Game of Thrones utterly repulsive--John Gresser

Does anyone else feel left hanging with the death of the white walkers? As winter approached and dragons returned, magic was supposed to be increasing in Westeros. Did the death of the Night King end that? Is winter no longer important? I just feel like there should have been more to that portion of the story rather than a dead Night King and all is well.

I quit watching it precisely because I found it the opposite of repulsive. It was alluring, as sin often is. Of course it would be popular, just like Fifty Shades of Grey would be a hit. I could make the most mediocre food, and if I laced it with opium, it would always be popular.

For those that don’t like it. Don’t watch it.
But stop the moral jusgement of those who do enjoy it.
Are we free to pass moral judgement on the show itself if we promise not to judge those who liked it?

Never watched GOT, maybe a couple if seasons of the Americans. Best series of all time: Foyle’s War. Beyond all doubt

That’s all right. There will be enough fanfiction and MarySues out there that would probably fill a couple of hundred books.

You could then do GOT kind of like the old "Choose your own Adventure’ books. Just pick the fanfic that you like best and tack it onto the canon books.

Watching the porn scenes in GoT is equal in my mind to peeking through the keyhold on sexual activities of a couple in their bedroom to watch how they interact as a couple. With all due respect, I find both rather creepy.

I find that almost all broadcast media is verily worthless.

It becomes easier as I age and grow in faith to spurn everything offered by Hollywood.

Those who elect to indulge - fine and enjoy.

I elect to avoid the profane world to the small extent I can. It does nothing for my faith, my life, my peace.

I honestly don’t understand what is offered as “entertainment”. … more troubling, perhaps, is that I do not understand how anyone can be entertained by what is currently offered as such. We have sunk deep and choose to extol that which has no merit.

Fascinating.

I really enjoyed the show and read 4 1/2 of the books. I simply could not make it through a Dance with Dragons. I had no idea what that book was about. I cringed at part of the books and show that were way way off. I know life is complicated, and I guess the series tried to reflect that.

I identified most with Tyrion and Sansa. My hope is they actually end up a real couple…some time in the distant future.

The white walkers were not as well developed as the could have been. This is unfortunate. There was way more story to develop there. Perhaps they just needed to wrap things up. There could not be another season.

If seeing a nude female breast is sending you over the edge, I suggest you see a doctor, then your parish priest.
People have different tolerances for that stuff. I totally get it. If someone thinks it’s over the line for them, I respect that.

But geez, I get tired of people congratulating themselves, as though “I didn’t watch Game of Thrones” is a moral achievement of the first order. Cool, you didn’t watch a tv show. Yay for you.

I have not seen this.
Can you quote the response for me as I may have missed it?

Else perhaps a straw man is being built and needs to be paraded around so we all can see.

I know but there could have been more than six shows! I really enjoyed the series and so wish they would have done it justice in its final season. I’ll live, I guess but it could have gone out with a bit bigger bang rather than a sigh and whimper.

Loved Game of Thrones the television show as well as the books that GRRM has written so far.

This may just be me personally, but it’s wild to me the number of Catholics who cannot watch the show because of prejudiced views on nudity. The sex scenes in GoT were albeit very brief, and nothing was pornographic in any way.

Watching a man have sex with his own sister, however brief the display, counts as pornography to me.

From what I’ve heard through the fan base, GRR Martin is not even planning to finish the books now.
He’s said quite recently that he’s planning to finish the next one. Possibly out in 2020.
Given his track record, I’ve decided not to hold my breath. 😆

Ha! I won’t hold my breath either and it would be wonderful if he did. I’ll believe it when I see it, however! I really want to read his wrap up. I know he informed the writers and producers of the endings when the seasons went beyond his books but I’m sure he had a wee bit more details than the show writers did.

That is not pornography.

It was used to show the evilness of this particular family. As a reader/viewer your not meant to like it.

European royal families married relatives all the time. Egyptian royalty used siblings to keep the blood line pure. It wasn’t right or healthy for the blood line but commonly accepted.

The books used historical events for the story line.

I find it werid that the Sopranos is often mentioned here on CFA as this great show (which it was!) yet GOT is this baseline borderline porno. Sopranos is full of murder, sex, prostitution and drugs.

Um, there are people who have a preference not to watch shows with nudity for various reasons. One might be that they have children who watch with them or for whom they want to set an example. Another might be that they think nudity in films is not necessary and detracts from the show; it’s often a lot more artistic, and even sexier, to leave something to the imagination rather than just have naked parts wobbling about. A third might be that they just don’t like looking at that stuff.

For you to say that it sends people over the edge and criticize/ mock them for a preference is rude in my opinion. I’ve seen my share of movies and TV shows with nudity in them and frankly most of them seem gratuitous, gross, even inappropriately humorous…they don’t “send me over the edge” but I’m likely to yawn and say “Put on some clothes why don’t you” and flip the channel.

The same argument could be used for people who complain about seeing naked folks in the street. One could say, “You have a problem if you don’t like seeing folks naked in the street” just as one could say “You have a problem if you don’t like seeing folks naked on TV.” Both have the same problem: It’s indecent.

“Oh, It’s reality. Are you against reality?”

I’m against ripping a veil that was put there by God. Are folks going to say that Adam and Eve were prudes for covering up after the Fall?
