Yes, I do believe however sordid and shocking the details are, they needed to be out in the open - because as I said earlier, souls are at stake. Souls of Fr. Corapi’s “fanbase” are in jeopardy because a good number of them were promising to follow him “no questions asked” into his new venture and criticising Church authorities int he process. Souls were being led astray, and because there was still doubt over the allegations, SOLT obviously felt they needed to speak decisively to clarify the black and white of the situation. As Fr. Corapi often said, the devil’s favourite colour is grey.I already posted this on the Corapi/SOLT thread but I’ll repost it here. services.saccourt.com/indexsearchnew/CaseNumberList.aspx?SearchValues=CORAPI,JOHN,ANTHONY,3634107
This is a link to John Corapi case from his 1999 DUI conviction (8 years into his priesthood). Sacramento County lists the names John Anthony Corapi and also John Anthony Coradi. Tony Coradi is the alias he used when first meeting his accuser through an escort service. Jimmy Akin has a podcast on his blog page of the Al Kresta show on Ave Maria radio. They go over a little bit of the information SOLT discovered.
However, as I said earlier, I do believe this is also an attempt to save Fr. Corapi’s soul - the truth is out, with all of this staring him in the face, he has to make a decision now as to whether to return to the SOLT or continue on his course. If he chooses the latter, please God he will have time to redeem himself at some point in the future.
PS. My past is one of sordid sins so no judgement going on here, I’m still praying earnestly he will return to the Father.
