I already posted this on the Corapi/SOLT thread but I’ll repost it here. services.saccourt.com/indexsearchnew/CaseNumberList.aspx?SearchValues=CORAPI,JOHN,ANTHONY,3634107
This is a link to John Corapi case from his 1999 DUI conviction (8 years into his priesthood). Sacramento County lists the names John Anthony Corapi and also John Anthony Coradi. Tony Coradi is the alias he used when first meeting his accuser through an escort service. Jimmy Akin has a podcast on his blog page of the Al Kresta show on Ave Maria radio. They go over a little bit of the information SOLT discovered.
Yes, I do believe however sordid and shocking the details are, they needed to be out in the open - because as I said earlier, souls are at stake. Souls of Fr. Corapi’s “fanbase” are in jeopardy because a good number of them were promising to follow him “no questions asked” into his new venture and criticising Church authorities int he process. Souls were being led astray, and because there was still doubt over the allegations, SOLT obviously felt they needed to speak decisively to clarify the black and white of the situation. As Fr. Corapi often said, the devil’s favourite colour is grey.

However, as I said earlier, I do believe this is also an attempt to save Fr. Corapi’s soul - the truth is out, with all of this staring him in the face, he has to make a decision now as to whether to return to the SOLT or continue on his course. If he chooses the latter, please God he will have time to redeem himself at some point in the future.

PS. My past is one of sordid sins so no judgement going on here, I’m still praying earnestly he will return to the Father.

I have no idea what that page is supposed to be suggesting, but I would like you to remove your post. None of that is relevant to the topic and Fr. Corapi is not charged with using a different name. It does none of us any good to go so far off into the woods as to start posting anything that is written about him.
Do you mean my post? Or the redacted charge?

This is what was confusing about Corapi’s Black Sheepdog persona. Did he not realize that the sheep dog is a tool of the shepherd? He does not work on his own! He takes signals from the Master, does what the Master tells him to do, he is trained and he is OBEDIENT to the Master! He is not a renegade, who is guarding the sheep all alone, under his own authority! No sheep dog works without a shepherd! But his messages all seemed to say that HE was the one who was going to guard the flock, no Master needed.

It’s odd to me that someone who calls himself The Black Sheepdog must never have actually watched sheepdogs work. The sheepdog trials used to be televised but I haven’t seen them in quite a while. Corapi’s order is whistling him in - will he come?
Excellent post. I’ve seen footage on TV of Boarder Collies at work, and they definitely work for the shepherd.

His post ordination misdeeds would never have entered any scrutiny if he had not decided to make his own case public. I don’t agree that they are not relevant. It demonstrates an ongoing pattern of behavior that has only been exacerbated recently. He decided to fight by the sword, now his reputation is dying by that same sword. My only prayer is that the whole mess will drive him back to the foot of the cross.

He did not want to be silenced, but what will he have to say now that is of value to anyone? If he does have brain damage or is in the grip of addiction, or both, attempting to continue a public speaking career will not work anyway. 🤷

I read a post that a sheepdog does not have a job apart from a shepherd. I think this is very true.
Excellent post. Very true.

Thanks for your thoughts guanophore.

Was it Father Joe’s?

fatherjoe.wordpress.com/2011/06/17/father-corapi-priest-or-black-sheep-dog/

(This was before SOLT’s release --so he was being cautionary and reasonably suspect. He was a little more concerned and troubled, than the later entry)

I like seeing what the priests say as they are able to fraternally correct, or judge better.

I think he has the most reasonable what I read without shying away from speaking hte truth, there were other priests blogs defending Corapi and hoping Fr. Corapi would become political for the sake of the church through a loophole. I didn’t think that sounded too right to me.
This is a very good post by Fr. Joe about this situation. I, like many, am heart broken by what has transpired, but at some point we need to seperate the man from the message. At some point we need to call a spade a spade and not blindly follow someone. We are to be a part of One Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, that is what we as Catholics are called to follow, not ONE man that has preached on behalf of the Church and now (in a way) stands in opposition to that Church.

As one other poster put it, we need to be praying for Fr. Corapi and for all those that are now (seemingly) following HIM and not the Church. THIS is what is the saddest part of this whole thing to me. That people are forcing themselves into a side. There should not be “sides” there is the Catholic Church and then everything else…are you on board with the Church or not? I do feel bad for Fr. Corapi, I too, wish that none of this was true, but at some point, we need to take off the blinders and realize that what has been said, what has been documented may very well be true. Fr. Corapi has the right to defend and stand up for himself, I suspect that he may do so, but as a local sports reporter says when comparing sports players…“stats don’t lie” as in this case, “facts don’t lie”

So please, this is not an attack on Fr. Corapi, I am not judging him for what he has done and the sins of his past. That is between him and God, but I do know that as a parent, I am called to protect my children from “bad” things (even at times perceived “bad things”) and maybe this is a time that Holy Mother Church wants to protect us from “bad things.” (That is not saying Fr. Corapi is bad, but this situation, as it stands right now, is not what anyone would call “good.”)

