Please, fellow forum members, let’s not joke about this serious matter. Let’s let it go, there is nothing new here, the man formerly known as John Corapi is “moving on,” as he said in the video, and so should we. There really is nothing more to say. He is not to preach or teach and his order has said that he MUST return and that he is unfit for ministry. Therefore, as far as we are concerned, his book has closed to us. It will likely remain forever a mystery as to what happened to him.

I am going to stop checking in on these threads now. I wish all of you peace, please continue to pray for The Black Sheepdog as he now wants to be known as. I prayed during intentions tonight at Mass, and I will continue to pray for him, for all priests, for Bishops, for his order, the SOLT. I cannot imagine the distress this must be causing them.

But as far as I am concerned, it’s all over with now. Whatever John Corapi/The Black Sheepdog does from here on out is of no interest to me.

. …As much as I worry about his soul, I worry more about the multitude of souls Satan might possibly drag to Hell using Corapi as a tool…
How so ? Given that you appear to have already made light of the situation - a situation where Satan may actually be sifting John Corapi like wheat , I wonder if you might be able to explain in several sentences your words quoted above.

Why don’t you explain to everyone at CAF precisely how Satan is going to or might drag a multitude of souls to Hell using John Corapi as a tool.

Actually, that’s not the topic here. However, SOLT did make clear that one of the reasons they were issuing their press release offering details of the revelations of their investigation was precisely because they, too, are worried about the Catholic faithful being misled by Fr. Corapi’s recent (mis)statements.

Ummm, actually the question was addressed to the one who posted the comment - who so far hasn’t been able to answer it. You don’t appear to have read all of the thread… Instead of trying to change the subject away from a comment which I didn’t post, perhaps you could catch up and read the rest of the thread while we’re waiting for that member to explain themself ?

Just so no one else thinks that question was for them - here it is again in sequence:

Honestly guys , all this thread is missing now is a hammer and several nails, and one or two more people saying, "Crucify him. Crucify him ! "

If you can’t back up or substantiate what you say … why are you posting it ? That’s a question everybody should be asking themselves here. It’s gotten to the point where people who call themselves Catholic are making a sport out of John Corapi potentially being sifted like wheat by Satan.

Earlier in the thread, some referred to John Corapi as a coward for, as they put it “not staying and fighting” …

Here is a better working definition of a coward:

A coward is someone who kicks a man when he is down.

I have never seen so much diverse opinions. Fact is there was a problem and all we need to worry about is ourself. The church and God will sort this out. Just pray for him.

Shoshana clearly I have upset you, that was not my intent. As far as not being called to be Catholic -all of us are called to be Catholic. A better comparison would be marriage. Some go into marriage for the wrong reasons, or too hastily, or without really understanding the commitment.
I’m not saying John Corapi *may *not have been called to the priesthood because of any sins he may have committed. *If *he was not truly called that doesn’t make him a horrible person or a terrible sinner. I don’t want to upset you more. I just want you know I was saying these things to be nasty, far from it. If the reality is he was not called then this would make a lot more sense. Maybe the man felt trapped? Who knows. Again, I’m sorry if I upset you.
The Church has a long and involved process of discernment, and we must trust the HS to use this process to screen out those who are not called, or who may be called, but are not ready, willing, or able.

I am sure he has felt trapped, many times. Don’t you think Jonah felt trapped when he was in the belly of the whale? Feeling trapped does not mean you were not called. It means you have some issues you need to work thru so you can complete your ministry!

Don’t people in an uncomfortable marriage ever feel trapped? Parents with young kids? Or teens!?

Actually, if you read through this entire thread, you will see that I have been posting actively on it for the last several days, my posts sometimes following not too long after your own…Matter of fact, I have been actively posting on all of the threads pertaining to this topic. And my response was directed at you and your comment to El Toro. Not a change of subject at all.

The overwhelming majority of the people posting to the Fr. Corapi threads have been posting about statements either from SOLT, reliable Catholic news sources (EWTN, NCR, etc.), statements from the Bishop of Corpus Chrisit, and even from Fr. Corapi’s own videos and written statements. No one is crucifying Fr. Corapi here. However, there does seem to be a concerted effort by some to enter these threads with the goal of baiting others into saying things that can be construed as just that. Fr. Corapi’s own actions speak for themselves. Those of us who see the wisdom in what the Bishop and SOLT are doing in response to Fr. Corapi’s actions have every right to support the Bishop and SOLT. If you do not wish to support the Bishop of Corpus Christi and SOLT, that is your choice. But please do not accuse those of us who do support them of lack of charity in doing so.

Why don’t you explain to everyone at CAF precisely how Satan is going to or might drag a multitude of souls to Hell using John Corapi as a tool.
Once again, SOLT is concerned about this as well (emphasis mine):

“While SOLT does not typically comment publicly on personnel matters, it recognizes that Fr. John Corapi, through his ministry, has inspired thousands of faithful Catholics, many of whom continue to express their support of him. SOLT also recognizes that Fr. Corapi is now misleading these individuals through his false statements and characterizations. It is for these Catholics that SOLT, by means of this announcement, seeks to set the record straight…SOLT’s prior direction to Fr. John Corapi not to engage in any preaching or teaching, the celebration of the sacraments or other public ministry continues. Catholics should understand that SOLT does not consider Fr. John Corapi as fit for ministry.

There are reasons why a priest leaves a ministry. Here in the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro there are priest who left. For what reason?I don’t know. But one thing is for sure happiness is at stake when one decides.

I agree that it seems to be a dividing topic. We can speculate all we want and rumor this and that. Facts are simple. In the He was told by SOLT. he is nott fit to engage in the sacraments. So we move on. He lives his own life and is responsible to God for his actions. So I suggest we all stop the rumors and hard critic of a fallen man. Yes it is sad but with evil in the world none of us are perfect.

Pray for him and move on.

we should not pass judgement
Yes, we are called to judge actions. That is what we are seeing here - people discussing actions, statements, public information and coming to conclusions in their own minds about how to react to this information. There are some, like me, who did not listen much to Fr Corapi previously. I am trying to piece together a time line and understand proper church response. Others, who did listen to him more, whet to his conferences, etc. are trying to process how a person says one thing and seems to do another to this extent.

Judging is not just negative. Think of judges at contests- say the state fair. They are judging which pie is the best. They do that based against a criteria - sweet filling, light crust, etc. There are criteria for Christian behavior as well. For us as ordinary laymen, and for priests and religious. We need to know the criteria to judge those that meet it and those that don’t - including ourselves! Fr Corapi used to help teach that criteria, but it becomes difficult to follow the teaching of those who don’t follow it themselves. And that is what is causing such confusion and consequently so much discussion.

His Fr. John Corapi page on Facebook has 50,000 fans. That’s a lot of people he might lead astray! He does not “live his own life,” he is an ordained Catholic priest and is under orders to return to his religious community, the SOLT, and stop doing any duties related to preaching, teaching or the sacraments. Any ordained priest cannot simply “live his own life,” as he did not just take a job in God’s corporation but swore obedience to his superiors and to the Church and to God. That’s quite a bit different than you and me. He cannot simply walk away as he is attempting to do, turn in his 2 week notice and move on.

They can be Laicized, somewhat like an annunlment and SOLT said they would help him with that if he wanted it. Many priests get one and get married or just lead a life outside the pulpit.
So in a sense, if he takes that route, he can leave, but it will be much longer than “2 wks notice”.
