They generally support the GOP. Okay. So, naturally they wouldn’t consider Obama or any Democrat the best man for the job, even if he had a mandate from Heaven itself. QED.
“Naturally,” no. The general trend is to not support the Democrats. Thus they don’t consider Democrats, in general, to be the best man for the job, “naturally”.

Now, whether he had a mandate from Heaven itself would be hard to discern. When was the last time there was a mandate from Heaven that could be objectively discerned?

In general, active duty military support Republican candidates.

So it would seem that in general the lack of support in terms of votes means that most active duty military do not think Obama the best man for the job. It may not rise to the level of lack of trust, but it certainly means less trust than having McCain.

However, among veterans, it gets more cloudy.

I know this from all the veterans and active duty people I know. My Lt. Col. buddy extremely dislikes Obama, and thinks him a horrible CiC. My father, a 30 year veteran, extremely disliked Obama. My father’s friend, and 25 year Army veteran, extremely dislikes Obama. My cousin, a senior enlisted in the Navy, extremely dislikes Obama.

I don’t know a single active duty military person that approves of Obama. And only know one veteran that thinks Obama good for domestic policy, but horrible for foreign policy (a mixed bag).

The anecdotal evidence is overwhelming.
Our daughter, a Combat Medic in the Army National Guard, and her husband, a Combat Medic in the Army (he already gave 4 years’ Service as a Marine-he was the first in Fallujah) are such professionals, they do not speak of the Commander-in-Chief, they just do their job. Our daughter had to rehang pictures down a hall of the Armory after it had been painted (while on her Drill Weekend)—her Commander told her not to spend too much time looking at “that one” (a picture of Obama). He was joking, of course.

While staying with them, I ask-and they don’t really talk about Obama. Our Military men & women don’t dwell on it, they have a job to do and are professional about it.

Always.

Now, the upper Echelon would be a different story (states my husband, a Lt. Colonel Retired from the US Air Force). They, on the other hand, speak amongst themselves (privately) with others in their upper ranks, but never to the troops, or those in ranks lower than themselves.

He retired under Bill Clinton, and hated that, seeing as how Bill Loathed the Military. He hated the fact that Clinton’s name is on his Documents.

He got over it-and moved on.

May God continue to Bless the Brave men and women of our Military.

God Bless.

You accuse other posters of shifting attention from “pro-life” when that topic is being discussed. Well, well, well. I was speaking of the French Army, and you give two examples that don’t involve the French Army, thus shifting away from my point about them.

I’ll keep that in mind when you criticize someone for diverting attention from “prolife.” 🤷
So the next time there is a thread about abortion you are going to remind people that I am pro-life and that i opposed the French shipping Jews off to the Death Camps? Boy that’ll destroy my credibility quick!

Nice piece of work. The IDF can’t be criticized, but the French who saved us during the War of Independence and who stopped the Germans at Verdun are to be made fun of. Look up the Battle of Kasserine Pass if you want to find accounts of another army that was routed and ran away.
I agree… I had relatives from Italy who volunteered to serve with the French in 1914… The Free French forces fought very well in WW2 and if DeGaulle didn’t capture Paris from the Communist underground history would be different today.
The Brits were also defeated at the Battle of France but one never hears jokes about them… why? I have my opinion as Britain is an Protestant Anglo country and France is a Catholic Latin country.

Well, yes. Probably a lot of people understand and even agree with the general’s sentiments. Nonetheless it was a huge mistake to air those sentiments in front of a reporter, and one that, as a powerful career military man, he should have been able to avoid making. And it makes people uncomfortable when their 4-star generals make huge errors in judgement.

Now, me, I’d probably say some of the same stuff (expressed a bit less crudely), but that is one of the reasons I’m really glad that I am completely unimportant and it doesn’t matter one hoot what I say. 😃 If I were a general, I’d have to be more circumspect.

He’s too smart for it to be a mistake. It’s for a reason. It may take years for it to come out-but my guess is, he’d “had it.”

General McChrystal is no dummy. No way!

No accidental blurts from him (like Obama). Nope.

You will see. We all will-eventually.

God Bless.

Maybe the French were counterintelligence during World War (Whatever)…but now?

Second, you are correct, the French ARE pretty nasty. The French ARE the most rude people I’ve ever had to serve (on an airplane) or spend time on their soil.

They’re rude, spit when they talk, and stink. (They may use a bidet at times, but must not have the luxury of the USA of having a bathtub or shower. Or deodorant, for that matters). I know they don’t have the potable water we do (don’t drink it out of the faucet, whatever you do!) You MUST drink out of a bottle!

Just a miserable lot, they are. (But, they have a 4 day work week-you know!)

