All of the posters here have been very transparent about their intentions.

We are posting because we feel Christ asks us to share His truth in love. I will be the first to admit, that you make it VERY… VERY difficult to continue sharing in a loving way!

Is your mission to confuse catholics so that we no longer understand what it is we believe? Is our faith so inferior to yours, that you must take it upon yourself to set us on the “right” path?

Being catholic is about more than being “right” or making others choose what is “right.” It is about serving our Lord, living our faith, and being lights to the world of the fullness of the truth. It is about sharing an intimate relationship with our Lord, and partaking of Him, body, blood, soul and divinity through every mass. It is about sharing in communion with all the saints, past present and future, in heaven and on earth in EVERY mass.

It is about sharing Christ to the world. Not condemning the world.

I find your treatment of Ag Not and others who haven’t adhered to your brand of Christianity offensive and cold.
You cannot change the truth to make it digestible to the flesh of mankind. The truth of the gospel is an offense and foolishness to those who are perishing. God intended it to be that way. I’m not so concerned about Catholics, because the remnant within the Catholic Church already knows God through Christ. The same can be said with Protestantism. There is a remnant within Protestantism that already knows God through Christ. However, there are many who profess Christ that are unconverted and do not know God through Christ. This sickness of weak and anemic Christianity is a product of humanism in many professing churches. I speak to Ag Not with an appeal for her to be reconciled to God through Christ. Oh… I want her to know God through the living Christ. Some professing churches water down to essential truths of the Christian Faith that many are perishing because the water downed version is a different gospel that does not save sinners. For the remnant within the Catholic Church, I participate on this site that we would encourage and challenge each other to know God better, and to grow each other in a deeper love and affection for God. It is an iron shapening iron relationship for those who are Christians who happen to be Roman Catholics too. I post this same way on Protestant forum site, and universal religious forum sites. I’d rather worship in an Orthodox Roman Catholic Church over a liberal water-downed protestant church that preaches a form of humanism. Now, a liberal Catholic Church would be another story.

AshleyBelle - I havent come across your posts before but it is a joy to read them.

My conversion from agnosticism to belief began with a series of ‘‘coincidences’’ culminating in my heart being touched and opened by the intercession of Mary the Mother of God.

That first touch was not of hellfire and brimstone, it was not a raging torrent of anger at my life of past depravity, I was not smacked upside the head with a book of rules and regulations and laws. It was love. Just love, and gentleness and kindness.

And it reduced me to tears and made me believe, in that briefest moment of a mothers unconditional loving touch.

This was the spark that ignited the fire of the love of God in my heart.

It's not our job to "discover" or 'discern" the truth. It is to the Church we must submit, because the church is the defender and guardian of the fullness of the truth. God left this truth in his church.. The church is our teacher.
We do not seek truth for ourselves…when we find the TRUTH, not “what we believe” or "our own understandings, but rather, the understandings of the authority given to us. God did not just leave us the truth in scattered remnants for somebody to discover and put together in something called the Bible…and then leave it to us to figure out for ourselves what the meanings in the Bible are…

Truth is not a puzzle…it’s a question of authority. The only people who are “seeking truth” are the people who have yet to find it. Truth is not subjective…when you find truth, you find it or you don’t find it.

This is why we cannot say that Protestants have truth and catholics have truth, so everything is just dandy… We believe protestants can be saved because of the truth which comes from the catholic church.

Protestants seem to have the idea that catholics still need to “seek” the truth…that we need to “search scriptures” for more truth… But they fail to realize, that the catholic church holds the FULLNESS of the truth! What we DO “seek” is clarification and insight, and better application to our daily lives, of the truth handed to us from Christ himself.

If anyone recieves salvation, it is because of Christ’s sacrifice, which was once and for all, for all mankind. We don’t add to the truth and later say that things have “changed” or things were “missing” from the truth. We do not add to the sacrifice of Christ.

But we share the fullness of the truth with all the world, and share it through grace, by faith, working in love.

It is scary for a protestant to claim that anyone has “all of the truth.” Because you believe that there are basic “essentials” to the truth, and the rest is left up to private interpretation. But we do not distinguish what is “essential” and “non essential” without an authority, established by Christ, to teach us the difference!

If anyone is saved, it is by Christ. The state of a person’s soul is not for us to judge. Sharing Christ and loving one another through sacrificial, self giving love, is our purpose.

It is not the Roman Catholic Church that is the defender and guardian of fullness of truth that Jesus promised to believers. God incarnate promised something much superior than the Roman Catholic Church. He told us that the Spirit of Truth would come to us and dwell in us. God dwells in all those who are united to Christ by faith.

The truth of God incarnate promised to us:

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, [6] to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me.

25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. 28 You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me, 31 but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.

What did God in His Holy Scriptures say to us about the “pillar and bulwark of truth”?

All Christians believe they are guided by the Holy Spirit. But we still have hundreds of Protestant denominations…

❤️ Love is Patient

Then you are contradicting the scripture which TELLS us, the church is the bulwark and the pillar of the truth! Not the Bible, not the holy spirit, THE CHURCH.

The church protects the truth. And what is the church? Is it some mystical body of believers, who all believe variations of the truth?

Christ asks the jews in scripture WHY do you search the scriptures?? I am PRESENT among you!! Christ is present, in the church! We share communion with him in every mass!

I just have to express my annoyance here. I spent the time to thoughtfully answer the questions posed by the OP only to have Reformed ultimately ignore my responses and go off on some tangent instead. What the heck?

Okay, let me give the rundown.

Judaizers have come to the newly formed Christian communities in Galatia. They are convincing gentiles there that they must be circumcized in order to truly follow Christ, probably along with observe the laws of kashrut etc. They are doing this based on the OT, showing these young believers all of the special commandments the chosen people of God must obey. They want to know why Paul wouldn’t tell them such important facts!

