ISIS = Islamic State in Syria

ISIL = Islamic State In the Levant (which includes Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, the Palestinian Authority, and Israel.)
Wrong.

ISIS = Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (or Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham)

ISIL = Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant

Attacking an elderly priest and defenseless nuns…
You forgot to mention little children.

This is the ISIS version of ‘winning hearts and minds’.

One can only imagine the type of recruits the Islamic State is trying to inspire and encourage.

Who on earth would want to live in “The Islamic State”?

I wonder if Obama knows what the “I” in Isis stands for?
You mean “Islamic” or “Iraq”?

Seriously, he no doubt does, but like his Democratic predecessor and future First Lady of his successor, he’d say “That depends on what your definition of “Islamic” is.”

They win minds by detaching them from the bodies at the neck.

And when that goes on long enough, they will get genuine conversions, from those in their territory who like having a head.

Meanwhile, our side goes into fits of hand-wringing because prisoners from their side might feel uncomfortable while being waterboarded.

We need to learn to be ruthless and nasty again. Crusades are not won by being gentlemanly.

I agree. I went to the Holy Land in 2014. Some people thought I was crazy. My feelings were we are all going to die, what a place to go!
👍👍

I went there in 09. Some folks thought it was nuts, as the second Gaza War had just ended and why risk my neck?

But we will all need a new neck for everlasting life, anyhow 🙂

Don’t care to enlighten us?
I’ll spoil it for everybody. :)🙂

ISIS = Islamic State in Iraq and Al Sham. (Al Sham being the real-estate lying between Iraq and the Mediterranean Sea).

**ISIL = Islamic State in Iraq and Levant **(same thing)

The key is “Islamic.”

But President Obama has spent eight years denying that the current violence in the area is Islamic in any way.

Where did he do that?

Did you maybe mean that he didn’t use the term “Islamic terrorism”?

Not quite the same thing.

True. As have many Islamic leaders. In fact many have come out and stated that what Daesh is doing is un-Islamic despite what they call themselves. Which isn’t surprising since Daesh is a doomsday cult. Trying to equate them with mainstream Islam is like trying to equate Branch Davidians with Christians. The big difference being that Daesh is simply a bigger, and admittedly more effective, doomsday cult.

And that the BD never had political aspirations nor made killing for its beliefs part of their program. They’d have been long forgotten, had the USGOV not so badly blown its attempt to control them.

Then you probably never will
I know what your point is estesbob.

It’s that moderate muslims understand the problem better that liberal politicians who won’t call a spade a spade because of a misplaced (political correct) sensitivity and fear of offending
‘peace loving spades’.

In Australia, we see a similar syndrome whereby politicians say it’s not ‘about’ Islam and yet - strangely - they beckon moderate Islamic leaders to do and say more.

If it’s not ‘about’ Islam, then what help can be offered by spokespeople for moderate Islam?

Does Mr Obama think that Islamic theology is irrelevant here?

The number of mosques built in the USA has increased by 100% since 9/11. This fact alone deserves much discussion.

Well the percentage of the US population that is Muslim has more than doubled in the same period so that actually makes sense. It went from .4% of the population to .9% of the population are now Muslim.

I have to give Daesh credit where credit is due, it’s a devious strategy. Attack an institution, in this case the Catholic Church, who while largely abandoned by the people is still a part of their cultural fabric. And whose being attacked will incur maximum outrage and backlash against non-radical Muslims thus increasing the number of non-radical Muslims who will be susceptible to radicalization. Wash, rinse, repeat, potentially exponentially. And it has the added benefit to playing right into Daesh’s own end of the world fantasy that “Rome” (read Catholic Church as the largest of the Christian Churches) will eventually bring “its armies” (meaning nominally “Christian” countries) against them in their Armageddon scenario at Dabiq.
