I am a little confused here. I know the eucharist is holy and should not be desecrated. A couple of days ago, my daughter came home from a playdate and told me that her friend’s mom and dad have a “Eucharist Scrapbook.” Apparently, they take the eucharist from special occasions that their family celebrates (Baptisms, First Communions, Funeral Masses, etc.) and save it in a scrapbook type thing with plastic pouches. It’s kept on their coffee table, next to where the dog sleeps. There are other things like Mass cards and wedding pamphlets in the scrapbook too.

So, yesterday I called the mom about something else and casually inquired about the book. I thought maybe she had unconsecrated hosts as decoration - but she said she just goes to communion twice or has one of her kids do it. I am pretty sure that is not allowed. She seemed pretty flippant.

What should I do, if anything?

This is a very grave matter! I don’t even know what I would do in your situation. I think I would call a priest immediately and ask him for advice.

Wow!

That’s very wrong. Our Priest literally has his Alter boys watch everyone take the Eucharist and if they don’t consume it then they will go after the person and have them give the Eucharist back. He usually does this during weddings and funerals.

She obviously either doesn’t understand her faith or just doesn’t care.

Does she go to the same church as you do? I would talk to your Priest and express your concerns.

If she goes to your church, I would just inform the priest. Other than that, I don’t think there’s anything you can/should do.

It would be a little awkward if you randomly called her one day and started lecturing her about it. 🤷

Uh… Desecration of the host is one of the gravest sins. She has already incurred automatic excommunication. Call a priest immediately and ask for guidance, this is a very serious issue.

Awkwardness aside, contact a priest ASAP. This is our Lord and Savior we’re talking about. Being held hostage in someone’s house no less. This lady is holding Jesus Christ hostage.
:sad_yes:
Once you’ve contacted the priest he would be justified in going straight to the Bishop. IMHO.

That’s just weird, and yes something that would shock and horrify any Catholic.

I know I shouldn’t say it but… try to get hold of it. Then inform her Church about what she is doing so she can’t “restock”.

I think you should seek guidance from a priest before you do anything else. Very grave indeed.

Considering the only other thread you started was very inflammatory, I’m beginning to think you like to get people riled up.

At least it seems she was more polite to scrapbook lady than to Protestant Prolife parking lot wanting to pray lady…😛

I’m a little confused here too. The other 7 page (as of now) thread that you began but only posted one time after your first post, where you were accused of being a fake, made it clear that you are extremely vocal and very confident in your knowledge of the Catholic Church. But yet here, you are confused and not sure what to do? A family where your own daughter goes to their house for a play-date, has a scrapbook of hosts out on display next to the dog and you aren’t sure what to do? Your attitude in the other thread implies that you WOULD know what to do in this situation. I mean really, if you thought nothing of publicly humiliating a woman for complimenting you and then asking to pray over you, and you supposedly ripped her apart for not being a Catholic, then I would imagine you would have thought nothing of ripping this mother apart on the phone.

You do bring up interesting topics for discussion though!

My thoughts exactly.

No spoilers!

I remember hearing about this man who received the Eucharist at a Mass officiated by John Paull II, but this is another level of weird. Whatever the other posters recommend, I second.
