I can certainly appreciate the tendency to put people on a pedestal, especially when one feels very helped by that person, or even as if their whole spiritual life has been salvaged by listening to that person, as some have testified in their posts. I don’t under understand the last part, though. Can you help me understand what that has to do tiwh “ignoring the mystical body of the Church”?
Believe me, I do it all the time, which I always have to remind myself to keep things in order. God first, God first, etc.
What I meant, is a lot of the tone concerning Corapi about the Mystical Body, is
treating this situation with emotions as if it is a man losing just a job, rather than something occurring within the Church itself; and an otherworldly vocation.
Even though, the bishops might be making bad judgements in his case, in studying the lives of the Saints, all these trials, and chastisements occur, there is a spirit of perserverence…a lot of the sentiments in rallying behind a man, as opposed to trusting that the Lord make straight everything in his mercy and justice concerning his children. Even if we won’t see it, evidently, What if Fr. Corapi is undergoing a chastisement or a trial?? As well as those involved?
Have you ever studied the life of St. Bernadette?
I feel as if many of Corapi people are judging the actions of his superiors as if this is some sort of Secular ordeal/injustice, with a manufactured folk hero status.
While it is true administratively, the Church has its own politics within, Jesus will not leave us orphans. Even though hearts may be hardened in the channels of our Church, God has the ear of the servants within too, regarding their faithfulness…so why should Fr. Corapi in his faithfulness, not have an advocate in Christ & the Blessed Mother if he is in the right?
Corapi does not belong to a religious order. The society (SOLT) is an apostolate that is “in the world”. It has houses all over the world, and the members don’t take the same kinds of vows one does to join a religious order. That is why he was allowed to live in a home of his own while still being a member.
So he may literally not be a religious order, but all of us in some capacity, must be numb to the world. Indifferent to it, for God’s sake. We are to be salt, and light, not blending into the darkness of their ways.
They are mixed, whether we like it or not. We are pilgrims on this earth, and we are “in the world, but not of it”. He is called to be a preacher, and if his bishop cannot tolerate his preaching, then he will have to go elsewhere. He can’t just fail to do what God has called him to do because certain people don’t like it.
It is very difficult, but when we finally get the core of the faith. We’ll never belong to the world, it’s alien…this is why we have the Mass, a recharging and a reminder, of how removed we are, and how we are “sent” to be lights. To suggest, that he can still be satisfied or his direction where he feels he might have a new beginning as Black SHeep dog, is trying to keep one foot in the door of the church, while peeking and looking in the next room, in the door of Manna. I don’t want him to do this.
What if God called him to preach for 20 years and wants him to become a contemplative or to humble him? Remember Moses had a talent as leader, and he made a mistake, because of the weakness of his faith, and was shut out of the promised land…he wanted it.
Fulton Sheen had a great calling and charisma, he had both worldly success…and then,
He was humbled. He said he suffered from the sin of vanity, he was pretty much silenced, as many Saintly people, (though I pray for his canonization) undergo jealousy and resentment by their peers. He also had an understanding of offering up that suffering to Christ – Sheen, however, devoted himself the Eucharist so he persevered. And in that, you’ll see the picture, when Fulton Sheen was embraced during at least I believe a whole decade of sorrow, by Pope John Paul II…while his health was deteriorating and he may have anguished over the erosion of our Church too… in a way he literally laid down and died… in his chapel before the Blessed Sacrament…
Every one is a servant, to please God, no servant is greater than his master. Embrace the cross and hug it, with all your heart. Unite yourself with Jesus’s work… Corapi doesn’t strike me as if he wants to do that . If we are to serve, or hear our calling. There will be crosses. And God even said to Peter, you may be led, where you do not want to go…
St. Francis of Assisi wanted to be martyred, St. Anthony, St. Theresa of Avila had a will or felt an inspiration to be martyred in Morocco. God had other plans.
In Fr. Corapi’s letter, or Black Sheep Dog, as he rejects the title of father for some reason, Black Sheep Dog’s letter, he laments the persecutions and the sins against him, with resentment. Does he really think it’s God’s will to go back into marketeering??
Going into some secular format of preaching won’t satisfy him.
Which is why it’s saddening. I also don’t understand why people have to walk around eggshells, to be blunt about the actions
here, but oh well.
The truth and honesty is hard to hear but it must be said. Jesus did not give us a spirit of timidity.
