Friardchips,I do not know that you are stating a belief of the Church. We are not moulded in Mary as far as I know.We ask for her intercession from time to time and request her prayers. She cannot violate our free will either. Mary is not a goddess or anything and the Church only allows great veneration of her. Jesus was not a disciple or saint! He is God incarnate!
Everything I have said is from the Roman Catholic viewpoint. ‘Moulded’ is fine. As I said.
‘Time to time’ is the beginning. Any suggestions that you have made about me saying Our Holy Mother is a goddess is from your mind, not mine.

If you wish to learn there are plenty of threads on this subject, writers to read up on, and a rich history of learning resources in order for you to explore.
Grace comes from God alone though Mary and the saints are powerful intercessors and they do distribute graces as God sees fit. Mary is our mother and Queen of heaven though we strive to be like her in obedience and purity she cannot mould us into anything. We have free will and God does not violate that.
I suggest you read up on some saints, cjforj. And consider their relationship with Our Lady. Best putting all into our Holy Mother’s hands than participate in needless vain striving.

Grace moulds us. All grace comes from our Creator. Our Lady is the dispenser of this grace. Our Lady is not just the Queen of Heaven, she is also our Mother (the Mother of the Beloved Disciple - us all, if we accept the invite for her to be so that was given us each at the foot of the Cross). It cannot be denied that the information is all there in Catholic documents so please have a look and I hope you find this helps to make your faith journey even richer. I can’t help you anymore on this other than to state the info. is all there.

DEVOTION TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN

971 “All generations will call me blessed”: "The Church’s devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship."515 The Church rightly honors "the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of ‘Mother of God,’ to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs. . . . This very special devotion . . . differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit, and greatly fosters this adoration."516 The liturgical feasts dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian prayer, such as the rosary, an “epitome of the whole Gospel,” express this devotion to the Virgin Mary.517
Devotion to Our lady does not in some abstract way substitute love for Our Creator with Our Lady, neither does it take any love away from Him, neither does it divert from or damage in any way our relationship with Him. The path of Total Consecration to Our Lady pushes those who undertake this devotion closer and closer and closer to Our Creator because Our Lady is the most sure and quickest way to His Heart.

Again, the resources are out there.

Best putting all into our Holy Mother’s hands than participate in needless vain striving.
…and you might be surprised to discover that the above perspective would be how most if not all Catholics with a devotion to Our Lady view this way when comparing it with other optional bumpy paths to stumble down! 👍

It has been suggested that the 100 years demanded by Lucifer in Pope Leo XIII’s prediction, did not necessarily begin at the time of Satan’s apparition in 1884 but with the satanic intervention in history of Rasputin in Russia in 1917;
Edward, could you tell me where you saw this? I’d love to look into that.

…and you might be surprised to discover that the above perspective would be how most if not all Catholics with a devotion to Our Lady view this way when comparing it with other optional bumpy paths to stumble down! 👍
Well I believe that devotion to Mary is essential but if you attribute qualities to her that only God has then you are in error. She is NOT the only way to God.If you believe so then you are treading very thinly into believeing exactly as yoga teaches that Kali or the Shakti goddess brings you to god. Jesus told one of the holy saints that not only devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, but some prefer the Cross or the Sacred Heart devotion. Mary can only do what God requires because her will has always been united to God.

The resource I use most is our Catechism and though devotion to Mary is essential she is NOT a goddess and cannot do anything against your free will.To give up your own free will and expect Mary to fix your life is futile.God expects us to be WILLINGLY obedient to the Church. The Church allows for great veneration called hyperdulia but attributing powers to Mary that she does not have is incorrect. She dispenses grace but we also receive graces by the intercession of the saints and directly from God.Otherwise how would people have received grace in the old testament?

I’m still grieving over “from time to time”.

As I said, if you don’t understand then read up on Catholic material.

You have set up a strawman mirage, whether willingly or not, and this is tantamount to anti-Mary proselytizing.

Judging the intentions and faith of posters, and blatently putting words in their mouth, I think is against CAF rules, or so I thought. Worse than that for me is when you compare faith in Our Lady’s Motherly role to false gods…that insult went too far.

I was entrusted to Mary as a child and wore my scapular always.I felt a deep sense of protection and love both from her and Jesus. I was enrolled in the Brown Scapular fraternity quite a few years ago by a Carmelite priest and am never without my scapular because it reminds me of Mary,my mother and mother of the Church,It reminds to to always be obedient as she was too. I do not expect her to fix my life or mould me into the perfect Christian as that is what the sacraments are for.