Paul replies and lets them know that he does in fact have authority straight from God. He didn’t get derivative knowledge from the apostles, no, his knowledge and authority is pure. He did later confirm what he learned with the established apostles. Therefore, he can be trusted. He lets them know that the Law, that mere Law that Moses got from angels has been overturned by Christ, the gospel he received straight from God. To circumcise the flesh is to deny Christ and grace. Gentiles may become God’s people through and because of Christ, apart from The Law (Moses/circumcision, all of those rules by which one had to become a Jew before Christ). If people were to join God’s people through the old ways, Moses’ way, then what is the point of Christ?

This is the whole question of Galatians: how does one become approved by God? Through Moses’ ways, ie ciricumcision, or through Christ and therefore grace?

That is the central theme and question of Galatians. You’re trying to jump the gun and go beyond the text in expanding the understanding of the law as I described above to mean ANY good work. That understanding is not explicit in the text.
👍

I would like to hear a response for this as well:) Great summary of Galatians!

Your efforts benefit the rest of us, nebula, and the lurkers, so don’t despair. You did good work. Reformed is not here to learn, but to preach the gospel to us, and try to get us converted to his Reformed gospel.

I have a question:

Why are we letting a Protestant come on to a Catholic site and, under the guise sharing the Word of God, not only tolerate him controlling the thread with his erroneous Protestant interpretation of Paul’s letter to the Galatians, but also to set himself as the arbiter of who is a Christian and who isn’t? Who is he to say that just because someone doesn’t agree with his interpretation of the gospel (which he obviously equates with the gospel itself) that person does not know Christ? I mean, who died and made this guy king?

Haven’t you people ever been to a Protestant Bible study where this is their common tactic of indoctrinating uninformed Catholics who think they are there to study the Bible, but instead are targets of “sheep stealing” through the transmittal of erroneous doctrine? It’s the oldest shell game in the book.

C’mon people, this guy has only one motive. Show him the door by not participating in the deception.

I prefer to keep pounding him with the truth while exposing his errors.

He loves Jesus and he thinks he is following God’s will.

He is probably closer to the truth than we realize.

If he does not get banned for violating so many forum rules, he may finally realize that what he has been taught about the Catholic faith is wrong. If he gets nothing else but that, it may be worthwhile to put up with the abuse.
The gospel isn’t really proclaimed if there is not a strong reaction against or for it. This is an all Catholic Forum site. ** I’ve stated from the begining that I believe the official Roman Catholic gospel is a false gospel.** But I believe that there is a remnant inside the Catholic Church** in-spite of the official Roman Catholic gospel that is contrary to the Biblical gospel that saves sinners.** I hope that you do indeed will one day know God through the living Christ. Many many people profess Christ as Roman Catholics and Protestants who are still dead in their sins and trespasses. The true gospel is an offense and foolishness to those who are perishing.

Like Matthew 25:31-46 and the rest of the New Testament.
As I’ve pointed out before, the n-Cs generally preach a different and deficient gospel that Galatians 1:8 condemns. (LINK)
25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Which is precisely why the Catholic Church still stands and preaches the original “full gospel” (😃 ) New Testament Christianity after 2,000 years.

In spite of the hype to the contrary (and IIRC) your own faith tradition is merely 500 years old and is unfortunately based upon the fundamental and unscriptural doctrinal error of Sola Scriptura, from whence all manner of other errors have cascaded down as that new wind of doctrines of men continues to blow through their midst. Many other converts from various protestant communities and I have carefully studied to show ourselves approved unto God and the result of that study had been the undoing of our bondage to that unscriptural teaching and ultimately a conversion of heart that led us into the Catholic Church.

My testimony.

Several points:
  1. This is Non-Catholic Religions, a debate forum, so this is an appropriate place for his posts.
  2. His opinion as to who is Christian is actually wholly irrelevant. He’s no more God than we are and so, say what he will, he only succeeds in making himself look judgmental, just as anyone would who made such generalizations.
  3. There are very few uninformed Catholics on CAF and I think that the rational and scriptural refutations do more for Catholicism than they do against our most holy faith because even a casual reader will see how ill founded his arguments are and (if we all have done our job) how soundly refuted they have been by the faithful Catholics here. That helps the uninformed become better informed and that is a spiritual work of mercy. (5 of them in fact if we do this right! # To instruct the ignorant;

To counsel the doubtful;

To admonish sinners;

To bear wrongs patiently;

To forgive offenses willingly 🙂

  1. I’m sorry Brother, but it’s not our place to “show him the door”. If he has violated Forum Rules and Banned Topics then report the post and let the moderators do their job, (and they will), but otherwise we need to be like St. Francis De Sales and counter evangelize him while charitably sharing our faith with anyone else along the way.
Frankly, this guy’s not that good and that’s why I’ve been leaving him to the rest of you because it’s equally wrong for me to try to answer every a-C post, robbing you all of the chance to respond and learn and grow in the faith.

Thanks guano, I appreciate the support :). At least I don’t feel like I completely wasted my time now.

Certainly not. Speaking the truth in love, and defending our faith in humility and gentleness is character building for us, as well as beneficial to our society. If you look at the stats on the home page, you can see that there are often 10 times more readers on a thread than there are posters. Many of them may be suffering from the same misinformation that Reformed has been given, so your answers will benefit them. 👍

Ohh…the true gospel is much older than your apparent claim of 2,000 years. The gospel can be found right after the fall of mankind. Christ is the lamb slain before the foundations of the world. Therefore, your gospel is the new one on the block. 🤷

At least you guys won’t burn me at the stakes!

I cannot recant. It is dangerous to go against consciense and Holy Scripture. 😉
