Paddled him, and sent him back outside-to break yet another window.

When is enough enough?

Is there a shortage of Priests up there? Is Heresy better than nothing?

Holy Cow.

God Bless.

Took the words right out of my mouth…yes, I live in the Archdiocese and yes, there is a shortage of Priests. Does the end justify the means though??:nope: We in the Chicago archdiocese have a heavy cross to bear with this situation. Possibly we don’t know the whole story, but man oh man, how humiliating!!!

Probably the toughest thing about being a bishop is to be constantly be receiving potshots from both the front and behind. It’s a miracle they can find anybody willing to accept the office.
So true, and even worse for the Pope!

I haven’t written him any letters, though. Just discussing here.🙂

The reason Burke had these problems is because he dealt with it swiftly and decisively. St Stan’s is in schism, and and some members of the original board are begging Arbshp Carlson to let them come back into the Archdiocese.

Maybe Cardinal George is afraid of a real confrontation. I don’t know.
Do you honestly think that Cardinal George is afraid of confrontation? The man who had no qualms sending out a letter about the problems of the health care bill?

I think we need to keep in mind that there are many factors at work that we simply do not see. I have no doubt that Cardinal George has far more information on the whole thing than I do. Obviously George did something, because Fr. Pfleger issued an apology (of sorts).

That’s quite a charge there. I would be very hesitant to start accusing Cardinal George of lacking courage.
Really? I wouldn’t. He will reach mandatory retirement age in less than 2 years. This is a problem that he will leave his successor because I don’t think he is courageous enough to seriously discipline Pfleger and he doesn’t want the backlash from the liberal media.

Archbishop Burke still had things like the problems with St. Stanislaus Kostka Church happen on his watch. Every bishop has issues to deal with.

Priests are individuals with their own thoughts and ideas. No matter how good a bishop is, he can’t control every action and spoken word of every priest in his diocese. I don’t think it would be good if he could do that.

The fact that we got any sort of apology from Fr. Pfleger is indicative that Cardinal George is taking this very seriously.
Completely agree with you.
Great post - thanks.

Agree.

Again, agree. It’s so easy to take shots at bishops. Seems some folks love doing it.

Good to know you feel free to accuse a Cardinal of lacking courage.
Guess you have some in-the-archdiocese connection that allows that?
Guess you’re also above the laws of charity that prohibit such accusations?

Wow you came down harder on these comments then a priest preaching Heresy from the pulpit.

Isn’t accusing someone of acting uncharitable because they made an accusation a little ironic of a statement?

I completely agree. We are just having a discussion here. My opinion, for what it’s worth, is since he is Archbishop of Chicago, it’s his call. I just THINK he should have acted more boldly. If Catharina wants to shut down all discussion, which is what this is all about, she should take us to the mods.

Could you please substantiate your response?

Thanks for clarifying.

This thread is so similar to the locked thread on Father Pfleger.
It quickly devolved into ‘Bash the Bishop’ as the other one did.

We are clearly called to pray for our bishops.
That is Church Teaching.
We are not called to mock them, insult them, deride them -
although doing so might make some feel quite superior.

I’m saying nothing different from my posts in the last thread.
We are called to pray for our bishops.

What a non-apologetic apology.

Let’s see if the Cardinal will check into Fr. Pfleger’s masses as well, now that he’s made them public.

If he had one bit the ounce of courage that Archbishop Burke has, it would never have come to this.

What a shame.
**Discussion? Really? **

It’s my opinion, and I stand by it. If you want to call me uncharitable, take it to the mods.
Your conscience can/will speak to you regarding that. My opinion is irrelevant -
other than the fact that we are called to pray for the leaders in our Church, e.g., BISHOPS.

Implicit in your reply is the assumption that people who disagree with you are not praying. This is the Year of the Priest. Believe me, I’ve been doing special novenas all year. From knowing many of the posters here, they are praying too.

Also praying for strength and courage to stand up for what is right.

Perhaps I have derailed the thread by criticizing Cardinal George.

What I really should have been addressing the the heretical BEHAVIOR of Fr. Pleger. Whether or not the Cardinal corrects him. A lot of what he says and does do not reflect church teachings and are downright malicious. I would expect better from a man of the cloth.

Priests too. After all, this is the Year of the Priest.
All are Priests, even our Pope.
John Paul II used to refer to himself sometimes as a Priest-while Pope.

Now, the Pope has asked for Penance:

Fast to strengthen your prayers!
