Fr John Corapi has Announced in a Video Message that he is Leaving the Priesthood

The link to his website is working now. I am so glad he is not releasing those voice messages/tapes or whatever they were. To say he isn`t doing it because of his fans not liking it and it would be poor marketing is engaging in speculation

Well, Father Corapi seems to be working on his new projects as a secular preacher under the name of Black Sheep Dog and handling his properties.

I myself need to get back to work as I have many bills to pay and “promises to keep,

Before I start focusing on other matters, I want to ask; am I correct to understand that Father Corapi’s actual filing of the defamation lawsuit has stopped the Church proceedings which leaves him in the permanent position of suspension? After the civil proceeding, rather he wins or looses, can Bishop Mulvey continue his investigation and evaluation of the information given to him? Or is it that by the very fact that Father Corapi interrupted the process, it will not be picked up again? Even if he wins the defamation lawsuit it would be disrespectful to the Bishop to present him with a secular decision as if that annuls his authority.

In other words, as it stands now, is Father Corapi definately requesting to be laicized? Can he remain permanently suspended or will a decision be made sooner or later about his standing regardless of civil proceedings?

It seems as though Father Corapi was confronted with the possibility of not being able to preach publicly for a very long time if ever and has chosen to leave the priesthood to do what he thinks he does best - preach. But, he will loose many people as they were looking for Jesus to begin with.

Any thoughts or understandings?

  1. Kidnapped - least likely
  2. Blackmailed - possible but less likely
  3. Demonic influence like obsession or possession - not enough information to tell

Having someone visit him and confirm his situation would do much to eliminate most of these possible scenarios. These are not my guesses. They are based on guesses from many of the blogs I’ve read lately.

I was unaware of this allegation against Corapi until today. And that same thought jumped into my mind too. From a crummy past, Corapi had a miracle and embraced God, and in turn God entrusted him to become a priest with the special gifts and responsibilities that come with priesthood. Corapi is the kind of guy to take God’s gift and run with it; did this lawsuit, accusations, and politics cause Corapi to become disenchanted with God and Catholicism?

Corapi’s devotion to Our Mother, St Padre Pio, and back-to-basic Catholicism enthusiasm and drive is just tossed to the side now, just thrown away with two hands? Is he going into exile due to jealousy from peers and superiors for his passion and popular messages?

The whole thing doesn’t pass the smell test. Something isn’t right, it just doesn’t add up. A large piece of the puzzle is being withheld at this time, possibly a piece of the truth, and when that it revealed, all of us will be able to sit more easily with Corapi’s situation and decision.

I think he has a pretty vivid imagination and he got carried with it. But it is stuff like that which can close a thread. The problem here is that we are in essence solving a mystery and we dont have enough clues or maybe better putting together a puzzle without all the pieces. Just need to remember while we cant or shouldn`t ignore the facts that we do have that are staring us in the face people need to be careful and differentiate between logical conclusion you can come to using the facts we have and stories we can get out of those facts by letting our imaginations fill in the blanks.

Long story short: Independant 3rd party has seen Fr. Corapi’s military records, and he’s never been to SF training, nor was he injured, as he’s said in previous years. He went to Basic, then to Admin school, then to Europe.

Meeither ,seems like the more we know the more bizarre the whole thing gets. Now I would hate to think Fatrher Corapi was lying about his military experience, I often thought he was one for hyperbole but put it down to the natural expression of his personality. Will have to read that link.
 
I’ve started a Novena to The Sacred Heart, for Fr Corapi’s return to the Priesthood.

I have followed closely that fr Corapi is not leaving the priesthood and still Catholic. Unfortunately, Maciel turned out to be a monster who predated on young men, had mistresses who had children and then had sex with his own children. Fr. Maciel was an excellent fundraiser, and created a religious empire of sorts. But look what damage he left in his wake?

Of course, Fr. Corapi has done none of these horrible things, though the money raising is one similarity, as is the John Paul II link. But to blindly support him based on his orthodox preaching and ignore his other, current actions, is foolish.

At this point, I could care less if he had sex with women or did drugs. What I am concerned about his is cult of “fans” and the division he is creating in the church. I care about the scandal he is causing (if he hadn’t spoken publicly, none of us would ever know about the letter this woman wrote - unlike Fr. Corapi, she wrote it to the bishop and never made it public nor attempted to clear her name when Fr. Corapi accused her of being crazy, a gold-digger and an acute alcoholic.

As others have mentioned, his rants are disjointed, contradictory and sound very strange. He speaks badly about the bishops and allows his “fan base” to call the bishops devils.

*I was not going to say this on this thread but have changed my mind.

I love EWTN and watch it often. I have many friends who loved Fr Corapi but I myself could not understand why. First of all I found him boastful and a show off. That put me off. Then when he began to colour his beard I thought gosh what for! Vanity obviously. It only made him look worse.

I wonder if he is reading this thread. I wonder if he cares that he has hurt many people. I think we should all pray for him. I know I will as from today.

I am sorry that you feel confused. You are not alone. Many people feel hurt, betrayed, angry and shocked. I hurt for him and everyone. I found a quiet time and space to pray and every thing was alright. When I pray, I experience the presence (not always) of Our Lord Jesus and Our Blessed Mother Mary and I experience an internal peace that is out of this world. I just try to keep focus on Our Lord and as for the rest; I do my best. There are religious and priests that have been tempted to do much more alarming things and we can pray for their salvation. I would recommend that you just pray and ask God to grant you peace.

Today, I told my elderly father about that Father Corapi has decided to leave the priesthood and be a secular preacher. He is in a delicate state and may pass away soon and as Father Corapi was his favorite priest I had to think about telling him or not. But, I did, today. He just said that he was a great preacher and gave good advice and wishes that he would have remained in the priesthood. He actually took it better than a lot of people, 🙂 and here I was really questioning rather I should even tell him or not.

We can keep Father Corapi in our prayers and let go and let God.

I thought I was just asking questions based on speculations I’d heard. I was hoping more level headed people here would help me figure it out. My problem is I wear my heart on my sleeve and usually end up trying to work out the problem through discussion. There was no intention to speculate or try to get the topic shut down.

Was I being too speculative here?

St. Joseph’s Communication issued this video begging Fr. Corapi to not be prideful and return to his order and to listen to his superior and fight this within his orders. Listen to these men. Corapi said he was suspended. He did not say he was leaving the priesthood. He has not been laicized or defrocked nor has he broken canon law. No case has been brought against him in a church court. THESE ARE THE FACTS, not - NOT Speculation! He is free to defend himself as he wishes or blow bubbles for that matter.

I was thinking about this a lot yesterday. You are right, he often noted that his “greatest gift” was that he did no care what anyone thought. This is probably the biggest testimony that something has gone grossly awry, since it is quite clear from the recent communiques that he is very much bothered by what people are saying, specifically the authorities over him, and his accuser.

He also often said that God made him a preacher because he needed to hear the messages on an almost daily basis. I wonder what it would be like for him to sit and listen to some of his own talks?

He also often said he did not want to be a preacher, and gallavant around, but preferred the quiet life of solitude and prayer. I am puzzled why, since he was placed on leave, he did not take advantage of the invitation that he return to the community and engage in the quiet contemplation he always craves. I pray he will do this, and go back to the center of his gift - teaching the Truth without concerning himself with what others have to say.
