The toxicology report is out. . . . Does not excuse the officer leaving his knee on his neck for that long though. . . .

https://www.hennepin.us/-/media/hen...-safety/documents/Autopsy_2020-3700_Floyd.pdf

From the report:
A. Blood drug and novel psychoactive substances screens:
  1. Fentanyl 11 ng/mL
  2. Norfentanyl 5.6 ng/mL
  3. 4-ANPP 0.65 ng/mL
  4. Methamphetamine 19 ng/mL
  5. 11-Hydroxy Delta-9 THC 1.2 ng/mL;
    Delta-9 Carboxy THC 42 ng/mL; Delta-9 THC 2.9 ng/mL
  6. Cotinine positive
  7. Caffeine positive
    B. Blood volatiles: negative for ethanol, methanol,
    isopropanol, or acetone
    C. Urine drug screen: presumptive positive for cannabinoids,
    amphetamines, and fentanyl/metabolite
For the layman: fentanyl, meth and medical THC.

For all: I don’t appreciate the degree to which the moderator edited this post. One sentence I could understand, but the mod took everything out.

  1. Please don’t blame the victim.
  2. Neither Rodney King nor George Floyd really resisted his arrest after being subdued by the police.
  3. No one should die (or be killed!) while being taken into custody.
  4. Wondering what was in Mr. Floyd’s bloodstream is in extremely poor taste. It is much more appropriate to assess who did what than to blame a dead man’s chemicals intake.

It’s also just the facts.

Regardless, I’m wondering if we’ll see a spike in Covid cases following the protests. I’ve seen many wearing masks but who knows. We’ll have to wait and see.

That reminds me of Reagan wondering (hoping?) about an outbreak of food poisoning when Hearst donated food during the kidnapping saga. “It’s too bad we can’t have an epidemic of botulism.”

Definitely not hoping for it but I can see some getting schadenfreude from it.

Regardless of the toxicology and pathology reports, I’d love to know what healthy person could survive what happened to that poor man.

Am I the only one who initially suspected the dude was kneeling on his jugular or carotid and that had something to do with the death? I didn’t watch the video, the picture was enough.

Ridiculous. Rodney King threw the officers off when they initially approached. They tried to taze him twice to no avail. The batons were a last resort. Even then, King got up and tried to charge them again. Of course the news media cut out that part.

Ask any officer about that one. Rodney King was on PCP the night he was beaten by the police.
Really?

The officers later testified that they believed King was under the influence of [phencyclidine] although King’s toxicology tested negative for the drug.

Both sides agree that King was intoxicated. The officers said they believed that he also was under the influence of the drug PCP, which sometimes renders its users impervious to pain.
Tests on King for PCP were negative, and the prosecution has suggested that defendants concocted suspicions of PCP use to justify their actions.

I agree that the knee on the neck caused the death…certainly the drugs in the body worked against him.

Perhaps on a tangent issue we can accurately report when and when not COVID19 is the cause of death. If its not here (which I believe its not…don’t attack me), but there were a lot of cases of death attributed to COVID19 that were not as well.

I stand corrected on King’s PCP use. Still must be remembered that King was a big and muscular 26 year old man for whom it took a lot of force to subdue and both sides did agree on that much. The way King behaved that night, it was not a stretch for officers in the heat of the moment to believe they were dealing with someone high on PCP. It’s not like they had time for a timeout to test King in the middle of all that.

Anyway, what was in Floyd’s bloodstream has to be part of the record. Just as the cop’s previous history of complaints against him must also be part of the record. We’re not dealing with saints on either side here.

Floyd was not exactly small either. There is video of cops struggling with him after he was put into the police SUV. Then he ends up back on the street and that’s the video the entire world focuses on. By that time after several minutes of struggling with Floyd, it is easy to see how the cops’ mindset turned toward extreme indifference to his predicament. Doesn’t excuse the knee on his neck for too long. But the argument at trial will be on how much is Floyd responsible for. As it was for the officers who went on trial for beating King.

This is how the LAPD officers were found not guilty at the trial. Because the case was made that it could have taken that much force to subdue King. While it really looked bad on the Holliday video, it has to be remembered that Holliday did not capture the entire confrontation between King and the cops.

One last thought, I wonder about the fake $20 bill that started the whole thing off. Making counterfeit money good enough to pass takes some investment, hence there is never just one fake $20 out there; it’s like cockroaches, you see one, you know there are a lot more where that came from. So how did Floyd end up with one? As far as the store detecting the fake $20 goes, counterfeit detection devices are cheap, one can find them on Amazon easily, anyone can buy them. So it’s very easy for stores to have these devices if there is a need for them.

I don’t know if that’s all that important unless some other evidence comes up. Having worked in the restaurant industry counterfeits happened. I don’t think anyone giving one did it intentionally.

I agree it isn’t that important in the greater scheme of things. But everything from point a to point z about the entire confrontation will be pored over.

When Floyd was told the $20 bill he attempted to use was counterfeit and would not be accepted, he became sufficiently agitated that the cashier felt they had to call 911. Start with that. Too bad there is apparently no video from the store.

The toxicology report just adds to the story, but it still is no excuse for him being
ignored in the distress he was in which led to his death. If the officer would have gotten up 5 minutes earlier when Mr. Floyd said he couldn’t breathe and if they had given him some assistance or assessed his breathing, Mr. Floyd would no doubt
be alive today.

I found it strange the officer kept his hand in his pocket while kneeling on
Mr. Floyd’s neck. The whole scene was bizarre and the officer had to have seen he was being videotaped. The mugshots of all 4 cops were creepy.

It is interesting that he had tested positive for covid-19 in April. He was still positive?

I would have been sufficiently agitated if I got stuck with a bad $20 bill.

So how did Floyd end up with one?
It could happen to any of us, unless you’re going to test every bill you get in change. You get it from one place, you use it at another to buy something. The owner of the store even says Floyd may not have known.
There also doesn’t seem to be anything showing that the police officers even checked the bill to see if it really was counterfeit.

Especially now that the old bills are still in circulation.

I went to the doctor appointment last year and wanted to pay cash. I had a $100 bill. The bill reader thingy couldn’t confirm it was real. So I paid with credit card.

I didn’t get arrested, or questioned, nobody put my hands behind my back, handcuffed me, or threw me on the ground and then kneeled on my neck until 3 minutes after my heart stopped.

The worse thing that happened is that I was embarrassed.

No one questioned my past, and what was in my system.
