The problem is, of course, that while this is perfectly moral, you know the secular media are going to spin this into their attempt to get us to bow to their Secular Sacrament of Free Love.
It is not fact-checking to say, “I recently read…” I recently read that Tony Romo broke his legs, that impeachment hearing against President Obama are underway, and that there is an Angolan witch spider that is half as big as a house.Just for fact checking. I read recently that…
No. Since you missed it, I will be direct. You made a very accusatory statement against the Catholic Church with no evidence to back it up. This type of anticatholic is hardly unique here, but at least normally their is an attempt at providing some facts.Must be another way of saying you don’t know the answer.
Thank you for clarifying. You seem a little hyperactive. I put the statement up for fact checking because I don’t know if it’s true or not. I read it on a site for historical photographs covering the end of the war in Germany. It was just a statement without attribution. With systematic rape on such a massive scale it is at least possible that the Church might have decided to look the other way. Nothing anti-Catholic in trying to find out what really happened.
of the morning after pill for rape victims and the subsequent approval of their decision by the head of the Vatican department dealing with pro-life issues has spread around the Catholic world, with some voicing incredulity and alarm.News of the German Bishops’ conditional approval
Yes, I’m so appalled I’m speechless. This whole thing is driving me nuts. I’ve been trawling through the theology and I just cannot square what the bishops are saying here. Their whole case, theologically speaking, seems to rest on the distinction between deliberate abortion and unintended consequence. I might accept that in, say, the case of an ectopic pregnancy, but what is happening here is a legalistic fig-leaf so thin it’s transparent. Even the Jesuits would baulk at this. They’re saying, in essence, that because it is impossible to know within so short a space of time as rape victims normally present whether or not the woman is pregnant, we’ll go through the motions of checking if she actually is pregnant, which test will, of course, show no evidence of conception (how could it, so soon after the event?), and on that basis we’ll assume she isn’t pregnant and administer the morning after pill. Since we can’t know for sure she is pregnant, we’ll let God work it out.
This whole thing has the mark of treating with “the real world” stamped all over it, the Protestant philosophy of trimming and tacking with the prevailing breeze, whatever that breeze might be. That’s not what the Catholic Church is supposed to be about. We’re supposed to be the last hold-outs, the ones who die with their boots on in a valiant last stand around a tattered papal flag. It’s not supposed to matter what “the real world” thinks of us, it’s only supposed to matter that we keep the faith, and I cannot understand how we’re doing that here.
Sounds to me like their logic is impecable. I liked the way you explained it.If you don’t know and can’t know then there seems no reason not to proceed.Yes, I’m so appalled I’m speechless.
Fooling? No one is attempting deception.Who do they think they are fooling?![]()
Days after the German bishops approved the use of the morning-after pill in cases of rape, the Swiss bishops have followed their lead.
A spokesman for the Swiss bishops, Walter Müller, told the Swiss News Agency that the drug may be used in cases of rape, but only when it will have a contraceptive effect, and not when it “induces an abortion.”
.“The medicine should not contribute in any way to the end of a human life, which begins with fertilization and must be protected,” he said
They are telling us that it’s not forbidden in the case of rape. You are confused simply because you choose to hold on to what you believe rather than to listen to the bishops.Swiss bishops approve morning-after pill in cases of rape

I am confused once again, contraceptive effect? But contraception is forbidden in Catholic teaching
There does not seem to be agreement on this issue and that is worrying. While the German and Swiss Bishops agree, Catholic Medical association did not accept the American directive 36 to give rape victims the morning after pill; former president of the Pontifical Academy for life was against the morning after pill being given for rape victims; Dr Juistin Aznar has questioned the claim from the German bishops about the morning after pill acting as a contraceptive
Bishop Elio Sgreccia, former president of the pontifical academy of life said morning after pill should not be given to rape victims. Given the lack of agreement, and the fact that this has only been adopted by the German, Swiss and US Bishops but not universally, it is not suprising I am confusedThey are telling us that it’s not forbidden in the case of rape. You may have a point. A majority of moral theologians, assembled by the Pope himself, approved the birth control pill back in the 60’s before Paul VI overruled them.Let us wait for Rome to decide, which, naturally, will mean when the new Pope is elected. The usual reliable moral-theological sources seem to side with the German bishops, but even Tomas Sanchez was overruled by Rome.
Well, I hope eventually that the Vatican would step in and issue a universal guidance.Bishop Elio Sgreccia, former president of the pontifical academy of life said morning after pill should not be given to rape victims.
