities**. Now is the time to demonstrate his faith and commitment to the Catholic Church. **

Sure, there is always room for improvements here and there or adjustments to the laws of the Church but there are channels for this. To call the faithfuls to a revolt is not the way.

*Fr Corapi has preached so eloquently on the Eucharist. The most important function of a priest is to consecrate the bread and wine. What is with Corapi? He is letting down a great number of people who looked up to him.

Perhaps folks that had stopped doing so could give EWTN some support and consideration now? They are really hurting for funds and have done nothing wrong in this whole Fr. Corapi matter.
I don’t see how making EWTN go off the air could help anyone but the devil. And it would be quite an accomplishment for the devil to pull not only Fr. Corapi down but EWTN off the air as well, all with this one scandal.
I continue to pray for Fr. Corapi and EWTN.
 
I gave more and will try to do so in the future…they brought me back with Mother Angelica starting the ball rolling and I am grateful. (just re-reread her biography)
 
I wonder what is more important to him (Corapi) than changing the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus? Or will he always be able to do that for as long as he lives no matter what happens to him?
