Jesus converted crowds through public evangelization.
The gospels and Acts of the Apostles show one-on-one evangelization, and public teaching at venues under the control of Jesus or the apostles - as opposed to confronting at a venue controlled by someone else. Confronting a parade where you are almost certainly outnumbered, and the other side perhaps has a permit to be there, is not a show of strength but a show of weakness. It is exactly what our opponents would desire.
The secularists do well in loud confrontations, they love the mob spirit. The Christians do very well in quiet, loving contacts, one on one. We also do sort of well in rallies for evangelism, prolife or the Family downtown, where we control the microphone and outnumber any protesters.
At the abortion clinic we are trained never to yell at anyone on the sidewalk, to be respectful of patient and staff who are walking in, We are a prayerful presence, available to talk or listen. We see only individuals, and occasionally convert them through our persistence, even the ones who see us but have no verbal communication.
We take no action whatever against Crowds, because that is on the Other Side’s terms. Conversion takes place only by seeing the individual away from the crowd. We work from our own strengths, not the other side’s strengths.
