Haha! If this guy starts rounding Communists and atheists up and sending them to the Gulag, maybe I’ll move my family to Russia!
I think they touched on it (I read it earlier today and my memory is dim at this time of day.
So…does that mean a gay single person will still be able to adopt a Russian child?
I couldn’t find anything in the article about that.
Single people can adopt too, right?
.
As libertarian-leaning commentator Jason Lewis notes, sexuality is based on behavior, not on what someone looks like.Although I don’t necessarily agree with Mr. Putin, I can see where Russia is coming from. It’s not exactly Western Europe in terms of homosexual equality.
I think it’s a little too soon to be moving from Texas.Haha! If this guy starts rounding Communists and atheists up and sending them to the Gulag, maybe I’ll move my family to Russia!

Russia’s first lady, Svetlana Medvedeva, said that the simultaneous celebration of the secular Day of the Family, which Moscow declared a state holiday last year, and of the Orthodox Day of Sts. Peter and Fevroniya today is intended to revive the traditional Russian respect for the family that is the basis of a strong society and a strong state.
. . . Russia’s first lady has been publicly associated with a variety of Orthodox causes, including the restoration of the New Jerusalem Monastery, and with various senior Russian Orthodox clerics. But her involvement with and remarks about this holiday represent the clearest indication yet of the way in which she sees Orthodoxy and Russian state interests converging.
At the same time, however, she showed political finesse during the interview, noting that “despite the fact that this is a day of memory of Orthodox saints, representatives of the other traditional religions of Russia as well as non-religious people were willingly accepting it,” with the Inter-Religious council “immediately supporting our initiative.”
. . . In addition to promoting strong families in the Russian tradition, Medvedeva said, today’s holiday is intended to teach young people about the importance of marriage and children and to oppose abortion. Indeed, when asked about the specific measures this holiday involved, she pointed to plans for a “Week against Abortions” beginning tomorrow.
Many people, the Russian first lady said, now talk about “the collapse of the traditional family” as some kind of “natural” trend. But she argued that one should oppose that trend with all the resources available. . .
Some of us tend to forget (if we ever knew) that Russia still had the highest abortion rate in the world : 74 abortions per 100 births in 2009 – up from 53.7 abortions per 100 births in 2004 . But it was unbelievably worse in the year 2000 : Russia had 169 abortions for every 100 births ! Russia saw all too clearly the ramifications when abortion fully reared its ugly head . Ramifications which had previously skulked beneath the guise of sophist terms such as “reproductive rights” in order to justify the killing , no longer had a place to hide. Russian politicians realize they had to look the ultimate nightmare and indignity to mankind square in its evil eye : Self-annihilation .The Soviet Union was the first country to legalize abortion, in 1920, but dictator Josef Stalin outlawed it in 1936, seeking to boost births, and it was illegal until 1955, two years after his death in 1953 .
and to hear her say -One of the next steps, she said, is banning over-the-counter sales of the so-called morning-after pill – which she called “poison”.
.“Our two main motives are the fact that Russia is dying out and our religious tradition. We cannot forget our faith,” Yelena Mizulina, chair of the family issues committee that fielded the law, told Reuters. “Despite the long Communist period, it is seen as murder, as a violation of the ten commandments.”
On Sunday, August 14, speaking to tens of thousands of faithful who had turned out for the feast of the Assumption of Mary, Latvian Cardinal Janis Pujats blasted a recent gay pride parade which had taken place in the city of Riga, saying that it was simply a way to “show off…sin.”
“In Soviet times we faced atheism, which oppressed religion; now we have an era of sexual atheism,” said the cardinal to a packed basilica in the small Baltic town of Aglona. The town is home to a shrine to the Blessed Virgin, Latvia’s most popular pilgrim site. Cardinal Pujats recalled this past July’s “Pride 2005” parade–the first of its kind in Riga, which brought out some 50 participants and thousands of spectators. Prior to the parade, marchers took place in an Anglican church ceremony which the cardinal particularly chided.
Now that’s a Catholic Latvian who was speaking in the quote above. That the Orthodox Church in Russia, which is of identical opinion , after being stifled for so long by a communist regime, wishes to support it’s politicians who speak out in favour of life and of the family , is a completely justified Church reaction. As it turns out , the whole reason their leaders can speak out, is that they base what they say on the strength of their convictions. I prefer that any day, compared to the abysmal quote which has come out of the mouth of more than one of this country’s high ranking politicians:“This form of atheism is even more infectious and dangerous, spiritual values disappear in a swamp of sexual irregularity,’ he said. ``Just imagine! Homosexuality is viewed as a value, although it is one of the most serious sins! If gays and lesbians had gone to a church to repent their sins, we would have welcomed it. But this parade was intended to show off their sin. Why did they do it in a church? To show how absurd they are?’ he said.
Says the guy named after Bonaparte!I never thought I’d see the day when Catholics praised this totalitarian despot.
With Russia, it’s more voluntary than China.Highest in the world? More than China?? I know they had a high rate.
Broken clock.I never thought I’d see the day when Catholics praised this totalitarian despot.
Any sane person would be seriously worried about the population of the country halving in the next 40 years. Russian politicians realize they had to look the ultimate nightmare and indignity to mankind square in its evil eye : Self-annihilation .
So even before moral ethics enter into it, Russia has recently been trying to implement abortion laws simply to reverse their population decline – as a means of survival ; of self-preservation. This perspective only serves to stress even more the importance of the family , as the sole solid brick with which to build society. All attempts to undermine the family such as abortion , gay adoption , and their cousins are clearly perceived for what they are: Threats to the family and subsequently a threat to society.
How refreshing then, to hear Elena Mizulina, official for the State Duma committee on Family, Women and Children have enough spine to say they need to ban the “morning after” pill :
and to hear her say -
.
These are people who had to live with government oppression (although our form of government oppression is more subtle, they have a lot to tach us).

