"Fun" with a group of KJV 1611 onlyists

Frank, your observations are hilarious. I’ve been posting at Baptist.org until I got kicked off yesterday. Every one of the “rules for posting” that you listed is true.

Not only that, we Catholics were accused of being preists and nuns in disguise, inflitrating the Baptist site with our “heathen doctrine”. For some reason it was ok to be rude and insulting to Catholics in the name of “love”.

My favorite is when they will call the Catholic Church every foul name under heaven, rant and rave and call Catholic posters demons and evil devils, say the most vile and venomous things about the Pope, the Bishops, priests and nuns. And then turn around and accuse the Catholic posters of being “downright hateful” when they ask ruthless questions such as: “How can one be assured the canon of the New Testament is accurate?”

I read all your posts. All I can say is that it is a truly lost cause. The people there seem to be so blinded by lies that I doubt that you will ever even be able to plant a seed, let alone get any constructive dialogue. Congratulations for trying though!

I completely agree on this. I lurked quite a bit and at first I thought they were all pretty funny with all their so called truths but as I looked at different threads it was clear that they are absolutely a lost casue. Especially KJV and Deborah, one of the moderators - her vehement hatred is particiularly obvious. She reminds me of a petulant child stomping her feet angry because we will not see things her way and she resorts to name calling!

I can’t remember the poor Catholic who was debating these people, but he referred them to this site a couple of times. Deborah accused us banning people of other faiths for no reason, etc. and all I could do was scream at my computer saying, “Yeah, we do ban people like you who want nothing more than to spew hatred!” There was no one charitable post in the bunch - amazing!
They claim to have the Christian attitude!

In the middle of everything, Deborah came back to say that everyone had to reread the rules - it sounded as though all they wanted to do was to be able to ban the Catholics for defending the truth (in fact, one poster said as much!) while KJV and Deborah, as well as others, were famous for posting vicious, hate-filled remarks and accusations without posting sources or yet when they posted remarks (out of context, of course) the Catholics were not allowed to defend with explanation - it had to be from a named source!

The Catholics there are in a no win situation. My advice, shake the dust off your feet and do not throw any more of your pearls before swine.

I don’t know if you noticed, but I am on my way to being banned by glorybe429 for disrespecting moderators/admins. This basically happened because I ponted out to him that he was not following his own rules. Well, I think I’m ready to go anyways. I’m not the only one he threatened lately. It is pure hypocrisy on his part anyways. Hopefully some of the lurkers will see how mean spirited this individual really is and decide that “this place is not for me”.
 
I guess the only way to get your point across is to SCREAM it. Because they don’t have the fact to back their points up, they resort to name-calling and yelling. Very sophisticated and mature. A five-year-old would be at home there.

MVH, did you see my own thread? lol. These people can’t take criticism or debate. I made one little joke, and they got worked up over it. I really do believe that these forums are no different from various racist forums, as they all use the same tactics(believing they’re more knowledgeable on said subject, even though actual people involved with the subject claim otherwise; using capital letters to shout when they can’t argue;name calling;believing they’re “better” than the people involved w/ said subject;etc.). I’m sure I’ll be banned soon, but whatever, they know they wouldn’t be able to last on these forums…
 
I noticed that the one called “Buzzard” is a moderator. Does anyone else think that the way he posts with different indents and colors is very annoying? Honestly, I can’t follow his logic with the all the distractions. Not that there is any logic to his posts anyway… maybe it’s just me.
 
the moderators are an interesting bunch. They try to employ scare tactics as well as treating the Catholics as children. They give us “warnings”, “one more chance” “OK???”, etc. They make pointless posts(the new “moderators” thread for example) that basically repeat everything we already know they believe. They can’t rely on logic or history to explain their beliefs, so they frequently say “it’s true b/c it is, b/c it’s in the Bible/God’s Word”. lol. I think I saw one person say “i don’t need to research history, b/c i know the Truth, and you don’t know it”. sigh…at least we can explain our beliefs through the Bible, Tradition, history, etc. Belief in God doesn’t mean it’s not logical.
 
