A cigar is just a cigar? I don’t believe that you believe this, not for a minute. In this circumstance I make no declarations; what God says and feels are things that I have no business supposing, and I also have no business making judgments in place of God.
Instead, the purpose of my previous post was to state that homosexuals are, at core, people just like ourselves, and being constructs of God, are deserving of the same moral accommodations that any other human receives. They are people with different wiring, not different people with different wiring.
And, for the record, I thought God viewed all sins as equally sinful - doesn’t that make order an inconsequential?Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
I don’t believe it is anyone’s business to insure the salvation of others; it is to pray that they do, and that they follow examples in accordance.
At any rate, all I can do is live my life with a constant quest for peace and communion with my God.
There is a big difference between judging another person’s culpability before God and judging whether or not a particular action is morally permissible. I don’t believe that you think these are the same thing.
Where did you ever get the idea that all sins are equally sinful? Do you really think jaywalking is equivalent to murder, or that you have no business publicly commenting on the morality of either jaywalking or murder or anything in-between?
“So Pilate said to him, “Do you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have power to release you and I have power to crucify you?” Jesus answered (him), "You would have no power over me if it had not been given to you from above. For this reason the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.” John 19:10-11
And if you do think that all sins are equally sinful, how does it follow that no one is supposed to say out loud, “This action is sinful”? If all sins are equally sinful, if there is no societal responsibility to encourage virtue or discourage sin, then why do we have laws at all? If you’ve never been married, how can you say that a man should not kill his wife? Isn’t that judgemental of us, since we’ve never had to be married to her? Oh, but homosexuality is not murder…except that you said there is no difference in sins. Cheating against your brother at Old Maid will get you to Hell just as fast as slitting his throat while he sleeps!
I don’t advocate grabbing gays who want to marry by the lapels and telling them they’re sinners, but I also don’t think it judgmental to state the plain fact that the Church teaches that homosexual actions are intrinsically wrong. It is the truth.
