Is there any language in the handbook regarding driving under the influence? Wouldn’t that reflect badly on the church as well?
Could you point out when the Archbishop declared that driving under the influence was acceptable or non-sinful?

I’m not sure you truly understand the issue being discussed here, and are using a personal failing/flaw of the Archbishop to attack him and undermine his promotion of the Christian faith and his requirement that those in Catholic schools uphold that teaching.

The cynic in me sees this as a political move. Cordileone knows that the teachers union will not accept his proposal, and that if it were put into place, then there could be legal concerns over civil rights. He is relying on the Union to block him. This way, he furthers his political career among conservative Catholics and the Vatican, while at the same time nothing changes in the San Francisco schools, which could alienate his local support from actual consumers of the schools.
A political move???

Asking teachers and employees at Catholic schools to not contradict the Christian faith is now a “political move”???

He was stopped by the polis and admitted to have taken over the legal limit of alcohol. i assume you have legal limits in the US. He admitted that he has done this, took the fine and attended confession and indeed underwent penitence for this. What happens with the church of nice is that they highlight irrelevant points to try and put challenges down and then won’t debate. I await a long rambling “DIALOGUE”
Agreed. Few things are as vindictive as the Church of Nice when you actually ask for adherence to the Christian faith.

I would be wary of any Catholic school that did NOT promote the teaching of the Church. Since these activities are contrary to Church doctrine, the Archbishop was absolutely correct in calling their attention to all school personnel. It does not really matter what individual employees (i.e. teachers) might think about the correctness of his comments. If they publicly disagree and teach something contrary to Church doctrine, they should be dismissed.
👍

It’s very telling when someone outside the faith can see the absurdity of the Catholics who are loudly complaining about an archbishop requiring that teachers and employees not contradict the Christian faith.

I suppose we just have to wait for the contracts to be tested in court when the first teacher gets fired. But maybe it would be better to wait for the Christ to return and explain to us and the Archbishop what is so ‘evil’ about contraception, masturbation and homosexuality - he will be here in less than two years, so we don’t have very long to wait.
“He who hears you, hears Me”. - Jesus Christ

“Whatsoever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven. Whatsoever you loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven” - Jesus Christ

“If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.” - Jesus Christ

We already know His view. He invested the Church with authority and sent the Holy Spirit to protect the Church from teaching error. There are more verses if you would like that give even greater support for this.

We especially can’t have Catholic institutions actually being Catholic, now can we?

I’m just curious as to what would be the proper treatment for pagans and tax collectors.

On such controversial issues, …
Why is it controversial? It wasn’t 100 years ago. Church teaching on these issues hasn’t changed. So what changed to make them controversial? Certainly not the Church and certainly not Christ.

I wish they’d realise that Church teaching is hard to accept and it can’t be changed. What’s really sad is that trying to change the immutable and unchangeable laws will result in losing the Faith and losing that is losing everything

Peace be with you,

I attend a Catholic Parish that is very open and supportive of homosexuality. Of the 10+ years that I’ve attended I have had 3 Priests. One removed for inapropriate sexual contact with a minor, one removed with alcoholism (who was the most authentically Catholic), and the current one who is very liberal.

We know we don’t have enough Priests so I’m not sure what we are to expect.
I could not tell from your identifier what part of the U.S. you are.

The devil smiles where and when more souls are led astray, so his favorite target is the priest. If that parish of which you speak is part of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, please let the archbishop know right away. The Bay Area could not have a better archbishop. I would bring it up to the archdiocese even if your parish is elsewhere.

Archbishop Cordileone is a culture warrior. He is a hard hitter and is therefore being targeted by gay advocacy groups, on their radar to play up any story about him for twisting and smearing. He needs our prayers!

Here is the text of his talk, Living the Christian Faith in a Postmodern World. in January 2013.

I saw a report that a gay website charged him with hypocrisy and after his Mother defended him they were nasty towards her. That doesn’t really surprise me because the gay rights movement and their followers have a contempt for the elderly, the unborn and anyone who would dare hold a conservative Christian viewpoint. It’s also the approach of the cowardly bully. I pray for them but I won’t hold back in my criticism of them when they do things like that

You lost me at a contempt for the elderly. What’s that comment all about?

I think that’s being disingenuous. Practically every “progressive, liberal” organisation I come across emphasises “living life to the full” bereft of sacrifice or difficulty. Whether that’s raising a child with a disability or looking after an elderly parent, they have a contempt for that. When’s the last time you saw one of these organisations promoting the respect and care that older people deserve. It’s part of the selfish, ageist culture that we’re living in. My comment is accurate

I think the AARP is rather liberal and it is a watchdog for seniors.

I think you’re being facetious mate. That’s an organisation that’s specifically for elderly people. Maybe I should have been more specific but liberal rights organisations that promote equal rights is what I was referring to. Please stop trolling

Actually going back on my earlier point the AARP promote selfishness from what I can see so they’re another part of the problem. What about people who can’t enjoy this wonderful lifestyle and opportunities due to pain and illness? The last post was a very bad point if it was to contradict my contention

Hold up a second. I’m pretty conservative, and meltzerboy may be slightly more liberal but he is by no means a troll. Your characterization of liberal activist groups is confusing… I never hear gay rights groups talk about the elderly. Or NARAL, or whomever. So that’s where I’m coming from, and I imagine meltzerboy is as well.
