I agree that it seems to be a dividing topic. We can speculate all we want and rumor this and that. Facts are simple. In the He was told by SOLT. he is nott fit to engage in the sacraments.
No, SOLT did not, and would not, say this.

The fitness of the priest is not a factor in the efficacy of the sacraments.

He may, and should, engage in the sacramental life of the Church. In fact, many of us are praying that he will quickly engage himself in the sacrament of Reconciliation. 😉

He can celebrate the Eucharist privately, just not publicly.

His ministry is primarily preaching and teaching, and it is this that they are saying he is not fit to continue at the present time.

When he was put on leave on Ash. Wed. he was no longer allowed to function as a representative of the Church in his priestly capacity.
So we move on. He lives his own life and is responsible to God for his actions. So I suggest we all stop the rumors and hard critic of a fallen man. Yes it is sad but with evil in the world none of us are perfect.

Pray for him and move on.

Dg
This is a healthy response. We all need to pray more for our priests. We have little understanding of the pressures they face.

That notice came just in time for me… (* deletes 2 hours worth of replies which wouldn’t have measured up*…:doh2:) .

… Will repost this instead. Concluding transcripts from John Corapi’s latest video statement :
transcript From Blacksheepdog video:Changes and Future:
“ I want to leave you with a final thought … don’t be sad and don’t be mad. And don’t be bitter and don’t be cynical , and love the Church … No matter what ! Remember you follow Jesus Christ and his Church – you don’t follow me ! You love the Lord Jesus Christ and you love his Church, above everything else .

I come way down at the bottom of the list – if at all. And I want to encourage you to keep your priorities straight : Always love the Lord Jesus and always love the Church, because that’s where your salvation lies …”
( @ Shoshana : I’ve appreciated every one of your posts here. Thanks so much . )

I have to take a break , and rest.

Bye all and God Bless .

His Fr. John Corapi page on Facebook has 50,000 fans. That’s a lot of people he might lead astray! He does not “live his own life,” he is an ordained Catholic priest and is under orders to return to his religious community, the SOLT, and stop doing any duties related to preaching, teaching or the sacraments. Any ordained priest cannot simply “live his own life,” as he did not just take a job in God’s corporation but swore obedience to his superiors and to the Church and to God. That’s quite a bit different than you and me. He cannot simply walk away as he is attempting to do, turn in his 2 week notice and move on.
Well, I’m a “fan” of his on Facebook - I just haven’t gotten around to “unliking” his page. As I said before, I am very disappointed. And, as the nephew of a bona-fide Green Beret career sergeant, the allegations that he exaggerated his military record only add fuel to the fire…

We must still remember, of course, that, despite the sins of the messenger, his message was spot on. It kind of reminds me of the story of the infamous Norwegian leader Vidkun Quisling - when Quisling was young, he spotted a number of errors in one of his school textbooks, and wrote a letter to the publisher and author. They promptly made the corrections, and, in subsequent editions, credited the corrections to Quisling. However, after WWII, Quisling’s name became tarnished through his government’s collaboration with the Germans (look up the noun “Quisling” in any dictionary…). So, now, the textbooks in Norway credit the corrections to “a boy” - his name is now anonymous, due to his later sins. Will Father Corapi’s writings and commentaries suffer the same fate?

Pio was under quite a different set of circumstances. They did not have this procedure at that time. Do you have any evidence that priests have been vindicated since these new procedures were implemented?
I haven’t read the whole thread yet, but in my experience every single priest in our archdiocese who has had accusations has been proven guilty since these procedures have been implemented. In St. Louis, several priests have been accuses and shouted their innocence. Computer searches revealed pornography and improper emails. The Church makes an investigation as to the credibility of the accusation before suspending a priest. Our Deacon, who is on the board for the victims in our Archdiocese, says, sadly, almost 100% are true.

Look at Philadelphia. The archdiocese was complicit. Cardinal Rigali was our archbishop before being moved to Philadelphia. When Archbishop Burke came in 2004, he really cleaned house.