Their Catholic Churches are empty too, with the exception of some old members, and some tourists. No young French attending Mass regularly.

Sock le blur!

God Bless.

This gratuitous bashing of the French is one of the most uncharitable posts I’ve seen in a long time. I happen to be the daughter of a French citizen (now American). My mother’s entire family still lives there. Her brother, my uncle, was a priest who was incarcerated in a Nazi prison camp during WWII for being a priest.

My cousins all take baths every single day. They wash their hair every day, and they use deodorant. So do all their friends. One of my cousins teaches English in a Catholic school, which is, by the way paid for by the French taxpayers.

My cousin loves the USA so much, she comes twice a year. Once to visit and travel, and the other to bring her students in an exchange program she started with CATHOLIC high schools in the St Louis area. She brings along fellow teachers. She brings her husband and son, who love the USA too. Her son loves to do WWII military enactments. American ones. They celebrate D-day in American uniform (along with a bottle of fine French wine).

They do have potable water, but, like in Germany, they are used to drinking mineral water.

When our students go to France, they are welcomed by and put up by families in Chartres where she teaches. I have never met such a generous people.

The only nasty remark I heard out of any of the teachers was, “There sure are a lot of obese people in the US.”

Back to our regularly scheduled program.

Exactly so. I found more liberals in the Air Force when I served '63 - '75, but most were, alas, right-wing reactionaries.
Now, whether he had a mandate from Heaven itself would be hard to discern. When was the last time there was a mandate from Heaven that could be objectively discerned?
When one comes along, I’m certain that it will be discernable! And, it still wouldn’t matter to the right-wingers in the Services. 🙂

From reading the article, the only people showing discust are some of his subordinants, not him. He is just being petty.

Life is a bit different in ‘black ops’ where he got his training. However, he has been in front of the press long enough that he ‘should’ know better.

By the way, Obama is now talking as if he might keep him on. I wonder if he can’t replace him right now an keep to the schedule he wants in Afghanisan?
McCrystal knew what he was doing and saying… “Why” is $10,000 question.

Again, you are shifting away. I spoke of the French Army, and you make a generalization about the “French shipping Jews.” Yeah, I’ll remember it on “pro-life” threads.

The Poles, who also had a large army, got their bums kicked by the Germans in two weeks, and few criticize them for collapsing so quickly.

Not true. But the Poles did fight bravely. Did you know the Polish army had the last mounted calvary? They charged the Nazi Panzer divisions, throwing dynamite at them.

The Nazis would take the dynamite, light it, and throw it back…

All joking aside, the Poles also have a history of helping Americans in need:

like I said I am sure opposing the French shipping people to death camps will destroy my credibility.

Oh brother.

The French are known for their rude behavior. So, perhaps the general has first hand knowledge, (as I do), about the behavior of the French. A little contemptious? So what!
New Yorkers are rude too. I have first hand knowledge.

It’s remarks like this that really disgust me. Two of my uncles were in the Polish Home Army (AK) and my paternal grandmother was killed (machine gunned, actually) while she was a partisan. Nice to hear “Polack” jokes in light of what I know about them and what the others in the AK did, so many of whom were later killed by Stalin who didn’t want any trained resistance when his toadies took over. 😦

My point is that the Poles collapsed as quickly as the French did, but the French are always the butts of those jokes. As if the Brits or the Americans never ran or were never routed. 😦

Yeah. There’s that girl at Lourdes (for those who believe in such stuff), also René Goupil, and Thérèse of Lisieux as examples. A miserable lot as you say. 🤷
Today, Rich, Today. I wan’t alive back then. I was writing of personal experiences-you should have noticed that, but I guess you didn’t.
No young French? None at all? You’ve visited all their parishes? Go visit parishes in this country. The older people far outnumber the young.
No Rich, I didn’t visit all the parishes in France, mainly the larger ones in the larger cities. Belgium too (especially). Sadly, empty.

Not around here. Our Churches are packed-full of young Parishoners. Like Pope John Paul II stated, the youth are the Future of the Church! Must be God the Holy Spirit at work around here-our Masses are full, and growing.

I’ve lived in Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Colorado, N. Carolina and Texas, Rich. Must be the Charismatic Renewal-Life in the Spirit wherever I go, because the Churches are full of young people.

.

Just look at all the Seminarians-in our Diocese alone! God is working in marvelous ways here!

austindiocese.org/dept/vocations/seminarians.php

The youth are here, just like Pope John Paul II stated they would be!

Thank You, God!

God Bless.

Yeah, lady. I’m from Brooklyn myself and I know all about rude New Yorkers, and can dish out with the best of them. And if you don’t like it, you can…😃