These people truly need our prayers. One of their moderators posted a thread warning not to engage in “silliness” as it will no longer be tolerated. :rotfl:
 
Many Bible translation experts note that the King James Version is an Anglicanized version of the Douay Rheims. Since the Douays Rheims came out while they were translating the KJV BIble and was the lastest and greatest translation is was all to tempting to refer to it for difficult translation issues in English of course their are some extreme protestant biases in a few of the passages but since it largely shares a common link to the Douay it actually is not a bad translation alltogether.
But it is just a translation that has errors and biases that affect most any translation.

I think to suggest one of these people that the KJV used a catholic Bible as a cheat sheet would be more than a littel upsetting to these people. The New testaments of each transaltions can be earily similar. THe old testaments vary a little more for some reason.

I’m pretty sure that the Douay Rheim’s OT was finished after the KJV was, but the NT of the Douay was finished before the KJV. I’m not entirely sure, but I think that’s why the KJV & the Douay’s NT’s similar. There’s quite a few passages in the KJV’s NT that are clearly plagiarized from the Douay, but I dunno how much that would matter at all to these folks. From what little I’ve read of that forum, they act a lot like a cult, while calling the RCC itself a cult. I mean, the mods and admins are usually the ringleaders in attacking a person, and aren’t very charitable at all. Really makes one want to leave the RCC. It also goes to show you that their arguments are pretty baseless, because anyone using ad hominem attacks doesn’t have an argument at all and isn’t interested in a true discussion of beliefs, but rather just wants to bash the Catholic faith. Bunch of hypocrites & bigots if you ask me.
 
FCFC isn’t the only site filled with bigots, in fact, they have a rival that is equally bad.

No, and I figured someone would point that out. While on their site I was more than charitable and respectful. I heard them out, and addressed their issues but they wouldn’t give me the same courtesy. 😉
 
I have lurked at that site a little bit, and all I can say is that these guys are off the wall. First of all, they will twist whatever screenname you use into something insulting. Second, anything bad about the Catholic Church is accepted at face value, without any research. For example, someone posted an article about a Catholic Priest being made grand chaplain of a masonic group in Italy. Then of course, they claim that this is proof that the Catholic Church is evil, because they didn’t punish such a priest. Well here are the facts, when I investigated further. Supposedly a priest was made grand chaplain, but they don’t say who he is. If the masons don’t want to disclose his name, there is a good chance that his bishop doesn’t know about it either. How can a Bishop punish someone for a crime they never knew occured? Anyway, I asked the poster to provide evidence that this priest took this position with the blessing of his bishop. He didn’t respond, and I don’t imagine that he will.

For my brief time lurking there, I have not seen one Catholic act in an uncivilized way. The moderators on the other hand, are just off the wall.
 
I just got kicked off baptist.org I think all of us Catholics did too since the topics all look like they have stopped getting new posts. (The Catholic section that is).

I thought I finally found an open group of Baptists only to find they prefer their head in a hole too. It reminds me of a cult. Is there any OPEN Baptist board out there with an OPEN forum on it? Is truth that hard to accept for them?

It’s not really a Baptist tradition to look for the good in all denominations. Baptists came into existence on the premise that the whole Christian world was corrupt and could not be reformed. They started a new church with a new baptism. So you’re looking for love in all the wrong places. You have a much better chance here on your own turf with the Baptists who come by to chat.

This thread is titled “Fun,” but you don’t seem to be having much fun. Small wonder. As I posted earlier, dealing with these people is like kicking the fence at a barking dog. When their childishness descends to the level of twisting someone’s name, you know you’re at least down to the seventh grade level.

Their mentor, Peter Ruckman, displays all of this juvenile behavior. He attracts a certain personality type that apes him. You’d just as well use your face to stop a weedeater. You could do it, but you’d be sorry by the time it was over.
 
The FCFC forum now has a thread that I inadvertently started, stating that Keating is having Catholic Answers members swarm their sight. Of course, someone referenced this thread as “proof”. If the originator honestly read this thread, he/she would know that all we are discussing are the experiences everyone has had with KJV onlyists. I wish I never found that forum. I think I wasted a whole week there. I made my last post over there. I will take the advice of a few of the posters on this thread to throw in the towel. I have become tired of “using my face to stop a weedeater” (to paraphrase Kevan)…

In fact, I am too new to the concept of defending the faith, i.e. apologetics. I read my bible to learn the Word of God, but I have never “studied” my bible like an apologist would to defend the faith. I learned there is a pretty big difference between the two!
