The problem is, of course, that while this is perfectly moral, you know the secular media are going to spin this into their attempt to get us to bow to their Secular Sacrament of Free Love.
 
I grew up in the Catholic Church in the 1950’s, and I don’t really see anything new here. I remember very well years ago when I was probably in my teens, I was reading a question and answer column in a Catholic magazine. The question was, what should a woman do if she is raped?

The answer was that she should get herself to a doctor right away. The doctor should examine her and give her a thorough internal cleaning to remove all traces of the sperm. Of course, they didn’t have the morning after pill then. The sperm was being removed to reduce the chances that it would ever meet the egg.

Now, they are just going a step further to make sure that the egg will not meet the sperm. This is not a new teaching. The sperm of a rapist has no business being inside a woman. She has every right to get rid of it.
 
Just for fact checking. I read recently that the German Catholic Church temporarily suspended it’s objection to abortion just after the war in 1945-46 when Russian troops raped around 2 million German women.

It is not fact-checking to say, “I recently read…” I recently read that Tony Romo broke his legs, that impeachment hearing against President Obama are underway, and that there is an Angolan witch spider that is half as big as a house.

No. Since you missed it, I will be direct. You made a very accusatory statement against the Catholic Church with no evidence to back it up. This type of anticatholic is hardly unique here, but at least normally their is an attempt at providing some facts.

It is not “the answer” I do not know. It is the veracity of your statement that I cannot verify. If you have facts, then produce the document in which the Catholic Church allowed abortion. If not, please do not slander anyone.
 
You seem a little hyperactive. I put the statement up for fact checking because I don’t know if it’s true or not. I read it on a site for historical photographs covering the end of the war in Germany. It was just a statement without attribution. With systematic rape on such a massive scale it is at least possible that the Church might have decided to look the other way. Nothing anti-Catholic in trying to find out what really happened.

Understand how it would be if someone sent me an email, “I read somewhere that your mother was turning tricks downtown. Is this true?” Imagine this was done out of the blue with zero reasoning or evidence.

We should be careful never to throw out serious allegations against someone’s loved ones without both a good reason, and good evidence, even if it is worded like a question.

One of those voicing concern is Spanish Bishop Juan Antonio Martínez Camino, secretary for the Spanish Bishops’ Conference, who has publicly questioned the German Bishops Conference’s statement.

In their press release, the German bishops specified that they had approved the pills, but only if they acted solely in a contraceptive rather than abortive manner. But Bishop Antonio said that such a pill does not exist.

“If there is a pill that prevents conception in cases of rape, then it is licit to prevent it,” he told El Mundo. He added, however, "We have no knowledge of a morning-after pill without abortifacient effects … If it did exist, we would be sure to know it.”

The bishop concluded, “all morning-after pills have this possible abortive effect. Therefore, its use is illicit. If it does exist in Germany, we are not aware of it. It is not known to us that this technical possibility exists."

A leading Catholic doctor in Spain backed the point, telling Catholic News Agency he would write the German bishops to correct their mistaken views on the science around the morning after pill. “I’m going to write a long letter to the German Bishops’ Conference to give them some scientific light about this topic,” Doctor Justo Aznar told CNA.

Dr. Justo, director for life sciences at the Catholic University of Valencia said he believes the German Bishops’ action is based on “a small technical ignorance.”

“I would say that approximately in half of the cases it acts as a contraceptive and the other half it has an anti-implantation effect,” he added. “So I estimate that there is no way a pill that can end the life of many human beings can be used after rape and it is ethically unjustified.”

That’s not what the Catholic Church is supposed to be about. We’re supposed to be the last hold-outs, the ones who die with their boots on in a valiant last stand around a tattered papal flag. It’s not supposed to matter what “the real world” thinks of us, it’s only supposed to matter that we keep the faith, and I cannot understand how we’re doing that here.

Sounds to me like their logic is impecable. I liked the way you explained it.If you don’t know and can’t know then there seems no reason not to proceed.
 
There is a difference between what the German bishops said and what the US bishops said. Some of you are mixing things up.
 
Let us wait for Rome to decide, which, naturally, will mean when the new Pope is elected. The usual reliable moral-theological sources seem to side with the German bishops, but even Tomas Sanchez was overruled by Rome.

I am confused once again, contraceptive effect? But contraception is forbidden in Catholic teaching

There does not seem to be agreement on this issue and that is worrying. While the German and Swiss Bishops agree, Catholic Medical association did not accept the American directive 36 to give rape victims the morning after pill; former president of the Pontifical Academy for life was against the morning after pill being given for rape victims; Dr Juistin Aznar has questioned the claim from the German bishops about the morning after pill acting as a contraceptive

They are telling us that it’s not forbidden in the case of rape. You are confused simply because you choose to hold on to what you believe rather than to listen to the bishops.

Bishop Elio Sgreccia, former president of the pontifical academy of life said morning after pill should not be given to rape victims. Given the lack of agreement, and the fact that this has only been adopted by the German, Swiss and US Bishops but not universally, it is not suprising I am confused

You may have a point. A majority of moral theologians, assembled by the Pope himself, approved the birth control pill back in the 60’s before Paul VI overruled them.

OTOH, Benedict XVI was reported to have approved condoms against AIDS but a clarification later quelled that report.

Well, I hope eventually that the Vatican would step in and issue a universal guidance.

But when I read some of the comments on FB and on LifeNews, I wonder whether some people would agree with the Vatican if she presents something different from what they believe. 🤷
