I figured this out 26 years ago. It wasn’t that I left the GOP, it was that the GOP left me…seems many more are feeling that way today.
I feel the same about the Democrat party and for longer than that.

And you think you are going to get any help for the unborn from HC?
Nope. She’ll maintain the status quo like the good little elite that she is. But Trump will not only NOT change anything when it comes to abortion, (his last known position was that it’s the law and shouldn’t change) he will weaken any credibility the Pro-Life movement still has and will set us back decades.

I’m thinking long term, beyond Supreme Court nominations, which so far have gotten us nowhere. A principled front from the minority against a clear ideological enemy like Clinton is a FAR superior position than forfeiting our moral legitimacy by cozying up to someone who shares none of our moral convictions. That we have come to the point where a thrice married, unrepentant adulterer, who praises Planned Parenthood and supports denying First Amendment rights to an entire religion, is enthusiastically supported by Christians is disturbing to me beyond words. We’re putting unnecessary stumbling blocks up in front of non-Christians and confirming to them all the worst stereotypes of Christianity. :sad_yes:

And that’s besides all the other evils Trump has promised to do once in office that he actually has a real chance of carrying out. A president has no authority to change the law on abortion, he does have authority to affect foreign policy. And I can not in clear conscience support someone who has said he is willing to directly target innocents. Not to mention the fear-mongering tactics he uses, which honestly reminds me of certain dictators in the past. I pray everyday I’m wrong, but his ignorance of government and the constitution is frightening to me.

So that’s where I’m coming from. If anyone here supports Trump, I may disagree, but as long as you have fully weighed the pros and cons I can respect your decision. But I also have to follow my conscience and do what I believe will actually limit abortion. And that means not voting for Trump.

Those hoping endlessly that USSC nominations will end abortion don’t really know how it works; existing rulings aren’t just overturned. Abortion became legal under a Republican president, and there’s no reason to believe that another Republican will change the equation.

The fact there was a Republican in office when Roe v Wade was decided is irrelevant. What was relevant was the make up of the court at that time, which did have 7 Republican appointees (6 of which voted to make murder of the unborn a constitutional right) and 2 Republican appointees (1 of which voted to make murder of the unborn a constitutional right).

Since the ruling, every Democrat running for national office vowed to keep the right to murder the unborn constitutional - a litmus test for justices for being on the court. They have followed through in their philosophy to appoint pro-abortion justices to the USSC.

Republicans, for their part, have always said Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided and have had mixed results some good and others bad when it came to judicial appointments. It’s this inconsistent appointments that have buried the Republicans. Now with Trump, I’m deeply concerned that Roe v. Wade will never be overturned. I actually think that a pro-life justice will replace Scalia if Trump wins. But that would still leave us at least one justice short of overturning Roe v Wade. My concern is in whether he can get two pro-lifers appointed. Yet I know with virtual certainty that Clinton will appoint pro-abortion justices.

The pro-life justices are in a minority right now 3 pro-life to 5 anti-life.

Interesting argument why Trump will set back the pro-life movement more than Clinton.

I am concerned that George W. Bush might have been the last Republican President as well. Liberalism is very strong in America. Conservatism has been dealt some major blows since Bush left office. The powers that be want liberalism in America. It will be an upset if Trump wins this year. I have some hope that it will happen though.
👍

I’m still hearing the negative things said about DT the same ones the liberal media touted during the primary… It seems like people really did not listen or try to understand where he is coming from… he surely isn’t a smooth politician… but he has ideas that are different from the last 7 years. Let’s admit it. We voted for BO twice and we wanted him to succeed. We thought it was time for a black president. But it seems that he isn’t honest. I’m serious. Lois Learner in the IRS… nothing going on over there, he said… he knew HRC had an illegal private server. Is he the President or what??? He let her treat national records in a careless manner. And he speaks out of both sides of his mouth as far as ISIS is concerned… or more than that lies about it being a real problem… BO didn’t have much experience on the National Level and we gave him two terms. Now people say DT doesn’t have experience… on the National Level… if it wasn’t needed for the last two terms, why do we need all that experience anyway. Maybe all we need is some NEW ideas. and a chance…
Some will say it’s time to give a woman a chance. I have no problem with that if we can find a honest woman… Not just ANY woman for WOMAN’s sake… how bout OPRAH???

I don’t see the demise of the Republican Party. Even if Trump wins or loses. For the party to fracture completely you need a really divisive set of issues; and I don’t see them.
Only time will tell I guess.

Trump saved the Republican Party. If cruz or Jeb was the nominee, hillary would be our next president. Illegal immigration and entitlement programs will continue to grow unfettered, the beneficiaries of which will mostly vote democrat. The demographic of the country will change to an extent where no republican president may be elected again. Just my two cents.

My two cents is that trump has successfully divided and destroyed the gop as well knew it. To some, that’s great, but to many, Jeb, Romney, etc, it’s one step forward, two steps back. Trumps plan to deport all illegals and build a wall is unfeasible and pretty much impossible, not to mention cruel in my opinion.

Only citizens can vote. How do you figure Democrats will get the illegal immigrant vote?

I support Trump, but deporting ALL illegals won’t happen. Fact is the labor is needed. I think he’ll enforce more so the expired VISAs and crack down on sanctuary cities.

Also, if the other ticket wins, would not be too surprised to see them quietly start building a wall.

As far as Jeb and Romney go, the biggest problem the GOP is turning out the base. Romney didn’t do much at all to reach out to evangelicals, and Jeb is a Bush, and the last Bush sat around for the better part of the Second Term and got pounded in the media and the Administration didn’t defend itself.

Independents have no reason to vote Democratic, and Barack Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi can be blamed for that. Independents have been voting GOP ever since 2009.

By way of amnesty. In fact Hillary’s VP already promises amnesty within 100 days of inauguration.

Believe me, a lot of people vote who aren’t supposed to. Some folks in the DNC machine see to that. There may have even been a wayward GOP supporter or two who’s done it.

Some states have liberal laws for this sort of thing or don’t even enforce them.

The left currently goes along with it for now because it’s seen as more of a net benefit to their liberal ideals.

Oh yes! The guy who tries to come across as the “please straight working class white men don’t leave the Democratic Party, pretty please! I’m here to help, honest, cause I look just like you!”.

Donald Trump, is getting more support from Hispanics, than John McCain or Mitt Romney got: thehill.com/latino/287086-poll-trumps-hispanic-support-on-par-with-romney-2012

Trump would not need to get 40% of he Hispanic vote to win, he could win potentially with less than 20% overall minority votes for him if the White turnout increases. Check this out: forums.catholic-questions.org/showpost.php?p=14056148&postcount=913

The Republicans haven’t done a good enough overall job in reaching out to Hispanics and other minorities and providing a message which resonates and brings people into the Republican Party. The Republican Party needs to do a better job.
Apparently this year they might also have to a better job with white voters especially with those with college degrees.

Just last month, Trump was winning white voters by an average of 17 percentage points, matching exactly Romney’s margin from four years ago. That’s not good enough, especially considering that the 2016 electorate will probably be more diverse than 2012’s.

Trump was doing better than Romney among white voters without a college degree. But Trump was also doing considerably worse than Romney among white voters with a college degree.
