George Floyd had coronavirus, autopsy says

It could happen to any of us, unless you’re going to test every bill you get in change. You get it from one place, you use it at another to buy something. The owner of the store even says Floyd may not have known.
There also doesn’t seem to be anything showing that the police officers even checked the bill to see if it really was counterfeit.
For those of us who don’t deal with cash frequently, it’s rare. But it is a hazard of cash based businesses in neighborhoods like the one Floyd died in. Many of us could afford to laugh off a fake $20. But for someone on a tight budget, that isn’t a good thing. Could be a crisis, even.

First, you didn’t get agitated over it, you were just embarrassed and you could afford to pay with a credit card. For Floyd, that might have been the last $20 in his wallet that morning plus he was likely under the influence of drugs. If he had been like you and said, sorry about that and offered a different $20 bill, that would have been the end of it. But he got agitated to the point where the store called 911. That level of agitation is something you or I would never have done.

Second, I’ve been overseas a few times over the years. Over a decade ago, I found out that the 1996 and earlier series of $100 bills were refused by money changers because it was becoming too easy to counterfeit them. I had a few of those that were refused. Fortunately I was able to redeposit them on my return. After that, every time I went overseas again, I made it a point to have later issued $100 bills in order to avoid that.

How agitated could he have really become though? He was on fentanyl. Isn’t that an opioid?

THC stays in the system too.

The point being that he did become agitated enough that the store people felt they had to call 911. We can debate on the level and effects of the drugs in his system all day long, but actions are actions and Floyd’s actions apparently precipitated the 911 call.

I haven’t seen any moment by moment description of what went down in that store to lead to the 911 call. But I’m sure it will all come out if it hasn’t yet already.

It is irrelevant by and large, as is wondering who the rioters who have been arrested voted for in 2016, as asked in another thread.

Ridiculous. Rodney King threw the officers off when they initially approached. They tried to taze him twice to no avail. The batons were a last resort. Even then, King got up and tried to charge them again. Of course the news media cut out that part.
That’s how the officers won at trial, stating what was not on the tape. But what was on the tape was a man subdued and the police playing catch up. That’s wrong. King was down holding his head and never got up while the cops used him as a punching bag.

I doubt they will be chastised or ticketed the way certain Protestant religious groups were for holding services (nor do I want them to be).

But a little consistency would be nice, or an admission that virus avoidance can in fact take a backseat to other aspects of our life.

No one is going to actually stand up and tell them they should not have a large funeral. Much easier to tell me we can’t have more than 10 people in a Church that seats 500 for my youngest son’s baptism. They know I won’t go on CNN and complain.

George Floyd had coronavirus, autopsy says.
Probably why he couldn’t breathe
He had heart disease.
The drugs in his system cause users to behave erratically and out of control.
We should learn more about the scuffle officers had with him in the police car before taking him out and putting him to the ground. He was in the car and ready to ‘go’. There must have been a reason why they moved him back out of the car and to the ground. There is much we don’t know.

And why would that possibly negate an officer with his knee over his through for over 8 and a half minutes, and a couple of minutes after being non-responsive?

It’s almost like the argument that all those old people who contracted the virus were going to die anyway because of advanced age and pre-existing conditions.

Humans, unlike jungle predators, are not given a moral pass for picking off the marginalized.

There were 13 seconds of videotape that the news media deliberately kept from us. We never knew about those 13 seconds until they were shown at the trial. Even today the media still gaslights us about this. From an article talking about Floyd and comparing to Rodney King (emphasis mine):
The other reason some of us are waiting for all the facts can be summed up with two words: Rodney King.

That arrest looked pretty bad, too. The jury forewoman on the first trial said that when she saw the King video on television, “I was revulsed. … I thought they were hitting that poor man too hard and too long.”

But at the trial a year later, she got to see the 13 seconds of video that had been deliberately edited out by the media: the 6-foot-4, 240-pound King rising like a phoenix and charging at one of the officers.

The video that played on an endless loop on TV showed only the tail end of the encounter, when officers were whacking King with their batons.

In fact, however, the beating was the officers’ last resort for subduing King, who’d just led them on a high-speed car chase, at times reaching speeds of up to 115 mph, drawing several police cars and a police helicopter.

Once stopped, King’s two (black) passengers exited the car and got on the ground, as instructed. They went home without a scratch that night.

But King leapt out and began dancing and babbling, crouching, kneeling, laughing and waving to the police helicopter overhead. Both the officers and King’s passengers believed he was high on angel dust.
Not only the jurors, but nearly everyone who saw the first trial ended up supporting the acquittal, including Roger Parloff, a liberal legal reporter who sat through most of the trial for the American Lawyer, and Lou Cannon, who covered it for the Washington Post . The renowned (black) economist Walter Williams was shocked by “the news media’s dereliction and deception” in their editing of the tape.
So the big question and my big curiosity is: is there more video of what happened inside the store, video of what happened on Floyd’s way out of the store, etc.? Is there more to this than the media is reporting. Because they didn’t report every last thing with King either.

No, they didn’t report every last thing with King, not the high speed chase etc. With Floyd, however, short of him killing a group of nuns in the store I can’t think of anything to justify kneeling on a man’s neck for 8 minutes.
