So Jesus is married to God so they are “one,” and the Church is married to Jesus so they are “one?”
Ummah means a group with the same mother. It’s describing brotherhood, in a personal, intimate way.
Are they really that different to you in concept? Other than the misconception that Jesus is married to God; Jesus is God which is what The Church represnts; His humanity. The Church is the bride to Jesus in an intimate way by remaining true to His word and deed.
Islam describes the relationship with other Muslims as a brotherhood, while Catholics describe it as one body. Islam describes (human) their relationship with Allah as Master/slave and Catholics describe our relationship with God as Father to children.
He said that he (Jesus) could testify and that God (the Father) could testify. Which to me means that he is not God…
Why couldn’t it mean they are the same? You believe God is all powerful, right?
Why isn’t this plausible? John 5:19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. "
Humans can do nothing of themselves like healing and raising from the dead. Christ was/is a living man. Christ is more than a prophet. The Apostles did those things too, by believeing in Jesus, just as Jesus described his relationship with the Father; God.
God says He leads astray those who want to go astray, so they persist in error. But those who repent and ask for sincere guidance are not denied.
Can you tell me the verse that say it is people who want to go astray? I read them as just who Allah wills to lead astray. The hardening of Pharaoh’s heart as described in the OT is a rare thing and is maybe not so obvious to understand as something God does. I think it is sad you feel God leads even people who persist in error away from him. Do you know the parable of the one lost sheep to the 99 that did not stray?
Well, he was scared. The thing about false prophets is that they are trying to convince you to believe in them. But Muhammad didn’t think he was ready or capable for that mission and he was deeply troubled. But before the cave “encounter” he was seeking God. He rejected the pagan idolatry of his people, and sought out the monotheistic tradition.
Yes, he was scared which is unusual. And wasn’t the reason he was shunned in his home town because he was trying to convince others to believe him? I think people like FLDS leader Warren Jeffs is sincere, and I think the Branch Davidians leader David Koresh was sincere, but it doesn’t really matter since their intent was misguided. Isn’t it even a possibility to you Mohammed was deceived?
Well my exams are over now alhamdulillah.
I hope you did well.
In Islam, a person who steals to feed his family isn’t in the same category as a person stealing for greed. In fact, the Muslim Caliph 'Umar bin Al-Khattab actually abolished the punishment of theft (which is amputation) when he saw the people were stealing because they were hungry–because it wasn’t fair to punish them when they needed to steal for their own livelihood.
That still disturbs me because it alters the very simple command “You shall not steal.” I can rationalize a reason to steal but it is wrong nonetheless.
Killing is similar in Islam in that it gives many justified reasons to kill others.
This is one reason the Church takes such heat for holding strict on things like abortion, women priests and divorce that are not aligned with new social norms. Even if I were hungry I could not see my priest or the Pope saying it was ok to steal. I think I would be forgiven, but it is still not ok. Amputation is barbaric and shocks me that it is so easily legitimized by anyone much less from a self proclaimed religion of peace.
