Fr John Corapi has Announced in a Video Message that he is Leaving the Priesthood

I just watched Raymond Arroyo’s World Over with a short piece on the Fr. Corapi Controversy. From it I learned that his community strongly wants him to live in community, which was mentioned here. But he wouldn’t. He would have had to give up “everything”. Is this the eye of the needle?
An important thing mentioned is that this is still breaking and there is a lot of speculation. He mentioned going to ncregister.
My heart hurts so I’m going to stop discussing Fr. Corapi.😦
An OT (but still applicable because it’s about EWTN). On EWTN, earlier today, there was a live broadcast of the Pope celebrating Corpus Christi mass at St. John Lateren, and then an amazing procession through the streets of Rome during a beautiful twilight with colors of gold, pinks and purple hues. He gave a Eucharistic benediction with the monstrance.

i want to see the world over tonight with raymond arroyo and see what is said.

i read the latest update and we don’t have all of the information, but father corapi certainly seems to feel there are those who want him out. it is a very sad situation and i can’t imagine how he must feel. i will continue to pray for him.

I was thinking of this same comparision. Since Bishop Sheen is not yet a Saint, it may be a better comparision. He was also a rather flambouent character, but he always lived within the expectations for a priest (ie, not in a private home) and didn’t take extra compensation for his work.

I am very sad to think that there have been several high profile incidents like this in the past few years. It is scandalous to people within and outside the church to see men of God leaving the priesthood in this way.

Let us all say a prayer for all our priests tonight!

I read it and is some record of communication regarding the Green Beret. The url did not change when I linked so I wondered why it would be on the blacksheepdog website.

Give me a break about Sheen! I love the guy but he would never agree with you. He admitted his weakness himself. Have you ever read his books?

Rosalie! I watched that too. Im so grateful to EWTN for bringing such events to us. Normally the Corpus Christi Mass and procession w/the Pope is pretty much a very Roman thing (they even talked about it, with the Holy Father being the only celebrant and it all in Italian; no Latin) because he is their bishop. But Im so glad that this American could sit and partake of it too.

I do every year. I love to watch the Eucharistic Procession thru the streets of Roma. 👍

I have and I happen to know he suffered a great deal and in silence. He has serious run ins with Cardinal Spellman etc.

Did Sheen have a weakness for vanity and things associated with it? You betcha. You are right, he was very honest about it.

However, you never heard him disparage a bishop. The man in the later part of his life suffered a lot behind the scenes but never made it public. Even in his autobiography “Treasure in Clay” he talked about how he knew he could make headlines by talking about the “behind the scenes” rifts and problems with his superiors. But he said he wouldn’t do that.

Not saying anything about Fr Corapi here, but Sheen WAS obedient to the end even in silence. And suffered greatly for it.
 
On the WorldOver Live, the lady from NCRegister who is in contact with the Servant Father (?) Sheehan of SOLT said that he will take him back. I understood that that offer is valid still today.

If I were in Father Corapi’s shoes I would like to have the wisdom to pour a gallon of Holy Water on myself, hop on the next flight to Rome, meet with Father Amorph and take a plane straight to Father Sheehan and sign whatever papers he will request giving up all my property to the SOLT and live in community and obedience. There, Father Corapi will heal and if it would be good for his salvation and it is the will of God he may once again be permitted to preach to the public in communion with the Church.

And there’s the rub. this is why I asked is this the eye of the needle? Not only is he a rich man, but Fr. Corapi has been living in his own home, having his autonomy, his company, his travels and lectures. It might be next to impossible for him to do this, even though it would be salvific (sp?).

Do we not all have an obligation to live out our vocation by virtue of our baptism? If the parish in which he resides is not interested in his service, and yet he feels compelled to pursue his vocation, then he must search for another venue. This does not mean there is anything wrong with his bishop, or with his service.

There are many biblical examples of people of God not being recieved in some areas, so they had to move on to others.

There is one reference to Paul wanting to go but the Spirit had other plans.

I’m not sure how that applies to a cleric under the vows of obedience to his order? Whatever the Holy Spirit wills He confirms through the authority of His Church. If Fr. Corapi is truly being called into an alternate form of ministry, and he has not sought to be released from his vows, then surely his superiors will confirm this?

Edit: BTW, on a related note, I’m very uncomfortable with the term “unleashed” that he is now applying multiple times on his blog. It sounds as though he’s been “bound” by something or someone until now, and has been set loose. Furthermore, the word generally has a negative connotation.

Now perhaps, if I may be so bold, perhaps he’s being called again; to “Leave all you have and follow Me.”
 
This is heartbreaking. I found my way back to the Church almost accidentally when EWTN happened to be included in a cable package we wanted. Mother Angelica and Father Corapi got me into a confessional and were both major factors in my wife’s conversion from Judaism.

We have purchased Father Corapi DVDs. His powerful sermons on Mary (“our Mother wears combat boots”) inspired us to the pray the Rosary more and we do a daily devotion to the Blessed Mother.

My first reaction was to assume that a liberal Bishop was attempting to silence a powerful, outspoken Evangelist for the Magisterium of the Church. But I had made that unjust assumption in Father Thomas Euteneur’s case and will not do so again.

I fear that there is a real danger of Father Corapi’s leaving the priesthood creating more dissention and distrust between the faithful and our, for the most part, wonderful Bishops. The last thing the Church needs at this point.

As sure as I am that Father Corapi would have been man enough to admit his guilt if the allegation were true, like others I find the whole way he has gone about this odd and unsettling. There are a lot of unanswered questions.

I believe that the best thing those of us who have so greatly admired Father Corapi can do at this point is to pray for John Corapi and pray for the Church.