We need to weed out the bad priests. They give scandal.

I think that perhaps John Corapi doesn’t honestly know exactly yet what he wants to do in his situation and is still confused. During a debate about the Laicized question and if he was seeking it on his facebook page, it must of hit a nerve and Corapi jumped into the comments and posted “I am not seeking to be Laicized”. However all actions outside of what he is doing since this post point to he is. I don’t think you can really have things both ways. He simply can’t keep dancing around all the questions and yet simply move on by drawing the line in the sand as he states in his video. If he doesn’t give people the answers they want and simply moves on what else can honestly be assumed about this all. Maybe John really doesn’t know what he’s doing and as it seems to be his actions show that of confusion right now. Who would of ever thought he’d be in this mess he’s in and I find it upsetting that he evaluates listening to his order under obedience as crawling under a rock and dying. That’s a poor statement to all the people who are at the community living there. It’s a poor statement to all the people such as Mother Angelica’s and her sisters who adore Christ in the Eucharist 24 hours a day at the shrine to say they choose to crawl under a rock and die. Not so. If it wasn’t for all those adorers, the world would be in a bigger mess than it is right now. It seems clear as of now that he doesn’t really want to let go of his public ministry and the fans. I’m sure anger and bitterness has a lot to do with it. Even if John left everything he had and went to SOLT shouldn’t he be truly happy already at this point that he was blessed to do what he did for the last 20 years? He’s accomplished so much already that at this point it shouldn’t matter. I truly hope God will change his heart on this matter, because I know I can’t do a thing.

The part I find upsetting is that he seems unwilling to do it. If God is calling him to do this, then he needs to set the example. In his preaching, he has taught (rightly) that God’s will can be assumed under the will of one’s rightful authority (superior). Now he has been directed to return to SOLT, so he is in disobedience.

I do understand that he believes (and clearly history has shown this to be the case) he is called to public preaching. For a person so called, they are compelled to fulfill their gift. If he secluded himself and tried to live a contemplative life it would not have been a right response. One must act according to one’s call to be fulfilled. Right now, God is calling him to get out of the public eye, return to the community, and keep silence. If he wants to call that “crawl under a rock and die”, so be it, but that is what he is called upon to do right now. If God wants him to return to preaching, then I am sure it is possible, but not without obedience first.

I agree, even if he went to live a contemplative life now, the 20 years may be all that God intended. The refusal to accept this, and to embrace his life as a priest, even if he is being defamed unjustly, does not set a good example to the flock.

Thanks. Agree. It’s crazy that if you were to even hint of anything whatsoever that could be or might be wrong with Corapi’s choice on his Facebook page or his blacksheep dog facebook page you’d burned at the stake on that website. I think his facebook page is outright out of control and thanks to social media and the way it encourages everyone to express their opinion it causes more chaos. I hate to say it, but his supporters are glued to Corapi as if he is the most important person in the world. I actually see two sides on his facebook page. You have the Fr. Corapi side now in which people are asking him to listen to his order and come back and you have have his Blacksheep dog page where strictly his fans are saying onward! Rock on Fr. Corapi! The whole situation is causing so much drama and I can’t imagine that Fr. Corapi would not know this. He does, even though he said he is going to be drawing the line in the sand this week and never intends to talk about it again. He said in his latest video, he doesn’t want to have a career on controversy, but that is exactly what he’s doing. It will be intresting to see how he is simply going to move on when the last few months all he’s been doing is being on the defense of things. Every single post so far that he presented on the blacksheep dog page has been him defending himself. I haven’t seen any moving on. Instead he leaves his facebook page up and creates chaos, while not being clear on his defense. I don’t know how this is the Holy Spirit when all I’ve been seeing is chaos online with no end in sight.