“Rejoice if Father Corapi helped bring you closer to Jesus, and now you can return the favor. Lift him up in prayer.”

Do you mean my post? Or the redacted charge?
The post with his previous DUI charge, and the one that was speculating about his “other name.”

But I see most people want all the information, even if it’s not able to be fact-checked at present. I am not trying to protect him, believe me. I just want people to stick with what is going on in the moment, with the allegations that have been raised right now, not from 2002. I agree that it’s all very troubling, added together, it points to someone who has not been practicing what he is preaching nor being forthcoming about his problems.

May God take away the scales from John Corapi’s eyes today, and send him running back to the cross.

**This is not gossip. There is a woman on facebook who has her photos public and you can see Fr. Corapi in tons of them. She has comments under some of them stating that she has worked for him for 10 years. One pic she calls him her ‘godparent’. 🤷 Under one photo, she threatened a commenter (on May 15th to be exact) that she was going to ‘call the FBI and the Church’ on this person (some lady, not Fr. C). Yes, there’s def an accuser out there and she’s made herself ‘public’ by her own choice.🤷 **

she sounds charming, if this is ‘the accuser’ then the whole case of Father John is indeed worrying.

The dangerous webs that are weaved when one attempts to deceive…
I sincerely think he decieved himself most of all. The rest of us thasat he deceived I don’t for the life of me think he deliberately, consciously decived. I sincerely think he is in the massive, deep denial typical of addicts. Hopefully he will go back to sobriety.

Through the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.

Whatever his accuser has done, what he has done is be disobedient to vows he took to SOLT. Whatever else he has done, he has now put himself in opposition to obedience. That alone should make Catholics’ mouths drop. What he is doing right now is not in any way priest-like, which shows that his order is correct to judge him “unfit for the priesthood.”

I think the key word here is “The BLACK Sheepdog.” Just like the “Black Sheep of the Family.” 🙂
Or “Red-Headed Stepchild.”

It’s time for the Shepherd to “rein in” the Black Sheepdog. 👍

The evil one will not snatch John Corapi or any of us away, as long as we keep our eyes on the Shepherd, and pray for John, and keep ourselves in a state of grace, to be the true warriors that Christ has called us to be.

This is obviously a call to action for all of us, to look into our hearts, and call out to Mother Mary to pray for us, and for Jesus to guide us through this.

Like every single one of you, I am sorely disappointed. But I am not broken. I just feel like I received marching orders. It’s time to seriously pray for this issue, as it involves our whole family.

I agree with your statement totally…

Maybe we should do more praying than sitting around the campfire and continuing saying the same things…😦

The “sheepdog” business had me scratching my head this afternoon. Ironically, priests are the shepherds (pastors), in persona Christi, until the Good Shepherd retuns.

sheep - flock - parish/congregation
sheepdogs - lay leaders (?) who do not act independently of the shepherds

shepherds - priests - men, imperfect, but alter Christus nonetheless
Good Shepherd - Jesus, perfect

If you follow this line of thought a bit more, as you said, “sheep dog is a tool of the shepherd.”

The sheepdog is not on the same level as a shepherd as far as responsibility, activity, or leading anyone anywhere.

A sheepdog acting without a shepherd is…rogue and not serving his proper function. He is not rounding up sheep if he’s not listening to the shepherd, but he’s actually leading sheep away from the shepherd.

John Corapi picked an apt name, but perhaps for different reasons than I’m thinking.

Am I making sense or is it time for a nap? 😊 Thanks for letting me type this out because it’s been tickling my brain today.

:newidea:

Maybe a spark just dawned…He keeps saying “I won’t lie down and die,” or “crawl under a rock and die.”

A rogue sheepdog will be shot by the shepherd. If the dog cannot follow orders and be trusted any more, it must be destroyed. Or it will run the sheep to their doom.

Maybe that is the image that Corapi is thinking of, perhaps without even knowing it, perhaps in knowledge. The sheepdog who is no longer following its master’s commands. And that must be destroyed, put down, must “lie down and die.”

Hmmmmm…