Presently, Russia has stricter abortion laws in place – not perfect , but a far cry better than Canada in this regard where we have no abortion law – even though polls indicate that the majority of Canadians are not in favor of abortion. We used to have abortion laws , but an abortion pioneer here who was awarded our country’s highest civilian honor for the slaughterhouses he erected across our country kept breaking the law and getting arrested until one Supreme Court justice ruled “He had no choice but to break the law.”uch:
Although the most recent abortion laws in North Dakota signed by the governor less than 2 weeks ago look promising, the facts unfortunatekly remain that:
That’s plain creepy – people who believe in killing your baby strongly enough to put you up for the night free of charge.
- North Dakota’s population is roughly 700,000 (less than one third of 1% of the entire population of the good old USA)
- New York is the Abortion Capital of America and anyone (including North Dakotans) can still travel to New York City to have an abortion and be housed free of charge .

I don’t get it either. Obama, who has never been a communist is called one all the time. Putin who was an actual communist is praised for doing things like they were done in communist times, except he now has the Russian Orthodox church under his control (which is a very bad thing). This man is not good. If there was a war with N Korea or China, who do you think Putin would side with?I never thought I’d see the day when Catholics praised this totalitarian despot.
. . . Let’s be perfectly clear: parents are the first and primary educators of their children, not the state. Period. This principle is the basis of a free and democratic society. Wrest this authority from parents for any reason less grave than serious abuse or neglect, and you have not simply paved the way for tyranny, but you already have a tyranny. For without the right to educate our children as we choose according to the values we choose, what do we have left? State-imposed orthodoxy. Totalitarianism.
The only difference between the totalitarianism of other regimes and the totalitarianism being imposed by the Canadian provinces is that the Canadian breed of totalitarianism is couched in the Orwellian doublespeak of “tolerance,” “multiculturalism,” and “diversity.” But simply because the language is new and more soothing does not make the reality any less frightening.
We who have witnessed the slow but steady drumbeat of Canada’s soft tyranny know by now that “tolerance” increasingly applies only to those who hold to the official state-sanctioned opinions, or who remain silent; “multiculturalism” is only deemed a virtue insofar as the cultures in question jettison any part of their heritage that might be deemed “offensive”; while “diversity” is mainly a celebration of superficial differences whilst demanding a deeper ideological similitude.
If, as Chesterton says, the family is the ultimate test of freedom, then homeschooling is the ultimate expression of that freedom. For homeschooling is founded on the radical notion that when it comes to the most important things in life – most especially the raising and educating of children – it is the common man who is to be trusted, and not the “expert” or the state. It is not coincidental that this is the same principle that stands at the very root of democracy.
Not only is that what the state is doing here - it’s doing it at the behest of the gay militants/homosexual lobby.By explicitly targeting homeschoolers, and/or by explicitly forbidding the right of parental opt-out, the Quebec, Ontario and Alberta governments have played their hand. They have made it clear that they will tolerate no dissent, and that, as the source and symbol of freedom, they fear the family. Perhaps this all sounds eerily familiar. It should, if you have studied any history. Every attempt to create a totalitarian regime begins with this attempt to eradicate, or at the very least mitigate the influence of the family: to tear the roof off the family home and to reach the fingers of the state inside.
No one ever said that Putin is a great leader. However, he did make a good decision by banning gay couples from adopting children.I don’t get it either. Obama, who has never been a communist is called one all the time. Putin who was an actual communist is praised for doing things like they were done in communist times, except he now has the Russian Orthodox church under his control (which is a very bad thing). Yes I know and to think half the ‘catholic’ vote went to Obama. It’s sickeningI never thought I’d see the day when Catholics praised this totalitarian despot.
