Gilbert Keith:
The Knights of Columbus made their peace with the Freemasons long ago. This would not have happened if the there had not been a reason to do so. The American hierarchy would have been up in arms if it was wrong to do so.
Where is this documented? Can you please provide a link?

Hello,
I pulled this from another thread:

*Re: Which is the most conservative bishop in Usa?

More on Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz’s letter concerning his list of forbidden organizations, which is why I voted for him as the most orthodox Roman Catholic bishop in the country:

So, that’s good news!*

More good news is that these excommunications were upheld by the Vatican.

Hi, I am latin american

I just wanted to say that free masonry has attacked the Catholic church for centuries.

Masons openly attacked Spain, which was pretty much the only truly Catholic power, all the South American independence “heroes” were masons, and that isnt a conspiracy theory, it is acknowledged by all historians, there is a sense of pride in that.

And Garibaldi, a Mason, was responsible for taking the Papal States from the Pope.

I’m saddened to see the alarmism on this thread. It is reminiscent of the wild accusations made my Jack Chick against Catholics.

As others have pointed out, “the gates of hell shall not prevail” against the church. Instead of worrying about free masonry, you would do better to focus your efforts on your own journey with Christ.

Such concern about free masons only makes you miserable. Let it go and concentrate on what positive actions you can do to further God’s work rather than being alarmed at what someone else like the masons be doing in their lodges. They will answer for their actions if they are evil. In the mean time, do good work.

Sir Knight:
Shouldn’t all Christians make their prayers to God “through Jesus Christ”? After all, did Christ say that what so ever we ask the Father in HIS name …

The fact that the Masons do not do this is an area of concern and points to something not being as it seems.
It is meritorious but not necessary.

Contact the Supreme Council there was something about this a while back I believe that it was while Virgil Decant was the Supreme Knight. The councils here will at times have joint events.

While it is true that some Lodges have been used for subversive activity - such as the American Revolution - it is not true to say that the principles of freemasonry are directed against the Church. Some members have done damage to the Church as you cited but it is not directly because they were Masons but because there were bad people. It is like saying that all Jesuits are heretics because Karl Rahner was a Jesuit.

I spoke with my Grand Knight this evening at our monthly council meeting and he never heard of this. Our district deputy was present and he also never heard of it. Can you kindly supply a link or quote a published document to back up your statement?

It’s those darn American Legionarres, and Moose Lodgers that I’m really worried about…

The masonic order is based in England. England has always been the devil’s “centre of operations”, the centre of his overview or grand plan. The antichrist will come forth from England (London, to be precise) in 2013. This ties in with the parable of the fig tree. Maitreya is not the antichrist. He is a masonic decoy to distract Christians’ attention away from the identity and utter perversity of the true antichrist, Tom. Tom is the literal son of satan who is now incarnate (in England) with many demons and is the real head of the SECRET masonic order. The masonic order or freemasonry has brought forth the antichrist. For even in Paul’s day “the mystery of iniquity [did] already work”. Satan through his servants the freemasons is all powerful in the world today and controls every second of what appears on your TV screens (the image of the beast). The beast will be revealed in 2013 and will pose as the son of God and will be accepted by the Jews as such. He will rise to power in England and quickly become an EU leader before being hailed as the global messiah due to his panaceas for the world’s problems. DO NOT ACCEPT HIS MARK!

The good news in all this is that after three-and-a-half years of tribulation Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ will return in 2017 to destroy the man of sin and usher in 1000 years of peace for his elect. 2017 ties in with Sacred Scripture. God bless.

Ummm, I don’t even know how to respond. Bieng as this is xyz’s first post who can tell if he/she is being seious or not???

Honestly freemasonry is a frat house, little more than a drinking club, and volunteer society.

I wont’ become a Mason because the Church says we can’t. But in all honesty I don’t see any threat from Masonry, I doubt there ever was.

Secret societies IMO are a joke and for people who can’t make friends.

I hope that he isn’t serious because if he is then I know a good Doctor who can prescribe some medication …

Pheww I was getting nervous there…

Maybe I’ll get a flight and hotel for 2018 to Jerusalem, it should be safe.

Spoken like a New Yorker.

You are right in that it is a club and volunteer society. However, there was actually very little charitable work and more focuse on degree work than anything.

There is a threat but it is one that is very arcane which has been discussed at length.

Well I join all those years ago not because I couldn’t make friends (that is what college frats are for) but because I was trying to find like minded men who wanted to do good works.

However, really all the fraternal groups except the Knights of Columbus do very little. The Knights last year contributed about 3/4 of all charitable giving and all man hours of charity for all the fraternals in North American combined. So, I am pretty sure I am in the right group these days.

Wow… talk about the dead rising from the grave…😃

And ditto what Mosher said; while when discussed in a certain context, the masons will bill the Lodge as a simple fraternity out to do good works, it is not an entirely accurate characterization, and one which many of the masonic “authorities” would roll in their graves over. The mis-characterization is even supported by such appendant bodies as the free-spirited ANOMS (Shriners) which deliberately refrains from serious ritualistic transmission of philosophy. The only masons I have ever known personally who make such a claim are those who are masons only because it is required to be a Shriner, and as such are not particularly interested in the teaching aspect of Lodge.

The central, binding, aspect of freemasonry is the ritual and the teachings it is designed to convey. Any good works done are an outgrowth of this teaching, not a separate, superior, or divorcable facet of the lodge.

Freemasonry is not just a “social club”; the social aspect derives from the unity of thought engendered by the teachings of the Lodge. Unlike other fraternities that I have personally witnessed or been a part of, the degree work is essential to the character of hte Lodge, not just an empty “protocol” needed to get a new member in the door, as sadly one Knight characterized the KofC degrees on the night of my own induction.

And, finally, I’d like to point out that it is this character, the treatment of the ritual, which distinguishes those organizations rightly condemned by the Church, from the benign social organizations it does not. All have such a ritual, but only some actually pay any attention to it; and so while the masons claim all said ritual descend from them, I would not characterize them all as being “masonic” entities as I understand the Church to use the phrase, such as college fraternities, any more than I’d say the KofC is a “masonic” entity despite clearly holding certain items which many descide are the indicators or defining attributes of being a masonic entity.

I’d also like to see the documentation recording the SC’s attitude regarding the Masons. While I am guessing that it is worded in the same “ecumenical” style of rhetoric as is now common in the Church, I’d take a guess that there is no substantive change in actual practices or final positions. I do recall seeing an article a while back where a local KofC unit was in the same parade as the local Knights Templar commandery, but that doesn’t really amount to much if you really look at it…

And I’d also respond in the negative to the assertion that such organizations are for us poor losers who are unduly silly in temperament and cannot make freinds without such artificial means available.
