Tell this to the 23 sui juris Eastern Catholic Churches who catechize through the Divine Liturgy. And not by holding classes during the Liturgy, the Liturgy ITSELF is the catechism. If the priests in your diocese say the Mass is not the place for teaching than I’d ask them to clarify what they mean. Is it the place to hold an RCIA class? Of course not. But it is certainly a place for learning the faith. The two are not mutually exclusive.gin to doubt their Church and their own faith, and end up “accepting Jesus into their heart as their personal Savior” and getting re-baptized by immersion, and will in all likelihood start attending a Protestant church (and also in all likelihood will end up church-hopping as they seek a church where they can be “fed.”)