I really hope there is something SOLT can do, like get an injunction, so that he has to shut down his websites, ALL of them, because he IS still contacting and may as well be preaching to his followers. I suppose someone could sue him in civil court and get an injunction against the websites. Of course he is creating more scandal this way, maybe he is hoping that SOLT and the Church will finally just get tired of the whole mess and drop it or kick him out or whatever. If he really wanted to cooperate in any way, the very LEAST he could do is stop the websites, but he said in his video that he is going to be adding radio and podcasting. Isn’t there anything that the Church can do??

Some of the posts attacking the defenders of SOLT are so profanity laced, it makes me wonder why the BSD doesn’t do a better job of monitoring. Below is a sample. It’s from the top of the comments section, so it’s pretty easy to catch.
Hey jack. ***. Fr corapis superiors are corrupt. Haven’t u figured that out yet? Get a damn clue, jackass.
Michelle. Dont worry about it. These negative people are likely just people who hate the Church and despise Fr corapi because he is orthodox and outspoken. Perhaps they are even being paid by Fr Sheehan or SOLT. They are just spouting off ******** with nothing to back what they say. Let them bark like dogs all they want. Everyone knows they are nimwits.
This makes me very grateful to the mods here at CAF.

I don’t thinks they can get a legal injunction. As a US citizen he can still set up any blog he wants he has a right to freedom of speech. I think SOLT has done what they can.

A number of years ago I saw the Larry King show with a man, (don’t remember his name) who claimed to be a functional priest, even though he married a woman, and had his faculties removed.

He was canonically not correct. But according to US law, he could claim to be Napoleon if he wanted. We have the right to free speech.

Fr. Corapi is the one moderating his own facebook pages. He claims that he doesn’t want to make a career off of controversy but letting these types of comments continue says otherwise. I see a contradiction with statements he said in his latest video such as “you don’t follow me, you follow Jesus Christ and his Church” but at the same time he’s promoting his autobiography and announcing all his new plans online to minister to people. It just doesn’t make any sense. The way it looks is he will just ignore all the real questions about his situation and simply move on. I don’t think the questions will ever really go away and the longer he keeps all this up the more controversial it will be. Imagine for a moment if this was to happen in the late 80’s or early 90’s before the social media become popular online. You have to wonder if this would’ve been the soap opera it is today. I think he knows exactly what he’s doing with technology and he’s using controversy to promote himself at this point in his life since there isn’t any other option. This is one of the issues that comes with being popular in the world we live in today, I wouldn’t wish it on anybody.

The point you make and the example you cite bring up the inescapable truth about the nature of all internet material as there are hackers, imposters, trolls as they are called of all descriptions ,there are spammers, scammers, cyberspace anarchists, hoaxters, spies, blackmailers, extortionists, manipulators…in short deceivers of all makes and models. But you blithely state without any reserve that 100%!!! of all the priests accused were shown to be guilty of having pornography and “improper emails” and the inference is obvious that you somehow know that Father Corapi is guilty as well of the allegations of that nature that he was accused of. Take it from someone who knows probably less than than even you seem to know about the internet; any internet evidence that is being used against Fr. proves about as much about his guilt or innocence as the blog material you pointed to proves that it emanated from one of his supporters.

My point is not to prove Father guilty by reason of his supporters’ venomous attacks. Many of his supporters (including myself) are praying for him to return to obedience. I was just kind of shocked that offensive posts are not deleted as they are on most comment sections.

There was nothing “blithe” about my post. It is a fact, here in St. Louis and in Philadelphia.
and the inference is obvious that you somehow know that Father Corapi is guilty as well of the allegations of that nature that he was accused of.
You are linking separate posts that were made in response different points. I don’t “somehow” know anything. I know that SOLT said he was guilty of sexual impropriety and violating his promises of poverty and chastity.

Agreed. :tiphat:

—END OF AN ERA!

END OF AN ERA

For twenty years I tried to impart the Catholic and Christian Faith through preaching and teaching the Word of God as a Catholic priest. That era of my life is sadly ended, but rather than lie down and die, I have made a decision to continue doing what I can to inspire, teach, and give hope to the people living in a time in history much in need of it.

