I think they touched on it (I read it earlier today and my memory is dim at this time of day :o ). They rarely allow single people to adopt and they don’t check the sexual orientation when they do so theoretically they could if they kept quiet about it.

Although the media peanut gallery loves to comment on first lady Svetlana Medvedeva’s taste in clothing (jealousy will get you everywhere) , they often neglect to mention that she is also an outspoken advocate for life and family issues and for unifying and healing the nation in this regard. She recognizes abortion for the horror that it is . . . and fortuitously, she also happens to be a devout Russian Orthodox believer. -👍

Some of us tend to forget (if we ever knew) that Russia still had the highest abortion rate in the world : 74 abortions per 100 births in 2009 – up from 53.7 abortions per 100 births in 2004 . But it was unbelievably worse in the year 2000 : Russia had 169 abortions for every 100 births ! Russia saw all too clearly the ramifications when abortion fully reared its ugly head . Ramifications which had previously skulked beneath the guise of sophist terms such as “reproductive rights” in order to justify the killing , no longer had a place to hide. Russian politicians realize they had to look the ultimate nightmare and indignity to mankind square in its evil eye : Self-annihilation .

So even before moral ethics enter into it, Russia has recently been trying to implement abortion laws simply to reverse their population decline – as a means of survival ; of self-preservation. This perspective only serves to stress even more the importance of the family , as the sole solid brick with which to build society. All attempts to undermine the family such as abortion , gay adoption , and their cousins are clearly perceived for what they are: Threats to the family and subsequently a threat to society.

How refreshing then, to hear Elena Mizulina, official for the State Duma committee on Family, Women and Children have enough spine to say they need to ban the “morning after” pill :

Presently, Russia has stricter abortion laws in place – not perfect , but a far cry better than Canada in this regard where we have no abortion law – even though polls indicate that the majority of Canadians are not in favor of abortion. We used to have abortion laws , but an abortion pioneer here who was awarded our country’s highest civilian honor for the slaughterhouses he erected across our country kept breaking the law and getting arrested until one Supreme Court justice ruled “He had no choice but to break the law.” :ouch:

Although the most recent abortion laws in North Dakota signed by the governor less than 2 weeks ago look promising, the facts unfortunatekly remain that:
  • North Dakota’s population is roughly 700,000 (less than one third of 1% of the entire population of the good old USA)
  • New York is the Abortion Capital of America and anyone (including North Dakotans) can still travel to New York City to have an abortion and be housed free of charge .
That’s plain creepy – people who believe in killing your baby strongly enough to put you up for the night free of charge.

The way I personally see it, as much as I love this country , I’d love it even more if we had conscientious functionaries who never would’ve awarded that honour to someone masquerading as a doctor but who kills defenseless Canadians –if we had the wives of politicians who had enough of a sense of conviction to stand up to all the BS threatening the family in my country – who could shut the feminist claptrap long enough to let society hear itself think ; to have some of those leading women whom Russia have.

It might not do the US all that much harm either to have a First Lady like Russia’s – someone who was able to recognize abortion for what it really is, someone who is outspoken on family values. It would carry with it a guarantee that we wouldn’t see her husband parading on to Oprah to declare publicly on national television : “ If one of my daughters makes a mistake, I don’t want her being punished with a baby.” :ouch:

If we (I’m implying myself here too) pay close enough attention, we might learn something here . Although my own dear mother was a self declared “liberated woman” , I observe:

In the political fore, it is the Russian women who are addressing the radical feminist issues and the Russian men who take the lead when it comes to thwarting the homosexual agenda . Man and woman working together, as they are meant to , have complimentary strengths and gifts which become even stronger when they are unified – particularly when they need to form a shield to protect the family.

Say what you want about their shortcomings , but these people appear closer to having 20/20 vision when it comes to matters of the soul of a country. Maybe some of it rubbed off on Latvia – or maybe it was vice versa. Now that’s a Catholic Latvian who was speaking in the quote above. That the Orthodox Church in Russia, which is of identical opinion , after being stifled for so long by a communist regime, wishes to support it’s politicians who speak out in favour of life and of the family , is a completely justified Church reaction. As it turns out , the whole reason their leaders can speak out, is that they base what they say on the strength of their convictions. I prefer that any day, compared to the abysmal quote which has come out of the mouth of more than one of this country’s high ranking politicians:

“I can’t let my personal beliefs influence or interfere with my running of the country” - to which I answer: Then you have no sense of conviction and your principles are severely compromised. It takes almost zero courage to be politically correct.

I don’t get it either. Obama, who has never been a communist is called one all the time. Putin who was an actual communist is praised for doing things like they were done in communist times, except he now has the Russian Orthodox church under his control (which is a very bad thing). This man is not good. If there was a war with N Korea or China, who do you think Putin would side with?
 
Regarding totalitarian despots , it would appear that the oppressor is in the eye of the beholder . We certainly have despots in power here in Canada. The only difference is we vote for either them or someone who appoints them and then they subsequently turn and betray us.

If, as Chesterton says, the family is the ultimate test of freedom, then homeschooling is the ultimate expression of that freedom. For homeschooling is founded on the radical notion that when it comes to the most important things in life – most especially the raising and educating of children – it is the common man who is to be trusted, and not the “expert” or the state. It is not coincidental that this is the same principle that stands at the very root of democracy.

By explicitly targeting homeschoolers, and/or by explicitly forbidding the right of parental opt-out, the Quebec, Ontario and Alberta governments have played their hand. They have made it clear that they will tolerate no dissent, and that, as the source and symbol of freedom, they fear the family. Perhaps this all sounds eerily familiar. It should, if you have studied any history. Every attempt to create a totalitarian regime begins with this attempt to eradicate, or at the very least mitigate the influence of the family: to tear the roof off the family home and to reach the fingers of the state inside.

Does someone think it’s just a handy phrase we use when we refer to defending marriage and the family ?

Russia is trying to do its best to instill family values in their youth again and to reawaken the religious tradition that still belongs to them. And to do this it has made a comprehensive assessment and has drawn an accurate bead on threats to the family - to name two of the most dangerous ones:

Abortion

The Homosexual Agenda

Forget the abstract and talking in theory. The preponderance of evidence from the practical applications is overwhelming and the facts are conclusive :
  • Abortion is a threat to the family and subsequently to society.
  • The homosexual agenda is a threat to the family and subsequently to society.
. . . Not saying one nation is better than the other but, you see Russia agrees with the above and has actually singled those threats out and is doing what they can to eradicate them . . . no , it isn’t perfect yet, but compare that to what the state is telling us here (I’ll just speak for Canada on this one). The state says :
  • It is your God-given right to kill the child in your womb . . . any time you wish.
  • It is the gay militants’ God-given right to commit menticide on other people’s children by indoctrinating them (and “infecting” them, as Cardinal Pujats puts it) with the homosexual agenda as young as 5 years old - against their parents wishes , and if trends continue unchecked, it will soon be against the law to tell your children homosexuality isn’t normal or is wrong.
Neither is it too certain whether Russia would get drawn into taking sides in a war *someone else *decided to start right now . . . It would appear that their war effort is currently concentrated more on re-establishing and securing the safety and sanctity of the family and its place in their society.

I find it a little surprising some people are taking so long to recognize freedom of conscience in action. perhaps we’ve become a little too saturated with rhetoric.

No one ever said that Putin is a great leader. However, he did make a good decision by banning gay couples from adopting children.
 
God bless Russia. This is a good decision. What good is it if we provide an orphan with a lavish western lifestyle, but poison his/her soul in the process?