I do not mean to offend you but to say that Mary is the only one who dispenses grace is false. You can pray to any saint for intercession and they can obtain grace for you.Mary also said to Catherine Laboure when asked about the rings on her finger and the gems that are not emitting light are graces that no one asks for.

I have deep devotion to Mary, but I do read the catechism and understand that consecration or entrustment is done in various ways and all are consecrations to God. Remember what Mary said at the wedding? Do whatever He (Jesus Christ her son) tells you.

The Saints don’t dispense grace. They intercede.

Our Lady is inseparable from her Son. Our Lady is the Mediatrix of grace. Our Lord is the Author of all grace:

*'The Second Vatican Council (Lumen gentium ## 61-62):

… in suffering with Him as He died on the cross, she cooperated in the work of the Savior, in an altogether singular way, by obedience, faith, hope, and burning love, to restore supernatural life to souls. As a result she is our Mother in the order of grace.

This motherhood of Mary in the economy of grace lasts without interruption, from the consent which she gave in faith at the annunciation, and which she unhesitatingly bore with under the cross, even to the perpetual consummation of all the elect. For after being assumed into heaven, she has not put aside this saving function, but by her manifold intercession, she continues to win the gifts of eternal salvation for us. By her motherly love, she takes care of the brothers of her Son who are still in pilgrimage and in dangers and difficulties, until they be led through to the happy fatherland. For this reason, the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Auxiliatrix, Adiutrix, and Mediatrix. This however it to be so understood that it takes nothing away, or adds nothing to the dignity and efficacy of Christ the one Mediator. For no creature can ever be put on the same level with the Incarnate Word and Redeemer…"’

From the Catechism of the Cathoic Church:

'969 "This motherhood of Mary in the order of grace continues uninterruptedly from the consent which she loyally gave at the Annunciation and which she sustained without wavering beneath the cross, until the eternal fulfillment of all the elect. Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside this saving office but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation . . . . Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix."512

970 "Mary’s function as mother of men in no way obscures or diminishes this unique mediation of Christ, but rather shows its power. But the Blessed Virgin’s salutary influence on men . . . flows forth from the superabundance of the merits of Christ, rests on his mediation, depends entirely on it, and draws all its power from it."513 "No creature could ever be counted along with the Incarnate Word and Redeemer; but just as the priesthood of Christ is shared in various ways both by his ministers and the faithful, and as the one goodness of God is radiated in different ways among his creatures, so also the unique mediation of the Redeemer does not exclude but rather gives rise to a manifold cooperation which is but a sharing in this one source."514.’*

So what you seem to be saying is that no one but Mary can dispense grace? If she is the only one then how does anyone else receive grace besides someone who directly petitions her? Remember what she said to St Catherine Laboure? The dark gems on her rings are the graces that no one asks for… If she cannot dispense them except by someone directly asking then how does grace get dispensed to Protestants who are our brother but do not ask for her intercession?

you say

The Saints don’t dispense grace. They intercede.

Then later you say the quickest way to the heart of Jesus is through the INTERCESSION of Mary? So Mary both intercedes and then decides how to dispense graces? This is becoming very confusing.

I understand the Church venerates Mary under the title of Mediatrix, but how does that differ from intercession?

I’m maybe not explaining myself well.

The Saints intercede to Our Lady as Our Lady is the Mediatrix of Grace, the Advocate of Grace, and she appeals to our Saviour. This ‘appeal’ is hardly a long administration process because Our Lady is inseparable from Him who IS, the Author of all graces. So, Our Lady does and cannot do anything outside of our Creator’s Will. As from the Cross, or in fact, really from her “fiat”, because her role has continued in Heaven to be New Mother, we are the Beloved Disciples called to take her into our home and hearts. Now we have the story of St. Faustina who shared our Saviour’s desire for the prayers of the Divine Mercy. Now mercy comes, as does forgiveness, from Him alone. As I posted before though, St. Faustina was only accepted at a convent called: ‘The Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy’. So I believe St. Faustina was always in Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart.

All this about Our Lady is not hard to believe, because:

Our Lady was the devoted, Immaculate Handmaiden of the Father, on earth.

Our Lady was the devoted, Immaculate Mother and Disciple to her Son, on earth.

Our Lady was the devoted, Spouse of the Holy Spirit, on earth.

So, taking this into account, we can see how inseparable Our Lady, Queen and Mother is from our Creator seeing as her saving action of perfect discipleship has not ceased in Heaven. And how, because being Full of Grace, equips Our Lady with the power to dispense these graces as she permits, because she is merciful and loving, and because this has already been willed by our Saviour, the “divine source” of all mercy.

