Gay Marriage and the End of Christian Civilization

…Back in the 90s when Fr. Paul Marx, founder of HLI, was asked his opinion about the efforts to legalize “same-sex unions” he commented in his usual forthright fashion, "When they do that," he said, ***“it’s the end.” ***He meant “the end” of the Christian civilization whose values used to form the basis of American common life. Fr. Marx, in a prophetic sense, saw rightly that a society cannot survive the perverse manipulation of the very structure of reality that God Himself has revealed to us, one very fundamental element of which is the institution of marriage. When we allow that to be changed-“It’s the end.”…

…Christian decency won and the structure of reality stayed intact, at least in this aspect of law in California, until this week when a single judge just nullified 7 million votes and the will of the people and lifted the “ban” on gay marriage. There was rejoicing in Sodom on the Bay, but how sad for our nation and even for our poor, misguided world that will weaken in its opposition to the homosexual lifestyle as a result of this decision…

…So why, you ask, is gay marriage wrong? Let me count the ways…
…-First and foremost is because it violates the revealed Will of God as seen in Scripture…
…-A close second to this is that gay marriage distorts the very concept of parenting as well as marriage…
…-Third but by no means the last reason, all of society suffers because of the public endorsement of an intrinsically disordered lifestyle and practice. Yes, “disordered” is what our Church calls both the homosexual orientation and lifestyle, and gay marriage simply ratifies that disorder on a social level…

…Fr. Marx was right: a society cannot long survive this kind of violence done to its basic values, and history surely shows many societies like Ancient Greece, whose rapid decline was preceded by the proliferation of the gay lifestyle and its public acceptance…

There is another thread claiming that there are too many threads on homosexuality (and regular sexuality).
Well, yes, there are quite a few such threads. However, if that is what members want to talk about… why not? But perhaps more importantly for this forum, is that the article in the first post is not news but is an opinion piece. This thread probably belongs in a different forum.

FONT=“Book Antiqua”]I agree with his views. Support of gay/homosexual lifestyle can only bring the end of civilizations about. It is not in man’s or woman’s best interest to opt for abortion or homosexuality. They only provoke the wrong effect upon our society.

I don’t really go for this doom and gloom stuff nor do I view homosexuality being the destroyer of society. The idea that we somehow jumped from an amazingly stable and faithful Christian society to some barren wasteland as a result of any singular event seems kind of silly and even a little detrimental to me. Gay marriage is not the first affront to social structures as God intended them, it is merely the newest, and perhaps a little harder to ignore than the previous things. There are goods and evils in the world, and choosing to ignore or downplay either is not really helping anything. As Christians, it is true that we can not ignore the presence of sin and evil in our world, but hope should always be one of our core qualities, we can’t forget that there are lots of good things going on in the world a long with the bad. At the very least let us not forget that there are countries besides the US out there, and some of them legalized homosexual marriages years ago. So far none of these nations is really showing signs of total collapse as a result.

Besides if I had to choose somethings to send such a depressing message with I would put abortion over gay marriages. Legalizing the murder of children simply because we don’t want to be responsible for our actions seems far more destructive to me than simply legitimizing a sinful lifestyle.

I agree, the idea is ludicrously overblown. Is Texas better than Massachusets or Vermont? Compare crime rates or divorce rates. Where is the evidence of the detrimental impact of legal Gay Marriage?

Overblown and false claims like this will not do the anti-Gay Marriage side any good.

If anything the legality of heterosexual divorce has done more damage to the sacrament of marriage than legal homosexual marriage has.

Totally overblown argument. Gay lifestyle has always been around, they just want some equal contract rights. Just can’t get that excited about this.

Any history buffs here who can tell us how long ancient Greece survived after being gay became normal there?

If same sex marriage becomes the law of the land, as I believe it will, than it is just a matter of time after that before all churches will be forced (by hate crimes and discrimination laws) to marry same sex couples.

We are already living in a post-Christian era, this situation just makes it clear.

You can tell it is a post-Christian era when so many people are utterly apathetic towards the attacks on the faith. They do not care because they are not truly Christian.

The problem is, just as it is true that nature abhors a vacuum, so does faith. If Christianity leaves, as it has and is, than something else will move-in and fill the void–that something is not good.

Faith and Morals are dictated through the Magisterial Hierarchy in the Catholic Church. Our Faith does not allow us to rely upon our own personal Emotions (what we think or feel)-when it comes to the determination of Sin.

The world changes-yes. But God is the same today as He was yesterday, and He will be tomorrow. Same God-Same Laws, with the Catholic Church to define and make the determination-as led by God the Holy Spirit-as to what is Right and what is Wrong (Sin). Are some sins more grave-carry more gravity than others?

Sin is sin.
Both forms of Sin (of being unchaste-practicing Homosexual and Abortion) are Mortal Sins.

Dangerous thought-if I relied upon my own thoughts and feelings as to what is Right and Wrong (in all situations)-or even the Gravity of Particular Sins. Here, we have a Wise Priest who knows firsthand the ways of the Devil giving us a commentary as to what this means to our Society.

We would do well to listen to him. And pray for our Country. Sodomy has been the downfall of cities and civilizations in the past…regardless of what the citizens “think.”

The Breakdown of the Family leads to the Breakdown of Society. Father Euteneuer, Father Frank Pavone, Father Corapi, Father Mitch Pacwa and Mother Angelica (all very visible and important) (among others, including our Popes) have been warning us.

Are we listening?

God Bless.

One more point I would like to make-Sin brings death of the soul.
There is the death of the body, and then there’s the death of the soul.
Both Unchaste Homosexuality and Abortion (Mortal Sin) bring death of the soul.

The Breakdown of our Society is obvious-and getting worse. We must all get on our knees and pray for Mercy. According to the Divine Mercy in My Soul Diary of St. Faustina, we are in God’s period of Mercy ~now~ before the Time of His Justice.

We will be brought to our knees-one way or another. God will bring us back to Himself, after He allows us to wallow in the squalor (of sin) we have made for ourselves.

The time will come, when God says, “Enough!”

Father John Corapi says, “Pray! Like the life of your children depends on it! Because, it does!”

One way, or another, we will bend to His Will. Choose to.

God Bless.

forced? but i thought that many churches are already doing that. are they being forced? no. they will find a church that is willing to marry them. just look at the CC in NY. they are all gays. what do you think is going to happen when they can marry?

The left will push for all churches to marry same sex couples, including the RCC. If a church rejects it, than the left will sue until they do. Eventually RCC’s will have to comply by law, or close their doors.

False

What happened in Massachusetts when the CC was forced to allow homosexuals to adopt? What happened to spousal benefits for archdiocesan workers in Washington DC when homosexual “marriage” was passed?
