I have not seen this.
Can you quote the response for me as I may have missed it?

Else perhaps a straw man is being built and needs to be paraded around so we all can see.
If you look, you’ll find examples. Im not going to call anyone out because I’m not interested in beefing with anyone in the thread. Like I said, if people don’t want to watch a particular show, great, to each his own.

Also, I was referring to people generally, not necessarily just people in this thread.

Watching a man have sex with his own sister, however brief the display, counts as pornography to me.
A) they’re actors. They’re not actually related (and they weren’t actually having sex, either)
B) if memory serves, the scenes with those two didn’t show any actual nudity. It was played for shock value, not to arouse the viewer.
C) the incest was presented as deviant and creepy within the show. It wasn’t as though the message was “hey everyone, brother-sister incest is awesome.” Other characters routinely commented on how gross it was.

HBO is mostly pornographic. So is STARZ. Amazon Prime Original is a mixed bag, as are most of the rest.
Hollywood is an open sewer.

I wound up binging the first 7 seasons of it starting in February to finish up in time for the final season. The first few seasons were much better than the last two. I’d say it was an entertaining show, but not really in my top 10 even. HBO shows like The Sopranos or The Wire were leaps and bounds better than GoT.

The sex and violence were much more pronounced in the earlier seasons. Many folks on here seem to have a “clutch my pearls ! !” attitude when it comes to any sexual content in shows, as if they have only watched 50s sitcoms their entire lives. If you have the right upbringing and grasp of Catholic teaching, you know the scenes are wrong but you kind of just move on from there.

Well,Im pretty sure my priest would disagree with you last statement 🤔

I always have a good lol at the ever-so-sophisticated posters.

So with this theory, then classical works of art such as Michelangelo’s David or perhaps Aphrodite of Knidos should both be destroyed? Maybe cancel the National Geographic documentaries off of television because they show remote indigenous tribes with not a stitch of clothing on; ten minutes into one of those and you’ve seen more nudity than all 73 episodes of Game of Thrones combined.

I lamentably reject your accusation that I was rude. There are disclaimers both before an episode airs as well as ratings disclaimers and warnings on other shows and films as well so as to prevent these types of situations. The human body is not something that you should be ashamed of seeing.

The ever-so-virtuous posters are a trip too. People simultaneously pearl-clutching at how depraved something is and patting themselves on the back for never having seen it is pretty rich.

Know you nothing of history? Incest in royal families is a fact that cannot be neither erased nor denied.

The existence of defection can be neither erased nor denied, but I don’t want to watch film clips of people defecating, nor have surprise defecation scenes inserted into my TV viewing.

Tis Bearself said she didn’t like the nudity and sex displayed on GoT. She did not say the series should have been forbidden to be shown.

Comparing GoT to National Geographic documentaries is comparing apples to oranges. Comparing it to Michelangelo’s David is more like comparing apples to gemstones.
And again Tis Bearself did not say GoT should be censored: she said she disapproves of it. Not remotely the same thing.

Did you read what I wrote? Nobody said anything about “destroyed”. If someone doesn’t feel like looking at Michelangelo’s David, or the Sistine Chapel Ceiling, which both are works of art far superior to Game of Thrones, are you going to take them by the arm and drag them in and force them to look at it for X amount of time because you think they’re being namby-pamby by not looking?

Again, stop being so rude and extreme. People are allowed to have different preferences.

I wouldn’t even go so far as to say I “disapproved” of GoT.

I said I thought it was boring and stupid and I don’t enjoy looking at nude actors in TV and film. Or anywhere else. Nudes in great art are obviously another matter. TV and film for the most part is not “great art” and GoT is not, in my book, art of any kind; to me it’s schlock.

I’m not particularly bothered if others look or others don’t, it’s their business, their choice, their occasion of sin, etc. I can certainly understand if others don’t want to look at a nude or a sex scene, for the reasons I mentioned: personal preference, watching with kids, for some people it’s an occasion of sin because they get turned on, etc.

There is no bad publicity for this type of show. I wonder if people taking the time to criticise GOT realize they are just doing the PR for the imminent new film HBO plans to do, in the same universe, that takes place before the GOT timeline or something like that. 😛
Everyone will watch - the sobbing fans, the critics, the new fans.
They have a successful story in their hand and will continue to sell it until it dries.

This show definitely took nudity beyond the beauty of the human body. They showed homosexual sex, training prostitutes in their “art” and even sadism. I can completely understand someone choosing to not watch the show!

I, personally, have no problem watching any of that. I like edgy. To ridicule anyone that thinks different than me is absurd. If some folks know that those types of scenes trigger problems and want to avoid triggers then more power to them. Let’s be a bit more understanding that different people have different tastes. GoT isn’t worse than some shows and isn’t better for it either. Life was probably very much like this show in the variety of sexualities shown. That doesn’t mean anyone must like it or must watch it.

If you believe to each their own, why do you belittle those whose striving for virtue makes this show (or the Sopranos) unpalatable?
I’m not belittling anyone who doesn’t watch it, whether because it’s just not their taste or because they feel it’s an occasion of sin for them. I don’t own HBO stock and as far as I know, I’m not in George RR Martin’s will. If people don’t watch GoT, that’s totally fine by me.

What gets old is any time the show is mentioned, people will feel the need to come out of the woodwork (both here and in real life) to announce that they don’t watch it and it’s so depraved and pornographic. Leaving aside the obvious issues with someone having a strong opinion a show that, by their own admission, they’ve never seen, it just has this weird, holier-than-thou, self congratulatory air. It’s basically just virtue signalling.

Like, I’m not a big sports guy. Generally I think that a lot of people get way too invested emotionally in watching other people play a game. But I wouldn’t find a thread where sports enthusiasts were discussing the playoffs and start announcing “Well, I’m proud that I choose to make more productive uses of my time…”
