Game of Thrones utterly repulsive--John Gresser

More like Game of Thrones utterly boring and I’ll be so thrilled when the world moves on to its next dopey distraction of the moment.
Only episode I ever watched was the one starring Bart the Bear II.
We need more shows with live bears, I couldn’t care less about a bunch of half naked or full naked actors playing Ren Faire.

Man, I find these “I’m so outraged” pieces incredibly tiresome. If it’s not your cup of tea, don’t watch it. I’m not sure anyone was ever under the impression Game of Thrones was wholesome family entertainment.

They’re especially tiresome when the show has been running for years already and has had explicit/ immoral content in it since Day 1.

It’s on HBO, it’s pretty obvious it wasn’t going to be a kiddie show.

The writers killed it.
Killed is strong imo, but it was a definite decline in quality. That said, I am sympathetic to the fact that the world they built was so complex with so many narrative arcs and characters that it was going to be basically impossible to wrap it all up in a satisfying way without, like, thirty seasons or something absurd.

Exactly. It was built up with so much hype, there was no way to make everyone happy with the ending.
For myself, while there were parts of the ending I wasn’t thrilled with, it wasn’t anywhere near “bad” enough for me to make a fuss. And I was happy with my favorite character’s ending. That helps.

This article seems like it is coming many years late, almost as if the writer is as slow at George R.R. Martin in finishing his writing. Maybe this is a joke article, and that’s the hidden punchline.

I am proud to say I never watched even 1 minute of Game of Thrones.
The only series I have ever followed
were The Sopranos and Mad Men.

I watched the entire first two seasons. Not because I was interested. Because my best friend was fascinated and wanted to share the wonder with me.
He liked the movie Ingloreous Basterds, too.
And Rocky Horror Picture Show.
And Dogma.
I hated them, each and every one. I watched them all anyway because it was the only way at the time to spend time with him. (We were friends and he was lonely.)
I’m pleased the series is ending and pleased to hear Arya survived and had a good ending.

I loved the story but hated the over the top sex scenes. Like if it was just nudity or the occasional sex scene in context that would be one thing but many moments it felt like porn. I had to stop watching it and just read the cliff notes to see how the story unfolded.

I haven’t watched any of it. Not because of the content but rather I just can’t bring myself to watch any of these new “dopey distraction(s) of the moment,” as you so hilariously put it.

I simply don’t have time. The only new show I really wanted to see for many years is The Sopranos, and I have not even had time for that.

I think I saw one episode of “The Sopranos” and was not that impressed. I also don’t have much time for these shows that go on forever in installments. When I see a movie, I like the fact it has a beginning, middle, and end in the space of two to three hours. When I was young, I used to watch “Masterpiece Theatre” and loved it. I don’t think I would have the patience even for that today.

I really enjoyed GOT. The political commentary was phenomenal as was the themes of betrayal, loyalty, power, freedom, and principles. The violence did not bother me but the sex did. There were pornographic parts that the show did not need. HBO actually started putting important dialogue in the scenes to discourage later cuts of scenes or current Fast forward practices. That is too bad. I FF the porn scenes and read the dialogue on critics sites. The last two season had very few pornographic scenes at all. And a main character refused nudity (funny how after you have money and fame you can afford principles…)

Before the last season and specifically the last episode I had GOT as the second best series of all time. Behind the Sopranos. It is still a great story and series but it has fallen out of my top ten…
I was a huge fan of the Americans and that is a solid two. But unlike GOT it was the finale that pushed it that high. I put several series far above GOT now… That is too bad. They could have even ended it on episode 5 and it would have been better. The last season was notably rushed and lost all logic in the writing. With 1 death in the finale in a show known for decimating main characters they really messed up.

Meh. The show was fantastic.

A truly interesting human interest story wrapped in a fantasy world.

For those that don’t like it. Don’t watch it.
But stop the moral jusgement of those who do enjoy it.

Sopranos was also excellent. Hardly a wholesome show however!

Agreed. I dropped it because of all the sodomitical incest.

I read the books. From what I’ve heard through the fan base, GRR Martin is not even planning to finish the books now.

I enjoyed the books and enjoyed the series but you can tell exactly when they no longer had GRRM’s books to go by. The final season was so rushed and short I don’t think anyone was very happy with it! It became…rush up to battle at Winterfell, the battle of Winterfell, rush to Kings Landing, battle of Kings landing, Danny goes berserk and finally try to close the main characters story lines ignoring many smaller ones. No further character development took place and it went out with a disappointed sigh. Such a shame!
