Amen. Absolutely, we need a new evangelization. It’s only in that that we’ll change our culture. We need to get our hands dirty again, and do domestic mission work. Being “God with skin” for those who are poor, oppressed, uneducated, illiterate, abused, neglected, and ignorant. Only then will we be a Church people want to join.
**The public face of Catholicism is that of the bishops and the Vatican. And to be honest, that’s not a very “wow” kind of image.**I think every Catholic with means needs to get out into the streets, and work as Christ worked, as the Apostles worked, with those society has left behind. Pro-life ministries focused on young women at risk of unmarried pregnancy, supporting and bringing them along. Youth ministries, focused on children growing up in poverty and in broken homes, teaching them hard work and ethics along with academics and eventually religion. Marriage ministries, focused on couples in the “high risk” years for divorce (before the “7 year” itch, for example).
Cut down on the movies, the TV, the shopping, the mindless wastes of time. Be together, be a community, be the Church, “one bread, one body.”
That’s how we’ll turn the tide.
