He had his life ruined for shooting an unarmed teenager!
An unarmed teenager that was beating him bloody.
Given his injuries, it is appropriate that he believed his life in danger and to use whatever force was necessary to insure his safety.

“We’ve had some break-ins in my neighborhood, and there’s a real suspicious guy …”
Again: what were the suspicions?

Thank you for the eyewitness accounts. They do not contradict the the statement of @MamaJewel. They do, however, contradict some of the stories about the incident posted here by others.

Zimmerman was up to no good and shot an unarmed minor who was protecting himself from an armed adult.
The only eyewitness to the end of the confrontation stated that Martin was on top of Zimmerman and punching him, while Zimmerman was yelling for help.
Being on top and punching while the person under you screams for help is not self defense.

Why not? If you think it OK to shoot someone in self-defense, why not subdue someone after you with your fists?

One man’s murder is another man’s self-defense from having his skull cracked open. Again, people talk in such black and white terms and seem to refuse to acknowledge that things could have been done differently by all parties. The fact that Zimmerman was beaten doesn’t mean he couldn’t have in hindsight done things differently, and the fact that Martin was killed doesn’t mean he couldn’t have done things differently. Their respoinsibility is not wipoed out because of outcome.

If folks want to argue that abortion isn’t murder because the law says so, they clearly Zimmerman didn’t murder anyone because the law said so.

As to the merits of the lawsuit, few posting have any idea whether they are legitimate, since they have likely not been intimately connected to Martin’s mother’s life or Zimmerman’s life since this happened, and as such, can offer no real insight, IMO.

Suspicious? What were the suspicions?
An issue I’ve had with how that word has often been used is that it is usually an indicator of the feelings of the observer and not of any wrong doing of the observed. Yet, a person to which the label is applied can find themselves being treated poorly and distrusted because someone used the label on them. I can be used as a sort of character attack.

You’re right. Zimmerman would have been better of hanging on for a few more blows until the skull was actually open. Once again, you play gotcha games in a quest for keyboard triumph, which make everyone else roll their eyes and avoid discussions with you. Nice job.

I remember at the time thinking that he had grounds to sue the networks for editing out portions of the 911 call to make him appear racist.
Also noted a number of false witnesses and doctored photos.

It was ugly. It was a media circus.
And even the president jumped in without knowing all the facts.

I feel bad for all involved.

Perhaps pictures should be posted as well should some doubt that Zimmerman was badly injured.

I am gals that the discussion has shifted to actual reality. He had a bloddy and fractured nose and two lacerations on the back of his head acccording to medical report of his doctor. The pictures are consistent with that.

Zimmerman had suspicious that no one has dared clarify.
He brought gun to a fist fight and used lethal force to defend himself in a fight that he instigated.
Why the excuses - that even include misrepresentation of the facts of the case - for his behavior?

Becuase legally, he did nothing wrong? It is really that simple. We can all argue about how each side could have behaved differently, but that has little to do with the legalities at play. I wish Zimmerman had ignored Martin, and wish Martin had ignored Zimmerman. But the law only cares about whether they legally had to ignore one another.

Yes, which is why no one is arguing they serve jail time or face murder charges as the law currently exsists. I do recall calls for that sort of thing with Zimmerman, though it has been years. Why would anyone think Zimmerman deserved punishment, if the law was on his side, any more than wanting to punish women who abort when the law is on their side?

Hence, why so many on the pro-life side work to change both existing laws and promote a change in people’s hearts.

But people are not the least bit shy about calling out EVIL.
Even using that term to describe diverse group of people whose cooperation in the sin is so remote that the sinfulness is doubtful.
Are people supporting supporting the lawfulness of the act in this case, also willing call out the EVIL of the act and the support of the law that makes it lawful?

I suspect because in the grand scheme of things, very few see Zimmerman’s actions as evil, or even remotely close to the decision to legally kill your baby. They are so far apart as to not be worth comparing, for most. Zimmerman didn’t pull out his gun and start firing at Martin’s back. He defended himself from an attack. You can argue he had a hand in instigating the confrontation, but in the meoment he was beiung pummeled, that mattered little. It was defend yourself, or risk death, from his perspective.

I suspect that that is true. And that, not the lawfulness, is the point.

Zimmerman, in his expressed passion, choose to ignore advice to stand clear, but instead instigated a confrontation. Finding himself on the losing end of a fistfight, he pulled a gun and used lethal force.
He took a human life.

Martin was defending himself from an armed man that was suspiciously following him in his father’s neighborhood. I guess it is a shame that Martin didn’t exercise his 2nd Amendment rights instead of defending himself like a man.

And don’t forget that Zimmerman is some kind of “hero” to a certain segment of society.

He has his supporters.