In keeping with this decision, the entire inventory of Fr. John Corapi material will be sold only up until 5:00 pm Eastern time, July 25th, 2011. After that, there will be no further chance to acquire the audio and video material that marked that era. Everything in the inventory will be marked down 50%.

At the end of the business day, July 25th, 2011, the doors to the website www.frjohn.com will be closed. We are moving into a new era, the era of The Black Sheep Dog—which you will be able to find at www.theblacksheepdog.us and on our Facebook page: The Black Sheep Dog. We hope that you will follow me to our new meeting place. All updates, information on my book, “The Black Sheep Dog,” radio broadcasts, etc. will be at the new locations.

I am thankful for every one of you; for your kindness, your prayers, and your understanding. I hope that we can meet again in new places and together move on toward fulfilling our mission. God bless you, God love you, and goodbye for now.

John Corapi

This is a good point. It is certainly possible that all the evidence being cited could have been manufactured. It is also true that the fact finding team are not “FBI” as Corapi noted. I doubt they have the equipment or the expertise to validate the sources like the “FBI” could do. That being said, the quickest and most effective way for Corapi to clear himself would be to cooperate fully with the investigation, and use some of his assets to hire whatever experts he needed. It may be that he did not have the ability to defend himself because there really is no defense.

Yes, he did. And judging by the content and visuals of his latest video message, he wasn’t kidding.
No,he never said that he was leaving the priesthood. He has said that he is still a priest.
He has left public ministry because he was suspended from it.

Well his message was spot on!!! Oh yes totally. And in eternity it always will be spot on. I beleive that a priest is a living example of who he is. A priest is not a 9 to 5 job. It is who you are it is what you are. I always will remember his talks and I have gotten something from his message. 6 years ago I rmemeber having the television on tuned to EWTN I thought I heard Squidward’s voice (any of you who like Spongebob:D) I was in the other room working on something and then I looked and there was this priest talking and I was hooked. I have his personal testimony on CD. It was his talks his testimony that started my discernment. I owe his message for helping me. I want to be a priest and I owe Mr Corapi’s message.
But now he has turned on his message. He has sold out. He is not that message anymore. He is something else now. Just as a divorced family. At one time a husband and wife were one and they had children. One day the husband feels he can no longer be married he gets a legal divorce and marries someone else. He is living in sin, that does not make the children he had any less, they are still his they still have some genes from him, SO with that said his message is still valid and still very much in unity with the Holy Catholic Church. He just isn’t at this time. Let’s hope he will be. I would be very happy for SOLT and for him if he would honor his marriage to the Church! Let’s pray and hope. Scoob.

This is my question, Anthony, so many believe that this evidence they have is conclusive and beyond a shadow of a doubt. If SOLT really believes this, and Fr. is not cooperating with them, why are they “demanding” that he come back to community? Why are they “demanding” that he drop this civil lawsuit? To me, this is not a normal reaction. Why on earth don’t they just cut him loose?
I don’t know. If they are sincere and well-intentioned,they want to save him. If they are insincere and ill-intentioned,they want to keep him from accusing them of wrongdoing, and perhaps get at his money.
That would be the tell tale that Fr. is off the rail at least in MHO. They have been fighting with him for far too long. They needed to make a statement and then cut him loose. But they’re not. They are still trying to reign him in. To shut him up.
Even though I think Corapi is innocent and within his rights,I hope SOLT does not give up trying to reign him in. I want him to return to public ministry, and I hope and pray that he comes to strongly desire returning to it and does whatever he has to do in order to return to it.

Why would SOLT want to “shut him up”? He is probably their best source of income…

What wrongdoing do you think they have done?

He can give his money whereever he chooses. Even if he does return to the community, he can divest it anywhere. They don’t have any claim on his income.

What possible motive would they have to post those details?