This Beloved Discipleship is open to the grace Our Lady sends, from the “divine source” of all grace, to mould us also into perfect disciples, as perfect as we can be on this earth, in the footsteps of Our Holy Mother, in order that we can tend to her Son as she did. In this way, moulding, is a necessity. There is no greater gift to present to her Son than traits, found in men, of her.

I personally believe that there is no greater gift to pay to her Son than to honour His Mother, because if we do that, we will, I believe, be given all these other things as well. I also believe, that those who are close to her Son, have probably already been prayed for, by His Mother. This is because of the order of grace. The problem people have with trying to understand is probably partly due to the fact that we attempt to limit the reaches of Heaven by our own limited earthly thinking and find it difficult to conceive of such miraculous gifts, such as to be given our Saviour’s very own Holy Mother, who continues in Heaven, tending to her Son’s sheep. Because ultimately, this is tending to Him.

I am definitely not the best person or necessarily the right person to be explaining this to you so if anyone wants to take over I’d happily step back.

I’m truly hoping oneday soon there may be revealed a fifth Dogma. This is what the world needs to hear right now - good timing and right placing, IMHO!

The Saints intercede to Our Lady as Our Lady is the Advocate of Grace and she goes to our Saviour. This ‘going’ is hardly a long administration process because Our Lady is inseparable from Him who IS, the Author of all graces. So, Our Lady does and cannot do anything outside of our Creator’s Will. Thank you Friardchips for trying to explain this.I appreciate the effort yet I cannot understand the purpose of asking intercession from the saints if Mary is the only one who can dispense grace.

I sort of understand your clarification though when you say it is the GRACE that actually moulds us and not Mary herself.I can comprehend that very much because I always understood the spiritual womb as being Holy Mother Church.

I have also studied the 5th Marian Dogma and how many are petitioning for the Pope to declare it though neither St John Paul 2,nor Pope Emeritus Benedict saw a need for it.I believe Pope Benedict XVI said it was not clear and also just was a repeat of the same titles we already use. I think it would also cause MUCH confusion with Protestants to call Mary a Co Redemptrix. They could misunderstand that as not meaning “woman with the Redeemer” but equal to Him.

I think an apparition called The Lady of all nations actually requested this dogma be declared and that it would be done on May 31st though what year is unclear.

You’re welcome. Yes, I can see how confusions might occur.

Just keep praying and asking questions (in prayer too!) about these details. I am not good at explaining this understanding at all well and I think some on this site would have made it perfectly clear to understand without too much hassle. So my doing. Maybe you could start a thread as you will get excellent responses from some.

And I wish you the best with your devotions. Getting our heads around things are just part and parcel and sometimes it takes time. But persevere. And as you’ve stated before, and quite rightly, that trying to be docile to our Creator’s Will is very important. Thanks for nudging me also on other points getting me to think more accutely. I also believe that to look to the CCC, which you do, and put trust in it, is an excellent attitude to have as it shows a trusting respect for the pronouncements of the R.C Church :aok:

Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut. Very sobering. Pretty much all you wrote I have read and thought about yet you organized it well and came to the perfect conclusion: Live every day as if Jesus was returning that very day, avail yourself of the Sacraments, and read scripture. God bless

I think this seems correct. 👍 I mean, we could say Our Lady moulds us, because this is what mothering does, it moulds children, and wombs nourish, and if Our Lady is dispensing graces to us, then she is moulding with the grace, but this doesn’t take anything away from what our Creator has in mind for us, because it is the grace of our Creator, from our Creator. I think of the miracle as being Our Lady carrying on the intentions of our Creator in the order of grace. All is in His hands. Think of our Creator as the Divine Sculptor. Our Saviour said Himself that dead branches get cut off. Those which bear fruit stay close to the true vine. So our Lady is to mould, to Mother, and shape those Beloved Disciples, to also be souls ‘magnifying Our Lord’. That we may more perfectly serve Him. I don’t see that you need to have difficulty with this. It is not heretical. One is free to devote as much of one’s time as one wishes, if not more! 😉

John 15:15

You are My friends if you do what I command you. 15"No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16"You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.…

I have great devotion to Mary because she is the mother of My Lord who is my friend.

If I want to talk to my friend I generally do not have to do it through His Mother . Sometimes I enjoy the maternal comfort but Jesus says he has hidden nothing from us.

No one is suggesting that you can’t speak to Him, or any of the Heavenly family, for that matter!

Best wishes! 👍
