The poster said the apparition of the Blessed Mother happened in 1973 - that was 3 decades before the clergy sex abuse crisis. I can’t imagine the clergy doing anything worse than that.
So you don’t think Clergy leading people to hell is a bad thing… Got it!
That is a total non sequitur. Not sure why you would say something like that.
You stated that the worst evil clergy could do is what some very nasty homosexual men did to some unfortunate children. While I believe this to be a very evil thing indeed… It pails in comparison to leading ones congration into believing that it is ok to live in sin. Both his soul and those of the laity are in jeopardy!
I wouldn’t characterize the clergy sex abuse crisis in that way, but I do think it fits the warning pretty well.

The pastoral judgements of the clergy towards particular members of their flock is not really our business. The only sins I should worry about are my own. However, I see no evil in mercy.

If you read the private revelation it does not sound like the clergy abuse scandal at all. We are starting to see more and more confusion in the church. Bishops against Bishop Priest against priest. Are you really ok with what Cardinal Marx is propossing? Do you believe that Homosexual acts are intrinsically evil?
I think the confusion is overrated. Cardinal Marx isn’t blessing the acts, but the relationship. He is also not suggesting the relationship is a marriage.

I and most people who have studied the abuse crisis would pretty much disagree with your assessment. I also don’t think the scandal fits the reveleation at all. Just by reading it you can see it does not fit. but whatever!

For me I believe your view of scandal is selfish and worrisome. True Mercy or Love does not allow your fellow man to wallow in his sin by pretending that is good and blessing it. We are called to help people reject their sin. One of the acts of mercy is doing just that.

By blessing the relationship he is indeed blessing the acts to which they engage in as a couple. To think otherwise is Naive.

By only blessing the relationship the Cardinal would have to explain to the couple and to everyone who witnesses the blessing of what he is really doing. So in other words with out clairfication. This act would be “Scandalous” He would need to explain to the couple and everyone how witnesses this that:

“what we are doing is only blessing the relationship of this couple and not the actual acts that this couple and their friends will be doing latter” I’m sure that would go over well. It would actually cause more harm to the couples relationship with the church.

I don’t pretend to be an expert on interpreting private revelations, so my understanding of the Blessed Mothers words is my opinion only. However, it seems to me that the Cardinal is acting pastorally from a place of mercy. He is making the point that there is genuine goodness in some same sex relationships that has nothing to do with the sex act, and this goodness should be recognized & blessed. I think this is true.

Maybe blessed in the general sense but certainly not blessed before a congregation in the church. Most certainly not at mass or any other service. This would indeed cause scandal to many people and would have a far reaching consequences.

Again if this was blessed in the general sense (Neutral informal setting) then a comment would have to acompany what is happening to avoid scandal.

Once again it is not pastoral or merciful to create scandal and encourage any one to continue sinning. I have my own proclivities to a certain egregious sin which at one time I thought was nothing bad. please help people out of their sin rather than encourage them to continue living in it.

Everything you said sounds perfectly reasonable to me. The Cardinal was strictly speaking of long term, committed relationships. After so much time together, the sex act may not even still be part of it. It certainly would not be if one partner were terminally ill and the other was selflessly caring for him.

Amazing how far some Catholics will go to defend every possible word of a prelate, even at the expense of perennial Catholic teaching.

Before this pontificate, no cardinal would dare suggest blessing homosexual unions.

I agree, we have both a right and a responsibility to call a spade a spade, this is wrong and there’s really no excusing it. The issue now is why haven’t higher authorities rebuked him yet.

I can tell you why. German Catholics paid 6.15 billion € = 7.38 billion USD in terms of church taxes in 2016.
Therefore, Rome does not want to risk arguments as long as the money is flowing. Simple as that.

Catholic News Agency has posted an update:
The spokesman of Cardinal Marx at the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising has contacted CNA with a request for correction of our translation of the interview in question, expressing concern that CNA's translation constitutes a false reference and does not properly reflect the position of Cardinal Marx.
CNA has agreed to publish the relevant passage from the translation that the office of Cardinal Marx has provided as part of this correction. It reads as follows:

Karin Wendlinger: So you really can imagine that there might be a way to bless homosexual couples in the Catholic Church?

Cardinal Marx: There are no general solutions and I think that would not be right, because we are talking about pastoral care for individual cases, and that applies to other areas as well, which we cannot regulate, where we have no sets of rules.
